Time of India5 days ago
Chandigarh: In a chilling turn of events last Friday, a routine walk home turned into a nightmare for a Class-11 student in Chandigarh's Sector 50. The victim, critically injured in a brutal stabbing, now battles for his life at PGI — the victim of a violent fallout from a school washroom brawl.

The attackers? Two juveniles, now in police custody, who allegedly ambushed Shivam around 2:15 pm, armed with knives and riding a Splendor motorcycle. The motive: revenge. The method: ruthless.
The Sector 49 police launched a full-scale investigation, scouring footage from over 110 CCTV cameras and digging through offender records. What they uncovered was a trail of tension that began days earlier inside school walls — and ended in blood on the streets.
The scene was first discovered by a neighbour, Nandini, who ran to inform victim's father, Sunil Kumar, a tailor by profession. Rushing to the spot with a taxi driver, Sunil found his son bleeding profusely near the dividing road between Sector 49 and 50. The victim, barely conscious, named his attackers — three unknown boys on a two-wheeler who tried to kill him.
Police later recovered a dagger knife, a motorcycle, a stone, and the clothes worn by the juveniles — grim evidence of a premeditated attack.

Sheikhpura man held for brutal dowry assault after love marriage

P atna: In a shocking case of domestic violence and dowry harassment, a man from Sheikhpura was arrested on Sunday for allegedly torturing his wife following their love marriage. The accused, Shivam Kumar (24), allegedly assaulted his wife, cut her hair and shaved her eyebrows with a blade while demanding a dowry. The 20-year-old victim had married Shivam at a temple in Jamui on April 10 this year. The couple enjoyed a harmonious relationship for the first month, but tensions soon escalated when Shivam and his family allegedly began pressuring her for a dowry of Rs 5 lakh. Estranged from her own family after eloping, the woman was unable to meet the demands, leading to repeated abuse. The situation reached a breaking point on June 20 when Shivam allegedly attempted to kill her. The woman managed to escape and lodged a complaint at the women's police station the same day. Following her report, police launched a manhunt and arrested Shivam in Lakhisarai on Sunday. A police officer said, "The victim's ordeal began when she met Shivam through social media one year ago. Women's police station in-charge Anamika Kumari said, "The victim met Shivam through social media a year ago. They started talking and, six months later, began meeting each other. Both informed their families about the relationship. The girl's family opposed it and refused to accept the relationship." Distressed by her family's disapproval, the young woman eloped and married Shivam at a temple in the Sikandra police station area in Jamui. She then moved in with Shivam's family in Sheikhpura, who initially accepted her. "All was well for about a month," Kumari said. "However, at the beginning of June, her husband and in-laws began demanding ₹5 lakh as dowry. The woman told them that she had severed ties with her family, who had stopped speaking to her after she ran away. She asked how she could possibly provide the money. In response, her in-laws began verbally abusing her," she added. Disputes over the dowry increased between the couple. On June 20, in a fit of rage, Shivam allegedly beat her severely. "Not satisfied, her husband then cut her hair with scissors and shaved her eyebrows with a blade. Terrified by this behaviour, she managed to escape from her in-laws' house and reached the women's police station, where she filed a complaint. She then returned to her parental home in Nawada," the station in-charge added. Shivam is set to be presented before the court on July 28.

A Class 12 student was allegedly attacked with iron rods, knives, and bricks by a group of individuals, including a classmate, outside his school in Sector 40-D on July 17. The victim, a student of Sharda Sarvhitkari Senior Secondary School, was ambushed near the school parking area around 12.45 pm, according to a complaint filed by his father. The incident reportedly stemmed from an altercation a day prior, police said, when the victim allegedly slapped his classmate in class. (iStock) The incident reportedly stemmed from an altercation a day prior, police said, when the victim allegedly slapped his classmate in class. The classmate then reportedly threatened the victim, stating, 'I will see you outside the school.' On July 17, after classes concluded, the victim's path was blocked by a group of 'outsider boys' armed with iron rods and knives. They confronted him about the dispute with his classmate. When the victim stated there was no fight, the assailants began their attack, shouting to use bricks and declaring he 'should not escape today.' The boy was hit on the head, forcing him to flee back into the school for safety. The attackers then fled the scene on a Yamaha R-15 and a Hero Splendor motorcycle, issuing further threats. Shockingly, three days later, on July 20, one of the accused, accompanied by other boys carrying baseball sticks, attempted a second attack at the victim's residence in Dadumajra. However, they fled when a crowd gathered, leaving their Splendor motorcycle behind. The victim's family immediately contacted the police. Personnel from Maloya Police Station arrived, seized the abandoned motorcycle, and recorded statements. Following the father's written complaint and verification of CCTV footage from the school vicinity, the police on Thursday registered an FIR under Sections 115(2), 126(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The complaint names the classmate and four to five unidentified boys in connection with the assault.
