Woman escapes with only minor injuries after Bezza lodges under timber truck in Sibu crash

SIBU, May 10 — A woman was fortunate to escape with minor injuries after the car she was driving crashed into a timber lorry at a junction near Rumah (Rh) Jamban, Nanga Lebai, along Jalan Selangau-Sibu on Friday night.
Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Chief Andy Alie said the Selangau fire station received an emergency call regarding the road accident at 8.36pm.
'A Perodua Bezza had collided with a timber lorry and ended up lodged under the trailer carrying logs.
'There was one victim, a woman aged 46, who was found conscious and only sustained minor injuries,' he said in a statement today.
Firemen promptly carried out a size-up and confirmed that the victim was not trapped inside the vehicle.
'She was safely extricated using a stretcher and handed over to paramedics for further medical attention at the Selangau Health Clinic,' Andy said.
Firefighters also flushed the area to clear debris and ensure the road was safe for public use.
The operation, which involved five firefighters and a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle from the Selangau station, concluded at 10.10pm.
Personnel from the police and the Ministry of Health were also present at the scene to assist. — The Borneo Post

PETALING JAYA : Three people, including a young child, were reported to have died in a boating accident in the waters near Tanjung Harapan, in Klang, Selangor, yesterday. According to an official from the Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the victims were aged three to 50. Selangor MMEA director Abdul Muhaimin Salleh said in the 5pm incident, the boat carrying six passengers was believed to have lost control before it capsized. He added that a fishing vessel came to the rescue of the people on board but its crew only managed to save one person, with two more passengers still missing as of this morning. Muhaimin said the search for the two missing passengers is ongoing with fire and rescue personnel conducting diving operations, Bernama reported. He said the missing victims were identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama, and that the three-year-old boy who died was their son, Darren. 'The other deceased victims were Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, a friend of the couple,' he said in a statement here today. 'The sole survivor is Alvin Chang, 17.' A video of the capsized boat being towed to the shore has since been widely circulated on social media.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Traffic on all major highways nationwide on the morning of the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration is reported to be smooth-flowing and under control, despite a slight increase in the number of vehicles at the Gombak Toll Plaza of the KL-Karak Expressway. A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said traffic is smooth flowing on the North-South Expressway (PLUS), the East Coast Highway (LPT) 1 and 2 as well as all toll roads around the Klang Valley. He added that 30 smart lanes have been activated along the PLUS Highway today to maintain smooth traffic flow. The public can get the latest traffic updates via the toll-free PLUSLine at 1-800-88-0000, the X account @plustrafik or the LLM line at 1-800-88-7752 and the X account @llmtrafik.
