Over ₹1,000 crore siphoned off through cyber frauds in 4 years in Madhya Pradesh; recovery rate below 0.2%
In response to a question raised by Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh, the Home Department said that between May 1, 2021 and July 13, 2025, ₹1,054 crore have been siphoned off in cyber fraud related cases in the State.
Citing the National Cyber Reporting Platform (NCRP) data, the department headed by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that ₹1.94 crore has been recovered from the fraudsters and handed back to the victims, while ₹105.21 crore has been on hold in the same period.
The State has also recorded 6,046 cases of cyber fraud in over five years — January, 2020 to July 15, 2025 — with highest 1,193 cases being reported in 2024, the government said, citing the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) data.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Singh said that the low recovery rate in cyber scam cases reflects that the police are 'not at all equipped to deal with the problem of cyber fraud'.
'The Prime Minister [Narendra Modi] has been promoting online transactions through UPI but this but if Madhya Pradesh alone has recorded cyber fraud of more than Rs1,000 crore, it shows how careless and weak our digital infrastructure is,' Mr. Singh said, while also blaming the low recovery rate on lack of coordination between investigating agencies and financial institutions.
'The CM himself heads the Home Department in our State. He should focus on improving the police's functioning in such cases. In most cases, the police are aware who the accused are but still fail to recover the money as they are not able to work with the banks in coordination,' he added.

Congress launches campaign urging people to 'register' against 'vote chori'
NEW DELHI: Upping the ante over Rahul Gandhi's poll rigging claims, the Congress has launched a web page where people can register to demand accountability from the Election Commission against what it called was "vote chori" and express support for his demand for digital voter rolls. Anyone can click on the portal link and download "vote chori proof, demand EC accountability and report vote chori". It also carries Gandhi's video in which reiterated his explosive claims of a "huge criminal fraud" in the polls through collusion between the BJP and the EC He had cited an analysis in a constituency in Karnataka, and said it was "a crime against the Constitution". The portal also carries a message which states that the vote is the foundation of our democracy but it's under "systematic attack by the BJP, with the Election Commission complicit". "In just one assembly segment of Bangalore Central, we found over 1 lakh fake voters that helped the BJP win this Lok Sabha seat. Imagine this happening in 70-100 seats - it would destroy free elections," it says. "The Congress and INDIA have raised alarms before, including in Maharashtra. Now we have proof. We will fight this vote chori with all our strength. Join us to defend our democracy," the message on the portal reads.

Once a person registers on the portal, a certificate is issued in his name, which states that he stands against "vote chori". "I support Rahul Gandhi's demand of digital voter rolls from the EC," the certificate says. The portal also gives the option to the people of calling on a number and filling the link in the SMS to register. The certificate bears the signatures of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal and treasurer Ajay Maken. Several Congress leaders and supporters had registered on the portal and shared the certificates on social media. With Congress leaders amplifying the "vote theft" allegation of Rahul Gandhi, Election Commission officials on Saturday once again pressed the Leader of the Opposition to either sign a declaration to support his claims or apologise to the country for making "fake" charges. A day after Gandhi and the EC exchanged barbs over alleged vote theft in at least three states, poll authority officials again insisted for a signed declaration by the Congress leader to substantiate his claims.

BJP Blasts Rahul Gandhi After IAF Chief's 'Full Freedom' Remark: 'Deathly Silence In Pak And...'
Last Updated: During a recent discussion in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government 'tied the hands' of IAF pilots by instructing them not to strike Pakistani air defence systems After Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh publicly credited the political leadership for giving 'full freedom" to forces during Operation Sindoor, the BJP launched a sharp offensive against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accused the Centre of 'tying the hands" of jawans. The Air Force Chief credited the Centre's 'political will" for the success of Operation Sindoor, an offensive launched to avenge the killing of 26 civilians in the April Pahalgam terror attack. However, during a recent special discussion in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the government had 'tied the hands" of IAF pilots by instructing them not to strike Pakistani air defence systems. 'You told our pilots to go and attack and face the air defence system of Pakistan. Meaning, you tied their hands behind their back," he had said. Contradicting this claim, Air Chief Marshal Singh stated on Friday that the operation had been conducted without any limitations or restrictions. 'There was very clear political will, very clear directions, which were given to us. And there were no kind of restrictions which were put on us," he said, adding that six Pakistani aircraft were shot down in the action. Addressing speculation about operational constraints, Singh said: 'If there were any constraints, they were self-made. We, the forces, decided what our rules of engagement will be… I want to make it very clear, there were no, I repeat, no restrictions on us. Full freedom was given to us to plan and execute." I request Rahul Gandhi ji to maintain the decorum of India's Parliament. Why do you keep lying all the time?I have witnessed many Leaders of Opposition who had maintained Parliamentary standards. You have not only lowered your stature but damaged India's high reputation! — Kiren Rijiju (@KirenRijiju) August 9, 2025 'Deathly Silence In Pak And Congress' Air Force Chief's remarks triggered a political backlash from the BJP, with the party's IT cell chief Amit Malviya taking a 'deathly silence" swipe at Congress. 'There is a deathly silence in both the Congress and Pakistan media after Air Chief Marshal AP Singh revealed details of Pakistani fighter aircraft and military installations destroyed during #OperationSindoor. The timing is surreal, coming right after Rahul Gandhi made a complete fool of himself on the floor of Parliament," Malviya posted on X. 'Whatever little credibility the Leader of Opposition had is now in tatters, if he had any to begin with. The symbolism of Rakshabandhan being the chosen day is not lost on anyone." Coming right after Rahul Gandhi made a… — Amit Malviya (@amitmalviya) August 9, 2025 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Air Chief Marshal's statement should 'put the Congress party to shame." 'First, their leaders peddled lies on India's losses whereas we now have quantifiable, detailed and irrefutable proof on the wrath inflicted upon the enemy. Second, they ran another Pak-originated disinfo campaign claiming the Modi Govt put restrictions on the operational capability of our forces. This, too, has been debunked comprehensively," he said. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also slammed Rahul Gandhi, urging him to maintain the decorum of the Parliament. 'Why do you keep lying all the time? I have witnessed many Leaders of Opposition who have maintained Parliamentary standards. You have not only lowered your stature but damaged India's high reputation," he said. The BJP leaders posted a video debunking Gandhi's claim, showing the statement of the IAF chief on Operation Sindoor. view comments First Published: News india BJP Blasts Rahul Gandhi After IAF Chief's 'Full Freedom' Remark: 'Deathly Silence In Pak And...'
