How many Oscars did 'Dune: Part Two' win? See how sci-fi epic fared at 2025 Academy Awards

USA Today03-03-2025

Sci-fi epic "Dune: Part Two," directed by Denis Villeneuve, was thrust back into the national spotlight Sunday night, winning two Oscars at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
"Dune: Part Two" was in running for the night's biggest prize – best picture – alongside "Anora," "A Complete Unknown," "Conclave," "I'm Still Here," "The Substance," "Dune: Part Two" and "Nickel Boys." "Anora" ultimately won that award.
USA TODAY's Brian Truitt gave the film three and a half stars out of four, saying that the "sci-fi epic gets it right the second time around."
"Even though it snagged six Oscars (and a best picture nomination), the previous 'Dune' was a mixed bag with lackluster storytelling – even David Lynch's crazypants 1984 adaptation was a more entertaining exercise," Truitt wrote. "But 'Part Two' rights the cosmic battleship with plenty of staggering visuals, all the gigantic sandworms you'd ever want, plus a deeper thematic exploration of power, colonialism and religion."

Kelly Ripa says she ate like her husband for 3 days to help fit into her Oscars dress

It turns out that all Kelly Ripa needed to do to fit into her Oscars dress was eat like Mark Consuelos for three days. On Monday's episode of " Live with Kelly and Mark," Ripa spoke about how she struggled to fit into her gown for the Academy Awards "So right before the Academy Awards, I was having trouble getting my dress zipped up the side. It was a side-zip dress, and I kept getting zipped into the dress," Ripa said. "I don't know if any women have experienced having your side skin sipped into your dress. It is a punishing thing." To help Ripa get red carpet-ready, Consuelos suggested she follow his high-protein diet. "It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing," Ripa said. "I just find, you're like, way too disciplined. I can't live that way." But she didn't mind giving it a shot if it's just "for 72 hours," Ripa said, adding that some of the foods she ate included steak, yoghurt, and vegetables. "I didn't love it, because I'm not big on animal protein. I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin," Ripa said. "And I looked super fit. Super, super fit. So thank you for that." Consuelos added that increasing protein should go hand-in-hand with meeting daily fiber needs. "It's crucial for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic disease such as diabetes," Consuelos said. Protein helps build lean muscle mass, boosts immunity, and is good for weight loss. The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, published by the United States Department of Agriculture, recommend 14 grams of dietary fiber for every 1,000 calories consumed. This amounts to 22 to 28 grams daily for adult women and 28 to 34 grams daily for adult men, depending on their age range. Dietitians previously told Business Insider that salmon, shrimp, and black beans are high-protein foods that can be beneficial to include in a weight-loss diet. Eating a lot of protein isn't usually harmful, but it can mean you're not getting enough of other important nutrients. "Most athletes that I talk to are eating too much protein because they think eating more protein means building more muscle," sports dietitian Nancy Clark told BI. "It's actually the carbs that fuel muscle. All the protein they're eating displaces the carbs that are needed to fuel the muscles."

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' 'Eerie' Favorite TV Show Revealed in Trial

Earlier Tuesday, June 10, Sean "Diddy" Combs suffered another loss in court when a judge denied his legal team's attempt to declare a mistrial. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected arguments from Combs' defense that focused on testimony from Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, a close friend of Combs' ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura Fine. It was Combs' team's second attempt to declare a mistrial in the sex crimes case. Later in the trial on Tuesday, Combs' ex-girlfriend "Jane," testifying under a pseudonym, revealed under cross-examination that she "endured" nights in hotels with escorts because she wanted to spend time with Combs revealing nightly duties included bathing him, rubbing his feet, cuddling with him and watching his favorite TV show. "I felt loved by him because we experienced these things together," she said, via USA Today. In her testimony "Jane" revealed his favorite TV show true-crime franchise Dateline, which USA Today claimed as "eerie." The series features main host Lester Holt, who previously told USA Today that the show's stories are "relatable" because "you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours." "A lot of the people in these stories were good people, up until the moment they weren't, or they were living normal lives like ours and then one day they became a victim of something really horrible," Holt said Combs faces five criminal counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in 'Diddy' Combs' 'Eerie' Favorite TV Show Revealed in Trial first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

When is the strawberry moon visible in NY? See peak times, cloud forecast for full moon

June welcomes a rare strawberry moon. The strawberry moon will reach its peak on Wednesday, June 11, at 3:44 a.m. ET, NASA said. However, the moon will dazzle backyard astronomers everywhere in the evening on Tuesday, June 10, as this will be the best time to see the spectacle as it rises during dusk, according to LiveScience. In areas where the weather permits, the moon will appear a shade of red or orange. Though the moon will be full, it might appear 14% smaller and 30% dimmer, a phenomenon known as a micromoon. According to NASA, this occurs when the celestial body is at its farthest point from Earth. According to the Almanac, the "strawberry moon" name derives from the Native American Algonquian tribes, who lived in the northwestern United States. The Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota tribes also used the name, which marked the wild strawberries in June. Here is everything you should know about this rare moon. The full moon will be at its peak on Wednesday, June 11, at 3:44 a.m. ET. Since the moon is going to be at its peak so early during the day, the best time to see it is the evening before, on Tuesday, June 10, according to USA TODAY's previous reporting. On Tuesday, June 10, some parts of the U.S. are expected to have clouds, while the majority of the country is forecast to have clear skies, according to the National Weather Service. The strawberry moon will be low in the sky, so it is best to go to a location where you can see the eastern horizon at a low angle. The moon will be one of the lowest in the sky, and the moonlight will reflect the Earth's atmosphere, giving it a yellow or orange tint. The following dates list out the rest of the expected full moons in 2025: July 10- Buck Moon Aug. 9- Sturgeon Moon Sept. 7- Harvest Moon Oct. 6- Hunter's Moon Nov. 5- Beaver Moon Dec. 4- Cold Moon Contributing: Janet Loehrke & Carlie Procell/ USA TODAY Julia is a trending reporter for USA TODAY.
