Tennis: Sinner lukewarm on expanded Cincinnati format - Omni sports
The world number one will be defending his title at the final big event prior to the August 24 start of the US Open.
Extending the ongoing Canada event - and Cincinnati - to 12 days with 96-player draws also means that WTA and ATP events in Canada will stage unorthodox finals on Thursday while play is beginning in Cincinnati.
Sinner said that given the choice he would opt for the classic system of one-week events for an increasingly crowded calendar.
"We (top players) cannot control everything," the Italian said. "The fans now have two weekends to hopefully watch some good tennis.
"That is exactly what we need in this sport."
But the Wimbledon champion who skipped Canada to rest after his triumph two weeks earlier in the final at the All England Club over Carlos Alcaraz added: "I would prefer a one-week event, it's something that I like.
"But it's OK, I'm here and I'm very happy."
Other top 10 players, including Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur, have also complained in recent days about the wholesale calendar rewrite which has the enthusiastic endorsement of the ATP and WTA.
Sinner said that he enjoyed his time away from the courts, spending time at home with family and friends.
"Then it was back to practice to try and get as ready as possible for the US swing."
He said Wimbledon, where he beat Alcaraz after losing to the Spaniard at Roland Garros, "felt very, very special."

Egyptian Premier League side Masry have announced the signing of French left-back Kylian Karsenty on a free transfer after the 19-year-old successfully completed medical tests with the club on Monday. Karsenty began his football career with AS Monaco's U19 team in July 2023 before moving to Italian third-tier team Gelbison on a free transfer in September 2024. After two months, he became a free agent and joined Lazio's U20 team in December 2024. The defender made 12 appearances for Lazio's U20 side and played 10 games for Gelbison. His time with AS Monaco's U19s saw him feature in just seven matches. Handball: Hosts Egypt held by Czech Republic in U-19 World Championship - Omni sports
Egypt's U-19 handball team began their main round campaign with a 35-35 draw against the Czech Republic, with both sides earning a point from the game. The Egyptian team rallied from a three-goal deficit at halftime, which ended 20-17 in favor of the Czechs, to secure the draw in the final minute. A standout performance from Egypt's goalkeeper, who made several crucial saves, played a key role in keeping his team's hopes alive. Egypt are currently second in their group with three points, one point behind Denmark, who defeated Japan 38-25 earlier on Monday. The Pharaohs will face Denmark on Tuesday, while the Czech Republic will play Japan on the same day. The top two teams from each of the four main round groups will advance to the quarter-finals. Handball: Ahly drawn with Veszprem in IHF Club World Championship, Zamalek to face Barcelona - Omni sports
Egyptian champions Ahly have been drawn with Hungary's Telekom Veszprém and Australia's Sydney University in Group B of the IHF Club World Championship, which will take place in Cairo from 26 September to 2 October. As tournament hosts and African champions, Ahly were granted the privilege of selecting their group and opted for Group B. According to the competition format, the three group winners will advance to the semi-finals, along with the best-performing runner-up across all groups. Defending champions Veszprem boast four Egyptian players in their squad: Yehia El-Deraa, Ahmed Hisham, and former Ahly players Ali Zein and Ahmed Adel, who joined the Hungarian side this summer. Ahly made history last year by becoming the first non-European team to defeat Barcelona, beating them in the third-place playoff. They also met Sydney University in the group stage, securing a commanding 49–15 victory. The draw, held at Cairo Stadium on Monday, handed domestic rivals Zamalek a tough clash in Group C, where they will face Spanish giants Barcelona and Brazil's Handebol Clube Taubate, winners of the South and Central American Men's Club Championship. Group A also features UAE champions Sharjah, winners of the Asian Club League Championship; the United States' California Eagles, champions of the North American and Caribbean Club Championship; and European champions SC Magdeburg of Germany.
