In Seremban, married couple claim trial to organising unlicensed Haj trip
Mhd Lihan Sabari, 60, and his wife Noor Nisrin Mahlim, 58, made the plea after the charge was read out to them before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
They are jointly charged with making a business transaction to organise a trip to the holy land for the Haj pilgrimage without a licence by accepting RM81,000 from a woman between April 4 and 7 this year at a bank branch in Mantin.
The offence, under Section 27(1)(a) of the Tabung Haji Act 1955 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, provides a fine of not less than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year or both, for the first offence, and a fine of not less than RM500,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years or both, for the second offence, if found guilty
The couple was allowed bail of RM12,000 with one surety each and also ordered to surrender their passports to the court, report to the Yong Peng police station once a month and not intimidate the complainant pending disposal of the case.
The court set August 11 for mention for the submission of documents.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Syamimi Farhana Muhammad A Aziz, while lawyer Mohd Razak Sharif represented the couple. — Bernama

Woman nabbed after reckless driving, knife attack in Kajang

KUALA LUMPUR : Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman suspected of driving recklessly, crashing into three motorcycles, and attacking members of the public at a traffic light intersection in Kajang today. Kajang police chief Naazron Yusof said an initial investigation found that the foreign woman had been driving dangerously near a shopping mall before exiting her vehicle and attacking the public with a knife. The public helped to detain the woman and hand her over to the police, along with two knives allegedly used in the attack. Naazron said six people were injured. Two were admitted to hospital while the other four received outpatient treatment. Three motorcycles were also damaged after being hit by the woman's vehicle. He said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 279 of the same code for rash driving, and Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media. It showed a woman involved in an accident exiting her vehicle while holding a knife. Also seen in the video were several injured motorcyclists and members of the public attempting to detain the woman.

New monitoring mechanisms for EAIC as part of rebranding
The EAIC said its new logo symbolises its sharpness and vigilance in monitoring misconduct. PETALING JAYA : The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) today said it is introducing new mechanisms to monitor the progress of its probes and enhancing its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for investigations as part of the organisation's rebranding. In a statement, the EAIC said it had conducted studies on the effectiveness of enforcement agencies under its purview and participated in field operations and consultations with stakeholders to better understand the issues faced by the agencies in question. It said the rebranding marked the continuation of reforms which started last year, including the establishment of a special task force to investigate high-profile and public interest cases. Such cases include the illegal disposal of electronic waste (e-waste), abuse of power in the issuance of medical visas, and a study to identify preventive measures for deaths in custody. The EAIC also introduced a new logo, featuring elements of a tiger's eye and claw, meant to symbolise sharpness and vigilance in monitoring misconduct. 'This rebranding aims to clearly communicate the commission's mission to move forward as a leader in improving integrity, transparency, and public trust among enforcement agencies,' it said. The EAIC is a federal statutory body under the Prime Minister's Department, established in 2011 to monitor, investigate, and report on misconduct by personnel from enforcement agencies. It also handles public complaints about misconduct in enforcement agencies such as the police, immigration department, and road transport department.

Police probing Parliament scuffle that left officer injured

Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. Section 353 provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, while Section 427 provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. In a statement, Fadil referenced a video on TikTok which saw participants of a gathering 'provoking and forcefully breaching' police officers who were on duty during the event at Jalan Parlimen. He said police respected the public's right to express opinions and to assemble peacefully, and were committed to playing their role as a facilitator at such events. '(But) these rights should be exercised responsibly and prudently,' he said. 'Firm action will be taken against individuals or groups who instigate chaos or engage in excessive provocation.' Earlier today, FMT reported that more than 100 plantation workers from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah and Johor marched from Taman Tugu in the capital to Parliament to submit a memorandum on housing and a draft bill making it compulsory for estates to provide homes for local plantation workers. Police blocked the group from gathering at Parliament's gates but later allowed the workers to hand over the documents to deputy law and institutional reform minister M Kulasegaran and opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan.
