Indian Railways Kavach system deployment progress: Check latest update on Automatic Train Protection system
Indian Railways Kavach technology aids the Loco Pilot in running of trains within specified speed limits by automatic application of brakes in case Loco Pilot fails to do so and also helps the trains to run safely during inclement weather.
The Kavach technology is being implemented in a phased manner. In the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha sought details from Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on the current status of Kavach installation, budget allocated, and cost incurred till date. He also requested the minister to provide information related to timeline for completion of Kavach installation across the country and the estimated total cost for the same.
Responding to this, Vaishnaw on August 1 said that the first field trials on the passenger trains were started in February 2016. 'Based on the experience gained and Independent Safety Assessment of the system by Independent Safety Assessor (ISA), three firms were approved in 2018-19, for supply of Kavach Ver 3.2.
Based on deployment of Kavach version 3.2 on 1465 RKm (Route km) on south central Railway, a lot of experience was gained. Using that further improvements were made. Finally, Kavach specification version 4.0 was approved by RDSO on 16.07.2024,' he said.
The minister added that railways has planned large-scale deployment of Kavach version 4.0. 'After extensive and elaborate trials in 324 kms of Mathura-Kota section for advance version of Kavach 4.0, this section is approved by Independent Safety Assessor (ISA). This is also the first section to be approved by ISA. Kavach Version 4.0 has been commissioned over Kota–Mathura section covering 324 Route Kilometers on 30.07.2025,' Vaishnaw said.
Progress of key items comprising Kavach system on Indian Railways up to July 14, 2025 is as under:-

Vaishnaw further said: 'The cost for provision of Track Side including Station equipment of Kavach is
approximately Rs. 50 Lakhs/Km and cost for provision of Kavach equipment on locomotives is approximately Rs. 80 Lakh/Loco.
'The funds utilised on Kavach works so far up to June 2025 is Rs 2,015 crore. The allocation of funds during the year 2025-26 is Rs 1,673.19 crore. Requisite funds are made available as per the progress of works.'

MCD aims to inaugurate multilevel shuttle car parking facility at greater kailash this month
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi plans to inaugurate its multilevel shuttle car parking facility at M Block Market in Greater Kailash I by the month-end. All civil and electrical works have been completed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now There are 18 trees that have to be removed and MCD expects permission to chop them down to come within a week from the forest department. "These trees, located along the periphery of the parking area, need to be removed to create a 6-metre space for the movement of emergency vehicles, in accordance with building norms," said an MCD official. "After clearing the trees, the fire services no-objection will be sought." The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 63.7 crore, consists of a shuttle or robo parker style parking which involves using automated systems and robots to park and retrieve vehicles. It is space-efficient and convenient. The facility, equipped with four lifts, will be fully automatic with no manual intervention. Built on a 2,240 sqm plot, the parking has the ground floor and eight floors above it, offering space to park 399 cars. While the construction began three years ago, MCD sought permission to fell the trees over a year ago. The civic body received anticipatory approval from the fire service and continued the work. "The footfall at the market is heavy most of the time. It is common to see many vehicles parked on the roadsides, leading to inconvenience to others," said a local resident. "To resolve the problem, construction of the parking lot was taken up on a portion of the surface parking site and work began in March 2022 with an 18-month deadline but it was breached in Sept 2023. " Since the project is taking time to finish, the shop owners have requested opening up space for a few cars to park. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to an official, under the project terms, the concessionaire building the facility will operate and maintain the automated shuttle parking at the market for 10 years and transfer 70% of the money collected as parking fees to MCD. The municipal corporation pointed out that stack and puzzle parking lots can accommodate a larger number of vehicles within a compact space compared with other parking types. Moreover, they can be assembled more quickly and developed at a lower cost than conventional parking facilities. In such projects, the concessionaire responsible for constructing the parking lot can operate it for a minimum of one year.

New chip research centre to open at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation in Chandigarh in 2 years
Chandigarh: In a move to boost India's presence in the global semiconductor market, a new research centre is slated to open at the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) in Chandigarh in two years. The foundation stone for the "Opto Microelectronic Research Centre," a first-of-its-kind facility in the country, was laid on Tuesday by Dr N Kalaiselvi, director-general, CSIR. The establishment of this centre is a direct initiative under the "India Semiconductor Mission," a govt programme launched in Dec 2021 with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. The mission aims to provide financial support for investments in semiconductor fabrication, display manufacturing, and chip design to strengthen India's electronics value chains. The new centre is specifically designed to bolster the country's capability in semiconductor packaging, a critical "back-end" manufacturing process. The project is structured with a phased timeline. The initial three years will focus on mini-displays assembly, testing, marking, and packaging. In the near term, it will focus on developing and perfecting mini-displays for smart devices and car dashboards, a critical segment of the electronics market. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Become Fluent in Any Language Talkpal AI Undo As the project matures, the focus will shift to pioneering advanced mini-LED technology. "The ultimate goal is to achieve complete indigenisation of high-tech components, culminating in the creation of a fully Indian-made 'head-up display', a futuristic technology that projects vital information directly into a user's line of sight," said a senior scientist at the CSIO. This initiative is part of a broader push to grow India's semiconductor market, which was valued at approximately $38 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $100–110 billion by 2030. New rly under bridge to ease traffic at Darrah Nullah
Jaipur: Relief is finally in sight for commuters who endured years of traffic congestion at Darrah Nullah on the Kota–Jhalawar National Highway (NH-52). The Central govt granted administrative and financial approval for the construction of a new Railway Under Bridge (RUB) near Arch Bridge No. 148, between Kanwarpura and Darrah railway stations. The project, estimated to cost Rs 9.98 crore, will be executed by the West Central Railway as a deposit work. The RUB will be constructed at KM 297.7 on NH-52 and is expected to significantly ease traffic flow between Kota and Jhalawar. Construction is scheduled to begin shortly, with targeted completion within stipulated timeframe. The eight-km stretch through Darrah Nullah — a narrow, single-lane passage wedged between the broader four-lane highway — long posed a serious threat to commuters, with frequent accidents, prolonged traffic jams, and seasonal waterlogging. Rajesh Soni, a frequent traveller, said, "Traffic on this route increased as it connects Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Heavy vehicle movement is common, and traffic jams lasting up to 12 hours have been reported here." Despite the commencement of toll collection at Mandana and Bheed Mandi (Rs 165 and Rs 85, respectively), no structural improvements were made. Agencies including the NHAI, PWD, and the forest department continued shifting responsibility. Since the stretch falls within the Mukundra Tiger Reserve, the forest department raised objections to any major construction without proper clearance. A four-lane elevated road was earlier proposed but failed to gain approval .
