Butler County volleyball coach and elementary teacher accused of having sexual relationship with teenager
An elementary school teacher and youth volleyball coach in Butler County has been arrested and is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenager. Pennsylvania State Police said Friday that Jared Lampus, 50, of Sarver, was arrested following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. Lampus, who State Police say is a teacher at Buffalo Elementary School in the Freeport Area School District and a youth coach with the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association, is facing numerous charges including rape, sexual assault, corruption of minors, and other offenses. State Police say Lampus had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old child. Troopers say the misconduct took place in Butler, Armstrong, and Allegheny counties. Details on the investigation and charges haven't been released, but State Police say Lampus is being held in the Butler County Jail. In a statement provided to KDKA-TV, the Freeport Area School District said it was notified of the investigation and at this time, they don't have complete information of the circumstances of the matter. The district says Lampus has been placed on leave pending further information or the outcome of the State Police investigation. "The safety of our students is the highest priority of the Freeport Area School District," the district said. KDKA has also reached out to the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association for comment. Lampus is no longer listed on the organization's staff directory. State Police are asking anyone with information about similar conduct from Lampus to contact the Kittanning barracks at 724-543-2011.

Australia grants asylum to former Hong Kong lawmaker and pro-democracy activist

Hui said he received written notice from the Australian Department of Home Affairs on Friday approving his claim and that his wife, children and parents were also granted visas. "When people around me say 'congratulations' to me, although I politely thank them, I can't help but feel sad in my heart. How to congratulate a political refugee who misses his hometown?" he said in the Facebook post. "If it weren't for political persecution, I would never have thought of living in a foreign land. Immigrants can always return to their hometowns to visit relatives at any time; Exiles have no home." The Home Affairs Department did not immediately respond to emailed questions sent after business hours. The Hong Kong government and China's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to questions about the decision. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Beijing last month as part of his administration's years-long push to improve ties with China. A former Democratic Party lawmaker, Hui left Hong Kong late 2020 after facing criminal charges over the 2019 pro-democracy protests. In 2023 Hong Kong accused him and seven others of national security offences, including incitement to secession, and put HK$1 million ($127,782) bounties on their heads. Australia said it was disappointed by the decision at the time and concerned about the law. Pro-democracy businessman Jimmy Lai is currently on trial in Hong Kong on charges related to a national security law imposed by Beijing and alleged sedition. Major coastal search for four women
Emergency services have launched an air and sea search after a group of women reportedly became stranded on rocks at Lake Macquarie on Saturday. Police were called to the area about 1.40pm, after witnesses saw four females on rocks south of Catherine Hill Bay Beach around 1pm, before the rising tide obscured them from view. Local officers, the Marine Area Command and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter have been scouring the area but have not located the group. It is unclear if the women managed to reach safety. One of the females was reportedly wearing red shorts. Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately. More to come.
