Cops track bikers after viral highway crash
BENTONG: Three motorcyclists riding high-powered bikes lost control and skidded at Km43 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway yesterday, resulting in a crash.
Footage captured from the helmet camera of one of the riders showed the motorcyclist ahead falling off his machine whilst negotiating a bend along the stretch.
Upon stopping his motorbike by the roadside shoulder, he realised that a second motorcyclist had fallen off his bike, with the motorcycle crashing into the metal road barrier.
Moments later, a third rider suffered a similar fate.
However, the injuries sustained by the three riders could not be determined in the viral video which was uploaded on Instagram.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said in a statement today that police received a one-minute, 20-second video clip on social media regarding the accident involving three motorcycles.
"Investigations revealed the incident occurred about 9.45am yesterday (April 27). The high-powered bikers, believed to be part of a convoy, had lost control of their machines, slipped and skidded into the drain on the roadside shoulder.
"Police managed to track down one of the riders who sustained injuries to his right leg and are in the midst of identifying two others to provide their statement on the incident," he said.
Zaiham said police were investigating the incident under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. If convicted, offenders can face a fine of up to RM10,000 and be liable to imprisonment for up to 12 months.
He urged witnesses with information on the accident to come forward to assist police investigations.

Over 100,000 Malaysian IP addresses linked to child porn site access
KUALA LUMPUR: A crime analyst has voiced concern over the rise in the number of Malaysian Internet Protocol (IP) addresses found to be accessing pornography, including that involving minors. Shahul Hamid Abd Rahim said police data released last year indicated that over 100,000 Malaysian IP addresses had accessed child pornography websites. This is a sharp rise from the 17,000 Malaysian IPs found to have accessed child pornography websites in 2015. "Additionally, about 50 per cent of children aged between 13 and 15 had connected with offenders through the WeChat app several years ago," he said. He said this indicated that child grooming was no longer an isolated issue and needed to be tackled. Shahul said he believed the actual figure was higher, as the police data only showed registered IPs. "There are methods to bypass actual IPs," he said, adding this included using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

Body of pedestrian flung into river found near Jalan Ipoh crash site
KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a pedestrian who fell into a river after being hit by an out-of-control car along Jalan Ipoh, heading towards the Kepong roundabout, was found this morning. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the victim, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was found about 150 metres from the crash site at 7.30am. "The body has been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem. "The case has now been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving," he said in a statement today. It was earlier reported that the pedestrian was feared drowned after being struck by a car and falling into the river along Jalan Ipoh. The incident, which occurred at about 11.45am yesterday, involved a Nissan Sylphy driven by a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man from the direction of the Batu Muda People's Housing Project (PPR). The vehicle is believed to have gone out of control. Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it had mobilised its rescue squad to carry out high-risk technical work to retrieve the vehicle from the river, as part of an operation to locate the missing victim. Working alongside the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Force, the DBKL team provided technical support to lift the vehicle and assist the search operation.

Lorryman fined RM6,000 over infrastructure damage
JOHOR BARU: A lorry driver was fined RM6,000 by the Magistrate's Court after pleading guilty to reckless driving that resulted in significant damage to public infrastructure. Chew Ah Sing, 69, was charged with driving negligently along KM30.7 of Jalan Johor Baru-Gelang Patah-Pendas at about 3.20pm on June 10. According to the charge sheet, he drove the lorry without lowering the raised tipper bucket, causing it to strike overhead electrical cables and damage three electric poles, a traffic light pole, a CCTV and a bus stand. The offence was framed under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable with a jail term not exceeding 12 months and a fine of RM5,000 to RM10,000, upon conviction. Chew pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him in Mandarin. He was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Sharmaine Fairuz Mohd Zulkifli, who asked the court for a lower fine. 'He is supporting his wife and a child who is still studying,' she said, adding that it was also his first offence. Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid imposed the fine in default of four months' jail and ordered that his driving licence be suspended.
