Barbra Streisand loves being with grandchildren
The 83-year-old actress - whose stepson Josh Brolin is dad to Trevor, 37, Eden, 32, Westlyn, six, and four-year-old Chapel and stepdaughter has three-year-old Soli - admitted her latest album, 'The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two', was inspired by the pleasure she takes in being surrounded by family.
Barbra - who has son Jason, 58, with ex-husband Elliott Gould and is married to James Brolin - told People magazine:"I had asked my daughter-in-law, who's also a photographer, to bring the children over and take some pictures with me. The kids were walking toward me, and I was standing behind a screen door, and I said, 'Oh Kathryn, take this picture right now.'
"The point is, the feeling whenever they're here is just joyous. It's very, very special...
"It's wonderful to have family. And that's how The Secret of Life title came — [the secret] is several things, but one of them is family,"
The album is Barbra's first in almost seven years, and features duets with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and Tim McGraw, but the Funny Girl star admitted she wasn't sure she was up to recording after the extensive process of recording the audiobook version of her memoir xx left her "hoarse".
She said: "I hadn't sung in a long time so I didn't know if I had a voice left."
But Barbra has no plans to give up her career and she still particularly loves recording new music.
She said: "As long as I have a voice, I love the privacy of recording.
"I love standing there in front of the mic with the music in my ears and singing, and there are more songs I want to sing. And I even have my original list of songs I've wanted to sing [since I was 18 years old]."
Barbra began her career when she was 13 years old and she'd advise her younger self to trust her instincts.
Asked what she'd have told her younger self, she said: "I'd tell her, 'Believe in yourself, believe in your choices. Believe in what you hear, what you feel.' I did it instinctively."

The realty star wrote: "It was a series of private phone calls no one will ever hear, know, or understand. My father was confiding in me about issues weighing on his heart, both personal and business. I offered to be a life raft in whatever capacity he needed. I told him he had my support. I begged him to rest, to take care of himself." Brooke - Hulk's eldest child from his marriage to first wife Linda Hogan - added: "We had been through almost 25 surgeries together, and then all of a sudden he didn't want me at surgeries…everything started getting covered in a thick veil. It was like there was a force field around him that I couldn't get through. (sic)" She explained how the pair's relationship ultimately collapsed due to a series of "respectful disagreements". Brooke said: "He was telling me these things, being so vulnerable with me and heard my pleas, then suddenly something shifted, and he made a choice to walk the path that clearly tore at his spirit. I felt a disconnect. What followed were respectful disagreements that took an emotional toll on me."

The Aquaman star explores his Hawaiian heritage in new Apple TV+ series Chief of War - which tells the story of the unification of the islands at the turn of the 18th century - and he is convinced the stars have aligned to bring him to a place in his career where he could show the lives of his ancestors onscreen. He told PEOPLE: "I feel like this whole thing has chosen me in a way, like this is my destiny," he says. "I have no idea how I got to all this, but we're here, and I'm very grateful. I'm living my dream doing what I love to do. To play my ancestors is such a responsibility. It's scary and exciting." Jason added: "My dad is a coach at an outrigger canoe club, which is where I learned how to surf. "Just this morning, the sand pulled back and revealed massive petroglyphs [ancient carvings] right in the place where I grew up. It's kind of insane. I've never experienced that before." The actor also got the chance to write and direct while working on the show and he has insisted he's finally get the chance to show a different side to himself. He told the Metro newspaper: "It's my heart and soul. This has been in me my whole life. I'm ready. Put it on me. " I feel like I've been mismanaged and people don't really know who I am, since the beginning, so now I finally get a chance to [show] 'No, I can direct and write'." Jason went on to applaud bosses at Apple for taking a chance on a show about Hawaii's history, adding: "It's a bold thing to do. "I think Apple had a lot of trust in us, because there's nothing to prove it against. No one's ever heard the language. There's a lot of actors that have never been seen before. It's a lot ... "There's a lot of change and a lot to bring back of a culture that was … Our language is banned from us and we're getting it back. A lot of our art … We're part of America and I don't think anyone really knows anything about us. "[We] really have to celebrate Apple for just taking on something that's this big, and putting the trust in me ... "
