New entry onto Redstone Arsenal ‘one step closer'

Yahoo15-04-2025

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — If you work on Redstone Arsenal and are tired of spending part of your morning commute in traffic, we have some good news! The City of Huntsville says it is 'one step closer' to bringing a new interchange to fruition.
It is planning for a new interchange that would connect drivers on Madison Blvd. and I-565 to Gate 9 via a new extension of Resolute Way. This would allow drivers coming from west of the Arsenal to bypass Exit 14 and the intersection of 255/Research Park Blvd.
Owens Cross Roads Council schedules another hearing regarding mental health center's business license
'It's a project we've been working on for almost five years now,' said Huntsville's Director of Engineering, Kathy Martin.
The interchange would create a shortcut of sorts for commuters traveling west to east.
'What folks that are on Madison Blvd. or Governors West or I-565 Eastbound can do is take this new Resolute Interchange through the Redstone Gateway that would lead them closer to gate 9,' Martin said.
While plans for the new interchange are not finalized, the City of Huntsville provided News 19 with this 'preliminary' look.
Resolute Way is currently a small street within the Redstone Gateway area near Gate 9 and the Redstone Arsenal Visitor's Center. The interchange would connect to Resolute Way via a new road from the Madison Blvd./565 on-ramp.
Courtland Town Council votes to revoke mental health center's business license
The land where this interchange would be built is on the Arsenal and owned by the Federal Government. Back in March, the Huntsville City Council voted to move forward with a land-use agreement to start the process of obtaining that land for the project.
Martin told News 19 that this is a great step for this project. However, there is still a lot of work to be done before construction begins.
'I think the next step after the land transfer is complete is we'll go back to the state and the feds to get some funding for design,' Martin said.
Martin said in addition to relieving some congestion from Rideout Road, it will also 'improve safety.'
Martin said the Engineering Department is also working on an East Connector Project that would relieve some congestion for people who enter Redstone Arsenal at Gates 8 and 10 off of Patton Road.
She told News 19 that that project is not as far along as the Resolute Way Interchange.
'It's not moving as quickly as this one,' she said. 'Pretty much the same thing. it is going to involve quite a bit of involvement from Redstone Arsenal as well as the adjacent land owners, so we are working with them as well.'

Warehouse, hotel construction lift commercial planning

This story was originally published on Construction Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Construction Dive newsletter. Nonresidential construction planning rebounded in May after a slow April, as a sharp uptick in institutional project activity helped drive overall growth, according to Dodge Construction Network. The Dodge Momentum Index, a benchmark that tracks nonresidential construction planning and leads actual spending by a full year, increased 3.7% in May. Institutional planning surged 10.5%, led by education and recreational facilities, while commercial planning inched up 0.8%, according to the report. 'Nonresidential planning continued to accelerate in May, primarily driven by strong project activity on the institutional side of the DMI,' said Sarah Martin, associate director of forecasting at Dodge Construction Network. 'Planning momentum moderately improved on the commercial side as well, following subdued growth in that sector over the last few months.' Data center planning, which fueled most commercial gains, returned to more typical levels in May, according to Dodge. Martin added that 'increased economic and policy uncertainty' will likely persist in the near term, though said the current pipeline remains stable. Within the commercial sector, stronger activity in warehouse and hotel planning helped offset the slow pace in the office and retail categories, according to the report. On the institutional side, a surge in education and recreation projects led the gains, though healthcare planning dipped slightly. Nevertheless, planning activity remains far ahead of last year's pace, according to Dodge. The index jumped 24% compared to May 2024, with institutional planning up 47% and commercial planning up 15%. However, if the data excludes all data center projects between 2023 and 2025, commercial planning would have grown 4% over the year, and the total DMI would be up 17%, according to Dodge. A total of 33 projects valued at $100 million or more entered planning in May. Major commercial projects included: The $486 million Evolve Energy Partners data center in Warrenton, Missouri. The $366 million LEGO warehouse and distribution facility in Prince George, Virginia. The $330 million Summit Crossing data center in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The largest institutional projects to enter planning included: The $500 million Honda Center renovation in Anaheim, California. The $238 million phase 2 of the Sterling Bay Pacific Center research and development building in San Diego, California. The $201 million patient tower at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Airstream's Frank Lloyd Wright Trailer Envisions 'Usonian' Design On-the-Go

Airstreamhas partnered with theFrank Lloyd Wright Foundationto create a limited-edition travel trailer inspired by the late American architect. Accepting orders today, the 28-foot 'Usonian' trailer will be made in only 200 units over the next two years. Frank Lloyd Wright's distinct philosophy of an organic American architecture comes to life in the inspired design, featuring wooden interior finishes, an abundance of natural light, and elegant functionality. Throughout, echoes of Wright's 'Usonian' design language come to life, evoking his 20th-century vision of efficient small footprints and bringing nature indoors. Initial inspiration was provided by a rare 1939 design for a mobile kitchen by Wright that was never physically built, but highlighted the designer's early concepts of mobile architecture. Wright's 1955 Martin-Senour Paint collection also served as a primary reference for the desert-inspired color palette, including mustard yellow, deep red, earthy ochre, turquoise, blue, and green. To allow for ease of movement and abundant sunlight, the overhead storage was relocated, accommodating 29 windows — including two glass skylights. The trailer also includes two circular porthole windows, referencing Wright's later embrace of circular elements and Airstream's dedication to aerodynamic design. Inside the rear hatch is the modular sleeping area, featuring two twin beds that can be combined into a king-size bed and serve as a lounge area. A convertible dinette and desk both fold down to create small-space efficiency at the front, opening the area for living or transforming the sofa for an additional sleeping area. The design is topped off with a custom slatted ceiling fixture that spans the trailer, enhancing the effect of the skylights through dynamic light and shadow. The Airstream Frank Lloyd Wright Special Edition Travel Trailer is available now from Airstream's nationwide dealer network, with pricing starting at $184,900 USD MSRP.
