Sonam Kapoor Once Said She Doesn't Have The 'Reputation Of Having Boyfriends': 'I'm Conservative'
Years before marriage to Anand Ahuja and motherhood, Sonam Kapoor opened up about the unique way her parents combined liberal attitudes with firm discipline — especially when it came to her work in Bollywood, during a chat with Rediff.
Living now in London with her family, she once reflected on how her parents managed to give her space but still set clear boundaries. 'My parents are a weird combination. They are very liberal where my work is concerned but at the same time, they believe in discipline," she said.
She shared that if she had an early shoot the next day, her parents expected her to avoid late-night parties or drinking. 'When I was young, I always wanted to go out, but my mother wouldn't allow me saying that I was shooting the next day. I feel they are strict for the right reason." On being asked who was stricter, Sonam said, 'They always act as a unit. So if one is strict, the other one tries to calm things down."
She also opened up about dating and how open she was with her parents. 'Of course! My parents would be completely fine if I am dating someone." However, she made it clear that her parents set some traditional boundaries. 'They wouldn't allow my boyfriends to stay over at my place or go on a holiday with me."
Opening up on her conservative nature, she added, 'I don't have a reputation of having boyfriends. I am quite conservative so I don't think they would have to tell me what to do."
Sonam Kapoor married businessman Anand Ahuja in May 2018 in a lavish ceremony in Mumbai. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Vayu, in November 2022.
On the professional front, Sonam Kapoor had a good run in Bollywood with hits like Raanjhanaa and Neerja. Sonam was last seen in the 2023 crime-thriller 'Blind,' a remake of the 2011 Korean film of the same name. Directed by Shome Makhija and produced by Sujoy Ghosh, the film marked Sonam's return to the screen after a six-year career break following The Zoya Factor. It ranked low compared to other releases in the first half of this year, with 5.3 million views, according to Netflix's semiannual report. 'Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within," a documentary short film that centres on a small orphanage in Uganda's Masaka region, is also set to release this year. Archewell is also in production with Netflix on a feature adaptation of Carley Fortune's novel 'Meet Me at the Lake." The drama 'follows a decade-spanning love story that begins with a chance encounter and a broken promise," the statement read. 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere. Actor Piloo Vidyarthi has shared her disappointment after learning that a large portion of her role in 'Sarzameen', directed by Kayoze Irani, was removed from the final cut of the film. Speaking to News18, Piloo reflected on the performance of rookie actor Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. While she praised his kind nature, she noted that he still has a long way to go in terms of acting depth. 'Acting depends on your life experiences—how you have lived your life," she reflected. 'He was very nice to me, clicked photos. But I think he needs to have some depth. Star kids are also under a lot of pressure to live up to their parents. And Ibrahim comes from a family of big achievers. They have seen attention since forever. No one is bad," she said. In the same interview, Piloo revealed that nearly 80% of her scenes were left out. 'They didn't retain even 20% of what was shot,' she said. 'I was disappointed, so I'm not promoting the film. Yes, we can talk about it since it has released, but I wasn't used at all.' She also commented on the film's structure and direction. 'The makers have gone wrong somewhere because the director struggled to piece together the narrative,' she said. 'Beech mein main phas gayi hoon, na sar hai na zameen hai,' she added, using a Hindi phrase that means she felt stuck and confused by the end result. Piloo, who had prepared seriously for her part, added that it was upsetting to see her efforts reduced to almost nothing. 'These things happen in our journey, so that's okay. But yes, it's disappointing when you prepare for a role, and it's reduced to nothing.' Sarzameen has faced criticism since its release, and Piloo's comments have now added to the conversation around the film's production choices and performances.
