Ashir Shahid searched 'charge for hit and run human' before his arrest

Ashir Shahid, now 20, was barreling through Bamber Bridge village, near Preston, in his Toyota Prius at speeds of up to 71mph in the 30mph zone.
He struck the five-months pregnant care home worker and she was "thrown into the air", Preston Crown Court heard.
Renju has been walking with colleagues on her way to work when the tragedy unfolded at around 7.50pm.
Paramedics rushed her to hospital with head and spinal injuries.
Prosecutor Emma Keogh told the court: "It also became apparent that the life of her unborn child was in severe jeopardy.
"An emergency C-section had to be carried out in an attempt to save the unborn child's life.
"The placenta had ruptured and Mrs Joseph had bled quite heavily.
"Her child was born that evening but sadly he only survived for a few hours before passing away.
"This was her very first pregnancy with her husband who she married about five years earlier. This was a planned pregnancy and very much wanted."
Renju spent several weeks in intensive care and had to relearn how to walk after a three month hospital stay.
The court heard another motorist had witnessed the Prius driver accelerating around 15 metres before the crossing.
They then swerved before hitting the 31-year-old and narrowly missing fellow pedestrians.
The witness claimed Renju was "thrown into the air for quite some distance".
Ms Keogh told the court: "It was very clear from footage in both the lead-up and the aftermath that the Toyota was driven at speed.
"It was clear that throughout the journey the driving by Ashir Shahid left a lot to be desired."
Video evidence from a front seat passenger in Shahid's car revealed the pair had been joking around before the crash while driving at high speed.
The passenger was also seen dangling his feet out of the window while the driver periodically let go of the steering wheel.
Investigations then revealed the defendant had searched "charge for hit and run human" just 11 seconds after the horror.
He and another man were also seen at Frankie's Chicken Shop, laughing about the crash.
One of them was overheard saying: "I'm basically with a murderer."
After spotting CCTV he told a staff member behind the counter: "If anyone asks for this video, don't give it them. This guy is a criminal."
While the men were still in the chicken shop, a flat bed truck picked up the Prius after it was abandoned in a nearby village.
Police later discovered it had been transported to Greater Manchester.
One of the men checked his phone in the hours after the incident and said: "That's the woman. She's in hospital."
Meanwhile a clip from Shahid's snapchat showed him singing along to the Shaggy song It Wasn't Me and laughing.
Officers detained Shahid at a property in Kirkham after he hid at a friends house until October 2.
Shahid, of Windsor Road, Walton le Dale, Preston, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Renju's baby Olive by dangerous driving.
He also admitted causing serious injury to Renju by dangerous driving.
Shahid will be sentenced on Friday alongside a 17-year-old male who pleaded guilty to assisting an offender.

Hundreds of protesters take to streets near migrant hotel after ‘asylum seeker guest' arrested on suspicion of assault

The incident occurred in the Isle of Dogs on Wednesday night before he was detained by nearby members of the public. He was arrested by police on suspicion of common assault and he remains in custody. MailOnline reported that the man was a migrant staying in a Canary Wharf hotel. He reportedly entered the woman's house after being told to "go back to the hotel" where anti-migrant protestors were gathered. The 22-year-old woman whose flat he entered was arrested on Wednesday evening. Channay Augustus has since been charged with a number of offences including possession of an offensive weapon, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault and possession of cannabis. The affray and common assault charge relate to an incident at the Britannia Hotel in Marsh Wall which occurred on Wednesday evening. It concerned an alleged attack on a security guard at the hotel. She is due to appear in court later this morning. The Britannia Hotel has been the subject of recent protests after it was used for migrants arriving into Britain. It was closed to paying customers and converted into taxpayer-funded 'surge' accommodation for illegal arrivals in the UK. Earlier this week a coach load of asylum seekers were seen running into the four-star establishment under the cover of darkness. The Sun previously reported how mattresses, drinks and bed frames were shipped into hotel, which branded itself as the 'perfect' place for tourists to spend a weekend. 9 A migrant in his 20s was arrested for common assault after entering a woman's flat on Friday in the Isle of Dogs Credit: George Cracknell Wright 9 The Britannia Hotel has been the subject of recent protests Credit: George Cracknell Wright 9 Huge banners have been displayed reading: 'We're not far right but we're not far wrong... stop the boats' Credit: George Cracknell Wright The 500-room hotel – said to have 'superb views over London' – was designated for asylum seekers in a move that has angered anti-migrant protesters who staged peaceful demonstrations outside. Earlier this month, the first arrivals saw about 40 male asylum seekers sent to the hotel by coach, with most dressed in grey tracksuits. The first arrivals were taken in at around 1.40am to be given rooms. They were helped by masked security guards working as private contractors for the Home Office. The use of the flash financial district hotel, one of around 210 hotels in use for asylum housing, was previously branded as farcical and an 'insult' to taxpayers. When open to the public, a standard room had cost as much as £425 a night – though it will cost the Home Office £81 a night. Amenities include a games room with a pool table and gym, though it is unclear if migrants will be allowed to use them. An indoor pool and sauna are thought to have been shut down. A Tower Hamlets Council spokesman told The Sun previously: 'We are aware of the Government's decision to use the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf to provide temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. 'It is important that the Government ensures that there is a full package of support for those staying at the hotel. We are working with the Home Office and partners to make sure that all necessary safety and safeguarding arrangements are in place." The Home Office previously said: 'We inherited a broken asylum system from the Tories with costs spiralling out of control. 'As part of the plan to restore order and close all asylum hotels by the end of the parliament, we are boosting border security, substantially increasing removals of those with no right to be here. 'We are also tackling the Tories' wasteful contracts by ending the use of more expensive accommodation and moving to cheaper options.' 9 The Britannia has been designated for asylum seekers Credit: George Cracknell Wright 9 Earlier this month, the first arrivals saw about 40 male asylum seekers sent to the hotel by coach Credit: George Cracknell Wright 9 Use of the hotel to house asylum seekers has been branded as farcical and an 'insult' to taxpayers Credit: George Cracknell Wright More to follow... Scots Blue Angels biker gang thugs hunted over machete murder bid attack at funeral

