CENTCOM Chief Praises Pakistan's Role Against ISIS-K
Israa Farhan The Commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Kurilla, has commended Pakistan's critical partnership in combating the transnational terrorist group ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), characterizing the nation as a pivotal ally in global counterterrorism efforts. Speaking before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, General Kurilla highlighted Pakistan's robust intelligence cooperation with the United States, which has led to significant operational successes against ISIS-K. He noted that Pakistan's sustained counterterrorism campaign has severely weakened the group's operational capabilities in the region. General Kurilla detailed how ongoing Taliban operations in Afghanistan have forced ISIS-K fighters into the tribal borderlands between Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is in these regions, he said, that Pakistani forces, bolstered by US intelligence, have captured multiple high-value operatives and disrupted planned attacks. Among the successes cited was the arrest of Jafar, a central figure in the 2021 Abbey Gate suicide bombing in Kabul, which killed 13 US service members. General Kurilla revealed that Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, personally contacted him to confirm Jafar's capture and readiness for extradition to the United States. General Kurilla also outlined ISIS-K's global threat profile, linking the group to high-casualty attacks such as the Crocus City Hall massacre in Moscow and the Kerman bombing in Iran. He added that further intelligence regarding ISIS-K plots targeting the U.S. would be shared in a classified setting. Despite the persistent threat, Kurilla asserted that ISIS-K is currently at a low point, largely due to Pakistan's ongoing military pressure. He acknowledged the heavy price Pakistan has paid, citing over 1,000 terrorist incidents since early 2024, resulting in the deaths of approximately 700 security personnel and 2,500 civilians. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

CAIRO - 12 June 2025: In a phone call with the US special envoy for the Middle East, Egyptian Minister of Foreign affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty called for continuing the existing US-Iranian negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file to prevent the region from sliding into further instability. Abdelatty's call came following the regional escalation took place when the US partially evacuated its diplomatic mission from Iraq and other missions from Bahrain and Kuwait after the latest round of talks [the fifth round since April] on the Iranian nuclear file in Italy reached deadlock as Washington seeks to prevent Tehran from enriching the Uranuim. Abdelatty added that the negotiations represent an important opportunity to achieve calm and avoid escalation. This call also comes as part of the ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United States regarding developments in the Middle East. The call addressed the joint efforts made by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to timely reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and ensure full access for humanitarian aid to the strip to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The Egyptian minister of foreign affairs emphasized the need to reach a permanent and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that meets the aspirations of the peoples of the Middle East for peace, security, and sustainable stability.

Israel kills 22 Palestinians across Gaza, including 16 near aid centres - War on Gaza
Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli fire killed 22 people across the Palestinian territory on Thursday, including 16 who were waiting to collect aid. The distribution of food and basic supplies under the US-Israeli new system in Gaza has become increasingly fraught and perilous, exacerbating the territory's deep hunger crisis. Civil defence official Mohammed al-Mughayyir told AFP that the Al-Awda Hospital received 10 dead and around 200 wounded, including women and children, "after Israeli drones dropped multiple bombs on gatherings of civilians near an aid distribution point around the Netzarim checkpoint in central Gaza". He said that Gaza City's Al-Shifa Hospital received six dead following Israeli attacks on aid queues near Netzarim and in the Al-Sudaniya area in northwestern Gaza. Mughayyir said another six people were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza. The US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) alleged that the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas attacked aid workers en route to a distribution centre on Wednesday, saying at least five people were killed. GHF said a bus carrying its staff to a distribution site near the southern city of Khan Yunis was "brutally attacked by Hamas" around 10:00 pm (1900 GMT). In an email to AFP, the resistance group added that all five of the people killed were Palestinian aid workers for GHF. However, a unit of Gaza's police force said it killed 12 members of an Israeli-backed militia after detaining them early Thursday. Dozens of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire while trying to reach GHF distribution points since they began operating in late May, according to Gaza's civil defence agency. *This story was edited by Ahram Online Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
