Agriculture output rises 40% in 10 years, says Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said agriculture production in the country increased by 40 per cent in the last 10 years and that the sector saw growth rate of 5.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2024-25 financial year.
Chouhan, who attended events here as part of the Central government's 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' , said even a one-two per cent growth in agriculture is considered big in the world.
Monday (June 9) is a historic day as it marks the first anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in his third tenure, he said.
The year has been full of achievements, he added.
"If I see from the agriculture perspective, it is the impact of PM Modi's vision, policies and programmes that agriculture growth rate was 5.4 per cent in the fourth quarter," he told reporters.
The country has set new records in the production of wheat, paddy, soya bean, groundnut and others and the storehouses for grain are full, he said.
"In the last 10 years, we have increased (agriculture) production by 40 per cent. There is no shortage of food grains and India is exporting to other countries," he said.
He congratulated PM Modi, farmers and scientists on the record food production.
Addressing a gathering as part of the Abhiyan, Chouhan said he had a meeting with officials during the recent India-Pakistan conflict to take stock of food grains.
He said he was told that the warehouses are full and there is no cause for worry even if the conflict prolongs.
He emphasised ensuring food security, increasing farmers' income, making available nutritious food and safeguarding soil health.
Observing that agriculture scientists are being encouraged to interact with farmers, he said 2,170 scientific teams are visiting villages across the country.

Proud of how MPs advocated India's voice, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday commended the seven multi-party delegations for effectively representing India's stance in global capitals following Operation Sindoor , a decisive strike against terrorist hubs in Pakistan and PoK. "Met members of various delegations who represented India in different countries and elaborated on India's commitment to peace and the need to eradicate the menace of terrorism. We're all proud of the manner in which they put forward India's voice," PM said on X. Over 50 representatives from the delegations, who visited 33 foreign capitals and the EU, called on Modi to share their experiences. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said the PM was "very pleasant" to the delegation members, seeing it as an opportunity to thank them. "He walked around the lawn to different tables, talking to different groups of people... It was a good, lively, informal meeting," Tharoor said, adding that MPs shared insights and suggested such visits be made a regular practice, which the PM seemed to support. The delegations - comprising current and former MPs and ex-diplomats - conveyed India's firm stand against Pakistan-linked terrorism and its commitment to global peace. EAM S Jaishankar had earlier praised the delegations for highlighting India's position.

Rules set by Centre to deal with human-animal conflict ridiculous: min

T'puram: Forest minister A K Saseendran has said that if a tiger or leopard enters a populated area, the central rules cannot be followed, and the conditions set by the Centre are ridiculous. The minister, while responding to the reported claims by Union minister Bhupendra Yadav regarding the state's powers to kill wild animals and the electrocution of a teen in a wild boar trap at Nilambur, said the rules proposed by the Centre are impractical and cannot be followed to handle human-animal conflict. The Centre's stance on the human-animal conflict in the state was unacceptable, he said. The state govt had been asking the Union govt to permit it to declare wild boar as vermin and to remove bonnet macaque from Schedule I and II. The Union minister said that the Centre has issued guidelines to the state to implement a few measures, including giving powers to the panchayats to kill the animals if they posed a threat to human life and crops. Yadav had said that the boy's death was due to the negligence of the state govt. Saseendran termed the reported claims by the Union minister "half-truths" and "baseless". He said the Union minister was merely reiterating the allegations of the opposition with regard to the boy's death. He denied any negligence on the part of the state govt. Saseendran also said that while the chief wildlife warden (CWC) has powers to order killing of a wild animal which causes loss of life or property in populated areas, a standard operating procedure (SOP) has to be followed before issuing any such directive. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo One of the requirements under the SOP is to constitute a local area committee which shall also include a representative of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the minister said. He said that there are similar impractical requirements in the SOP which hamper the decision to be taken by the CWC. "We sent a letter requesting the central govt to give relaxations with regard to such requirements in the SOP. However, there is no response yet on that and the Union minister was silent about it when he spoke to the media," Saseendran said. He claimed that such "double standards" of the Centre were responsible for the sufferings of the people living in the hilly regions of the state.

BJP leaders in Jharkhand, Bihar laud Modi govt.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani in Jharkhand and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in Bihar listed out the achievements to commemorate the 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. Addressing a press conference at the BJP office in Patna, Mr. Meghwal said the scale and speed of the schemes have changed under the Prime Minister's leadership. He cites an example that earlier also there was a plan to build houses but the amount was less and it took more time. 'But when the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched by the Modi government, the amount increased, the scale increased and the time of its completion also decreased,' Mr. Meghwal said in the presence of Bihar BJP president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal. In Ranchi, a professional meet was organised by the BJP's Ranchi Rural District wing. Speaking as the chief guest, Ms. Irani said, 'The BJP government under the leadership of Modiji is not hungry for power but to serve the poor farmers and women in villages.' The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha termed the celebration a 'mockery of people's pain and unanswered questions'. Party spokesperson Tanuj Khatri said the ground reality here does not reflect the grand celebrations. 'It echoes with the cries of the people, their struggles,' he said.
