The Sun28-05-2025
BENTLEY Kuala Lumpur has officially unveiled the fourth-generation Continental GT Speed, ushering in a bold new chapter in the marque's storied 21-year journey of producing luxurious, high-performance grand tourers. This latest iteration stands as the most technologically advanced and visually transformative Continental GT to date, blending thrilling supercar performance with refined craftsmanship and everyday usability.
Drawing inspiration from Bentley's coachbuilt masterpieces such as the Bacalar and Batur, the new Continental GT Speed introduces the most dramatic design overhaul in two decades. The sleek, muscular silhouette now features single front headlamps—a stylistic nod to Bentley models of the 1950s. The front fascia has been reimagined with integrated, body-coloured aerodynamic elements, giving it a cleaner and more assertive stance.
At the rear, the grand tourer now boasts wider taillight graphics, a reprofiled bumper, and a fixed aerodynamic boot lid, which eliminates the need for a deployable spoiler. Enhancing its road presence are newly designed 22-inch alloy wheels, inspired by the powerful stance of a tiger. These are available in various finishes, including gloss black, silver, and a dark tint with polished details, further underlining the car's dynamic yet elegant character.
Beneath its striking exterior lies the heart of a technological revolution. The fourth-generation GT Speed debuts Bentley's new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, pairing a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine (producing 600 PS and 800 Nm of torque) with a 190 PS electric motor. Together, they deliver a formidable 782 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque–translating to an 11% increase in torque and a 19% boost in power compared to the previous W12-powered GT Speed.
This electrified powertrain propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 335 km/h. The 25.9 kWh battery, positioned behind the rear axle for optimal weight distribution (49:51 rear bias), enables an electric-only range of 81 km. Combined, the car achieves an impressive total range of 859 km, making it not only blisteringly fast but also remarkably efficient.
Power delivery is handled by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, while traction and handling are bolstered by an electronic limited-slip differential, active torque vectoring, and regenerative braking, ensuring confident performance in all conditions.
The new Continental GT Speed also marks the debut of Bentley's Performance Active Chassis system. This includes dual-chamber air springs and twin-valve dampers that balance ride comfort with dynamic control. The 48-volt Bentley Dynamic Ride system actively counteracts body roll during spirited driving, offering exceptional flat cornering capabilities.
An advanced Electronic Stability Control system, now featuring a Dynamic mode, enables controlled oversteer for those seeking a more engaging driving experience. Meanwhile, active all-wheel drive and the eLSD further refine agility and stability. Bentley's revised damper control ECU now manages compression and rebound independently, delivering enhanced ride quality and body control across all drive modes—be it Comfort, Bentley, or Sport.
Inside, Bentley continues to redefine automotive luxury. The cabin is adorned with intricate three-dimensional leather surfaces, newly designed quilted upholstery, and dark chrome accents. State-of-the-art wellness seating and air ionisation technology provide a serene, health-conscious environment for occupants.
The driver and passengers benefit from an advanced infotainment system backed by a 400V electrical architecture, offering seamless connectivity and enhanced digital functionality, all while maintaining the tactile elegance Bentley is renowned for.
Unlike many modern hybrids, the GT Speed's V8 soundtrack remains authentic and mechanical, eschewing artificial enhancements. The acoustic signature evolves naturally with engine speed, offering an emotional and immersive driving experience that reflects the spirit of true grand touring.
Lighting technology has also received a major update. The new single-lens matrix LED headlamps house 120 individually controlled LEDs, offering adaptive high beam functionality and a crystal-inspired visual effect. At the rear, the 3D diamond-patterned taillights emit a distinctive molten lava glow, adding a layer of visual drama and modern sophistication to the vehicle's rear profile.
With the arrival of the fourth-generation Continental GT Speed, Bentley has once again reasserted its position at the pinnacle of the grand tourer segment. The model not only sets a new benchmark in luxury and performance but also signifies the brand's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and uncompromised driving pleasure.

