Kinder and Grade 1 students from the province of Maguindanao Del Norte received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to Mel Tiangco's report in "24 Oras" on Monday, students received school supplies such as bags, notebooks, papers, and pens through the foundation's Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Project.
"Ang GMA Kapuso Foundation, tumutulong talaga sa mga magulang para maitaguyod ang edukasyon ng kanilang mga anak. Alam kong napakahirap bumili ng kumpletong school supplies lalo na sa panahon ngayon," Kapuso Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rikki Escudero-Catibog.
"Lubos akong nagpapasalamat sa GMA Kapuso Foundation dahil nabawasan 'yung aking problema. Meron nang gamit ang anak ko sa eskwelehan," said Noraisa Dicasaran Duma, a mother of one of the students.

Marcos wants 'Mt. Kamuning' footbridge replaced, says DOTr chief

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the replacement of the NIA-Southroad-Scout Borromeo footbridge, which was given the moniker "Mt. Kamuning" footbridge due to its height, according to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon. In Joseph Morong's exclusive report on '24 Oras' on Wednesday, pedestrians were out of breath every time they used the footbridge due to its height. A group of friends also created a tradition where they 'hike' the footbridge in full gear every April Fool's Day. A US-based consul general of the Netherlands also criticized the footbridge, saying that it is proof that pedestrians are neglected. According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the height of the footbridge is equivalent to four to five floors of a building. The footbridge is dark at night, while it is slippery during the rainy season. When Dizon used the footbridge, he noticed that it was shaky. 'May dumadaan pong vehicle sa baba, me ground vibration dun, yung nagko-cause ng uga pero generally safe naman. Hindi naman po tutumba,' Joshua Rodriguez of DOTr said. (It was shaky because a vehicle passed through. There was vibration, but it is generally safe.) 'It doesn't feel safe,' Dizon countered. In 2018, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) constructed the P10-million footbridge since there were many reported accidents and robberies in the area. Marcos observed the footbridge during the launching of the Pamilya Pass at MRT-3 over the weekend. 'Tear it down and build a better one,' Dizon said, pertaining to the President's order. 'Alam nyang deka-dekada nang ganito, eh ayusin naman natin para sa ating mga kababayan para madali (he knows it has been a long-time problem, so let us fix it for our countrymen's convenience),' he added. "Mt. Kamuning will be replaced with a lower footbridge that has an elevator. It will be placed at the EDSA Bus Carousel Kamuning Station. 'Ang pinakamadaling paglilipatan para isahan na rin dun na sa busway stop natin (that would be the most convenient location since the busway could also use it),' Dizon said. The construction is expected to begin this year. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News

3,000 students in Maguindanao del Norte receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Three thousand students in Maguindanao del Norte received school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project. According to a "24 Oras" report on Wednesday, among the beneficiaries of the project is Omaymah, a student from Datu Blah Sinsuat. Omaymah's parents Dadang and Maula Bandon accompany their child to school, as they have to cross a river to get there. "Sabi ko wala man kaming maibigay sa inyo na may pabaon, may pamana, kahit ito man lang pag-aaral masuportahan namin kayo. Tumatawid po kami kahit po malakas ang alon, malakas ang baha," said Dadang. Dadang works as a sweeper in a resort, while her husband Maula works as a fisherman and also sidelines as a carpenter. The couple is working extra hard because Omaymah is set to enter Grade 1. "Sa ngayon mahirap kasi kulang talaga ang isda, panahon ng walang isda. Mahirap ngayon tag-ulan malaki ang alon hindi ka makalaot," said Maula. Through the Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project, GMA Kapuso Foundation was able to distribute complete school supplies to 3,000 kindergarten and Grade 1 students in Maguindanao del Norte. "Ito po ay napakalaking tulong po sa amin lalong-lalo na dito sa mga areas na hindi gaano kaswerte 'yung mga estudyante sa mga bagay, kaya malaking tulong po ang GMA Kapuso Foundation sa lugar," said First Lieutenant Sweet Faith F. Villados PN (M), civil military operations officer of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-6. For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee.