Cops are treating the incident as 'attempted murder' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MACHETE-wielding thugs from the Blue Angels biker gang are being hunted over kill bids on three men at a funeral. Witnesses told how 'vanloads' of masked brutes swooped on the send-off for crash victim Gordon Luke, 71, to confront members of the rival Mad Dogs motorcycle club. We told how a grandad, aged 65, plus two other men aged 30 and 44, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The mass brawl happened last Friday at The Hurlet Crematorium in Barrhead, near Glasgow. Last night, a source said: 'The Blue Angels turned up to cause terror — masked-up and armed. It was sickening. "Other mourners told them to leave, and that's when they were attacked. "The three men injured were civilians paying their respects at a friend's funeral. The Blue Angels turned up to cause terror — masked-up and armed. It was sickening... It is now being treated as attempted murder A source 'It is now being treated as attempted murder.' We told of an ongoing feud between rival biker gangs has been raging for months in the wake of high-ranking BA member Laponder leaving the mob and setting Mad Dogs. We told how heavily-tattooed Laponder blamed a 'snitch' in his old crew after being caged for bombing a rival's dad's works van in Lennoxtown, Dunbartonshire, in June last year. The gangs' feud was sparked when ex-Blue Angel Dan Laponder, 44, left to set up his own mob. Biker gang boss blames Blue Angels 'snitch' for jail stretch as video lifts lid on feud Tensions had earlier boiled when a 20-strong mob wrecked a motorbike garage in November 2023. An insider claimed Laponder then opted to switch sides as a pal was one of two men left with horror injuries in the ambush at Totally Spanners in Glasgow's Hillington. Our source said in December: 'Dan looked at who was running about with him and decided he'd had enough.' We told how the brute went on to blow up a BT van used by Blue Angels member David Rollo's father. ATTACK AFTER CRASH ORDEAL By Graham Mann GORDON Luke previously told of being attacked by a mob who burst into his home. The then 64-year-old told The Scottish Sun how he feared for his life when three blade thugs pounced in Linwood, near Paisley. Amputee Gordon - who had lost a leg in a March 2018 bike accident - thought he was a goner when the maniacs booted in his front door. Gordon said in September that year: 'I thought I was going to die. I was terrified. 'They were trying to get to me with knives. There's not much I could do because I'm vulnerable.' The biker club founder said they showed up after he was mugged by two crooks who'd offered to help with his shopping. He added: 'I'd bumped into the people who stole the money and said I wanted it back. 'My biker friends warned them to stay away then I heard kicking at the door. 'To do that to someone in a wheelchair is repulsive.' Weeks later a hooded thug hurled accelerant on a clubhouse in Airdrie in another attack linked to the feud. Laponder, now holed up at Greenock's prison, previously posed with a sawn-off shotgun. He was jailed for nine years at Glasgow's High Court in November. Police Scotland said: 'Around 3pm on Friday officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the Glasgow Road area of Hurlet, Glasgow. 'Emergency services attended and a 30-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries. 'Two other men, aged 44 and 65, were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, both with serious injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.'