Bentley's new V-8 SUV is the best Bentayga yet

Even with fewer cylinders, the new 2026 Bentayga Speed has plenty to like by HANNAH ELLIOTT SOME people get hung up counting cylinders. They believe the more a car has, the better it is. I'm not one of those people. Instead, steering, braking and balance — the management of the marriage between power and torque — matter far more when it comes to driving enjoyment. Engine size doesn't necessarily indicate driving character. The magic is in the transitions. That's why I liked the 2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed. The new V-8 SUV claims fewer cylinders than its W12 predecessor, but it offers more power, better balance, improved control and a deeper, downright angry engine note that will strike fear into whomever has the poor luck of slowing it down. Bentley Motors Ltd will unleash a new all-electric SUV next year and will keep making hybrids at least until 2035. In the meantime, this SUV will more than mollify those still attached to combustion — even without those four extra cylinders. All models come standard with 10.9-inch infotainment screen with navigation The Essentials Unveiled in 2015, the Bentayga competes against ultraluxe followers including the Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Mercedes-Maybach GLS and Aston Martin DBX. Although it's not as opulent as the Cullinan or as athletic as the Urus, it's a strong contender among the set as a powerful, practical SUV with a distinct design and a sense of occasion to match. Base prices will be announced imminently, Bentley said; the specific model I drove cost €225,882 (RM1.12 million). The Bentayga Speed's new twin-turbo four-litre V-8 produces 641hp and 627 lb ft of torque — that's about 100 more horses and 60 lb ft more than its predecessor, the Bentayga S, and current lower Bentayga trims. It will go 0mph-60mph in 3.4 seconds (quite respectable) and deliver a top speed of 193mph. An enhanced Sport mode and new stability control and anti-roll settings maximise the car's connection to the road more than previous generations. Four-wheel steering now comes standard. This rig has the sportiest chassis set-up ever offered on a Bentayga. It includes, for the first time, the ability to generate on-throttle slip angles, which means you can use the throttle to modulate some slip in the tyres, especially on the rear wheels. That's a polite way of saying it will drift. I must admit I did some fishtailing of my own, off-road on the back 40 of Jumping Horse Stock Ranch near Ennis, Montana. The Bentayga Speed, in a glorious hue called Alpine green satin, proved dexterous and even playful as I sped past quarter horses and mule deer grazing along the uneven dirt and gravel track. I didn't want to leave. Those with a sense of style should refrain from overdoing the interior The Good The best thing about the Bentayga Speed is how it drives. Surprised? Previous versions of the Bentayga have indeed felt a little sleepy, but this Speed feels sharp. Stiffer too, by 15%, Bentley told me. It was intoxicating to press the gas pedal and bump the paddles on the steering wheel under Yellowstone skies, coaxing the Speed to go faster. (I don't think it was just because of that throaty new titanium exhaust system made by the esteemed Akrapovič brand, but that probably did have something to do with it.) Across more than 200 miles (321.87km) in a day on some of Montana's grandest highways and alongside its gnarliest rivers the Speed stayed planted and controlled, carrying its weight well especially in my favourite mode: Sport. I loved the directness of the steering in particular. It's got plenty of extras inside its silent confines, including a heads-up display and night vision, heated armrests even in the rear, and ventilated and massaging seats. Its body is shaping up, gradually, to look more serious. The current Speed reminds me of that cousin we all have who once had a slightly round face but who has been working out — and it shows. It's not an Ozempic-style deflation; it's muscle mass. There's definition: Roof rails; bigger (23-inch) wheels; quad tail pipes; optional blackware on the lamps, grill and badges; and myriad colour options on the massive carbon ceramic brakes. They all help make it look as if it's got the guts to match the incredible menacing sound of that engine. The Bentayga features a commanding stance with 21-inch wheels as standard The Bad A caveat: Those with a sense of style should refrain from overdoing the interior with optional trims. The myriad options for contrast stitching, supple leathers, open-pore woods and diamond patterns seemingly everywhere can lead the over-eager buyer down the path of chaos. The pillows alone are an aesthetic minefield. Be careful on the options in general. Things such as black wheels (€10,370), satin paintwork (€16,935) and titanium exhaust (€7,740) will send the final price soaring. If You Remember One Thing This is the best Bentley SUV we've seen yet. As the company progresses deeper into high-performance products with former Porsche motorsport guru Frank-Steffen Walliser at the helm, all indicators imply this is leading us somewhere very good. — Bloomberg This article first appeared in The Malaysian Reserve weekly print edition

Bentley reveals EXP 15 concept, blending heritage elegance with futuristic innovation

