The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has enhanced the auto-settlement limit for advance claims from ₹1 lakh at present to ₹5 lakh. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told reporters here on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) that the move will help lakhs of EPFO members to receive funds faster, especially in times of urgent need.
The Minister said the EPFO had first introduced auto-settlement of advance claims during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide quick financial assistance to members. 'Since then the facility has been extended to cover advance claims for illness, education, marriage, and housing purposes. These claims are processed automatically by the system without any human involvement, ensuring quick turnaround and transparency,' he said.
He said the EPFO had taken a series of reforms to make EPFO services faster, transparent and user-friendly. Mr. Mandaviya added that in 2024–25, EPFO processed a record 2.34 crore advance claims through auto-settlement, a 161% increase compared to 89.52 lakh claims in 2023–24.
'Notably, 59% of all advance claims in 2024–25 were settled through the auto mode as compared to 31% in 2023-24. Further, in just the first 2.5 months of FY 2025–26, EPFO has already auto-settled 76.52 lakh claims, constituting70% of all advance claims settled so far,' he said.
Increase in Social Protection Coverage
The Minister claimed that the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has appreciated the efforts of Narendra Modi Government to expand social security network. 'ILO acknowledged India's achievement and officially published on its dashboard that 64.3% of India's population, i.e. over 94 crore people, are now covered under at least one social protection benefit. In 2015, this figure was just 19%. In terms of beneficiary count, India now ranks second in the world, providing social protection to around 94 crore citizens,' he said adding that the Director General of the ILO praised India's focused welfare policies for the poor and labour class.

At House panel meet, questions on why no FIR after cash seizure at judge's residence
From judges attending ideological meetings to the demand for FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma to judges not following code of conduct rules, the Parliamentary Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice discussed a wide range of issues at a meeting on Tuesday. Among the most asked questions by the committee members was why an FIR was not registered against Justice Yashwant Varma after allegations of cash being found at his official residence. Cash was found at the residence of Justice Varma in Delhi when a fire broke out there on March 14. Justice Varma was indicted by the in-house inquiry on May 8. The government has initiated the process for bringing an impeachment motion against Justice Varma during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. It is learnt that a member also suggested that the 1991 judgment in 'K Veeraswami vs Union of India' case should be relooked and if judges are involved in wrongdoings, they should face an FIR. The Department of Justice Secretary is learnt to have told the panel members that he will get back regarding the demand for an FIR against Justice Varma. The issue of Justice Shekhar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court against whom Rajya Sabha members have moved an impeachment notice also came up. One member wanted to know what action had been taken against Justice Yadav by the CJI. In December last year, Justice Yadav, a sitting judge of Allahabad High Court, had made questionable remarks on Muslim marriage practices and backed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) while speaking at a VHP event. An impeachment notice was submitted by 54 Rajya Sabha MPs against Justice Yadav. At Tuesday's meeting of the committee chaired by BJP MP Brij Lal, another member was said to have suggested that judges should have a cooling off period of five years after retirement during which they shouldn't be allowed to take up any kind of job or work, or political assignments or contest elections. Another member also suggested an increase in the retirement age of judges and that they should get a better salary and pension. The agenda of Tuesday's meeting was to discuss the code of conduct for judges of higher judiciary. Delayed by 5 years, Manesar sewage plant enters final phase, will be ready soon
Gurgaon: The construction of a 25 MLD ( million litres per day) sewage treatment plant (STP) in Manesar is in its final stages and is expected to be completed soon, GMDA officials said on Tuesday. Once operational, the STP will significantly improve sewage management in Manesar, Naharpur Kasan and nearby villages by treating domestic waste using the Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) process, a modern cyclic wastewater treatment technology. At present, untreated sewage from these areas collects in an open pond, raising serious environmental and public health concerns. Once the plant becomes functional, waste will be channelled through a 1,200mm-diameter sewer line to the facility. "The pipeline between Manesar and Naharpur Kasan had already been laid earlier by the public health engineering department (PHED). Of the 1.4 km, around 250 metres is pending, and we expect to complete the remaining work in the next 15 days," an MCM official said. A GMDA official confirmed that finishing work at the plant site is underway. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! The project has faced multiple delays since its inception. Initially, it was assigned to PHED but could not be executed due to unavailability of land. In 2020, GMDA took over as the executing agency under a deposit work arrangement. Tendering began in July 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, pushing the timeline significantly. The Rs 31.8-crore project was initially slated for completion by 2022. After that, a prolonged administrative impasse further slowed progress, as PHED disagreed over cost-sharing responsibilities following the formation of the Municipal Corporation of Manesar in 2020. Though official estimates suggest that the villages have a population of around 50,000, locals say the number is closer to 1.5 lakh, with a large migrant population. Residents have long demanded a proper sewage management system to address public health and sanitation issues.

EPFO increases auto-settlement limit to Rs 5 lakh
The Employee provident fund officer (EPFO) has increased the auto-settlement limit for advance claims from existing Rs1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, enabling members to receive higher funds in time of need. EPFO had first introduced auto-settlement of advance claims during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide quick financial assistance to members. Since then the facility has been extended to cover advance claims for illness, education, marriage, and housing purposes. These claims are processed automatically by the system without any human involvement, ensuring quick turnaround and transparency. This step is part of EPFO's broader push to improve service delivery by using technology, said a labour ministry statement. With the elevated limit of Rs 5 lakhs, additional advance claims will now qualify for auto-settlement, leading to their processing within three days of submission. This enhanced limit and faster access to funds will help members get timely financial support when they need it the most. In 2024–25, EPFO achieved a significant milestone by successfully processing a record 2.34 crore advance claims through auto-settlement, reflecting a sharp increase of 161% over the previous year. Around 59% of all advance claims in 2024–25 were settled through the auto mode. Continuing this upward trajectory, in the first two and a half months of FY 2025–26, EPFO has already auto-settled 76.52 lakh claims, constituting around 70% of all advance claims settled so far. This growth highlights EPFO's strong focus on automation and delivering faster, more efficient services to its members. The labour ministry in a statement said that the move reaffirms the government's commitment to enhance ease of access for EPFO members. It said that the EPFO will continue to leverage technology and process simplification to ensure a seamless and efficient service experience. These reforms have not only accelerated the claim settlement process but have also contributed to minimising member grievances, further enhancing ease of living for the member.