BENTLEY Motors has officially opened the doors to its new state-of-the-art design studio with the unveiling of a bold new concept vehicle, EXP 15. This luxury grand tourer reimagines Bentley's early 20th-century design philosophy through a modern lens, capturing the essence of the marque's heritage while offering a glimpse into its electrified future. Positioned as a visionary study rather than a production model, EXP 15 is a full-scale physical representation of what Bentley sees as the evolution of grand touring. Drawing design inspiration from the iconic 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupe, commonly referred to as the 'Blue Train,' the EXP 15 combines a timeless silhouette with advanced technology, modern aerodynamics, and sustainable materials. The long bonnet, upright grille, and set-back cabin evoke the romanticism of Bentley's racing past, but with cutting-edge surfacing and high-tech lighting that place the model firmly in the present. The exterior design adheres to five core principles that Bentley says will shape its next generation of cars. These include the concept of 'Upright Elegance,' where the car's front exhibits a vertical line akin to a poised thoroughbred, the 'Iconic Grille,' which retains Bentley's signature face while adapting to electric vehicle requirements, the 'Endless Bonnet Line' that stretches seamlessly toward the rear pillar, the 'Resting Beast' stance inspired by the powerful but relaxed posture of a big cat, and the 'Prestigious Shield,' which reflects a clean rear profile, echoing the luggage compartments of vintage Bentleys. Despite the all-electric underpinnings that require far less space than traditional combustion engines, the EXP 15 still features bonnet compartments for storage, accessed via hinged twin panels reminiscent of the Gurney Nutting coupe's piano-style engine covers. The rear, meanwhile, hosts deployable spoilers and an active diffuser, contributing to aerodynamic efficiency and visual drama. The lighting system integrates advanced LED elements arranged in Bentley's iconic diamond motif, reinterpreted through a digital lens to offer both visual identity and functional performance. The EXP 15's bodywork is sculpted with three key themes: 'Monolithic Presence,' implying the car was carved from a single block, 'Muscular Form,' reflecting the taut elegance of an athlete's frame, and 'Carved Precision,' which ensures sharp detailing without sacrificing solidity. These themes help shape the vehicle's commanding presence while reducing visual mass. Inside, the EXP 15 transitions from classic to contemporary through a tri-seat configuration and an immersive virtual reality-based design process. The seating layout is unconventional; one door on the driver's side provides access to a cocooned driving position, while two coach doors on the passenger side swing upward with a section of the panoramic roof, enhancing ingress and egress. The main passenger seat can swivel 45 degrees outward, reinforcing Bentley's tradition of 'the art of arrival.' Passengers can reposition this seat into various modes, co-pilot, standard, or relax, offering versatility in comfort and utility. Notably, the footwell can convert into a functional storage area, while the rear hatch opens to reveal picnic seating, an illuminated lamp, and a retractable fridge, turning the car into a refined setting for outdoor leisure. Interior design draws from the five Bentley principles as well. The iconic 'Wing Gesture' dashboard is reimagined with sweeping lines, while 'Bold Gravitas' brings natural materials like wood, stone, and metal to the forefront. 'Cocooning Haven' reflects Bentley's focus on passenger comfort, offering optional privacy elements that enclose occupants in serenity. 'Iconic Details' continue the tradition of diamond quilting, knurled controls, and ornate vents. Perhaps most transformative is the fifth principle, 'Magical Fusion.' Here, Bentley fuses digital and physical elements, creating a seamless experience. The dashboard can transform from an expansive digital interface to a veneered surface, while a central 'Mechanical Marvel,' a clock-like device with glowing, moving fingers, conveys travel direction and battery status, or simply acts as a stunning centrepiece. This duality mirrors a luxury watch on one wrist and a digital companion on the other, timelessness and technology in harmony. Material choices throughout the cabin are equally considered. The rear features a silk jacquard textile from British heritage mill Gainsborough, offset against futuristic woven metal mesh known as Acrylic Couture, which emits radiant light when illuminated. Diamond-cut veneers backlit with ambient lighting create what Bentley calls an 'active 3D quilt.' The damson ombre effect seen in the executive trim theme employs 100 per cent wool textiles from Fox Brothers, whose heritage dates back over 250 years. These traditional materials sit beside titanium details created using 3D-printing, reducing weight and production waste while offering tactile sophistication. Externally, the EXP 15 wears a striking Pallas Gold satin finish that incorporates ultra-thin aluminium pigments. These allow radar and lidar signals to pass through uninhibited, making the paint suitable for advanced driver assistance systems and future autonomous technologies. Although not destined for production, EXP 15 previews Bentley's aspirations for a new generation of grand tourers, fully electric, uncompromising in performance, and laden with sustainable luxury. It is not a direct preview of the brand's upcoming all-electric model expected in 2026, but its DNA will inform future design and technical direction. Robin Page, Bentley's Director of Design, noted that the EXP 15 also acts as a gauge for shifting customer tastes, especially as the traditional saloon body style evolves. The concept blends the stately poise of a historic Bentley with the progressive spirit of the modern era, serving as both a statement of intent and an invitation to imagine the future of luxury motoring.
