Behind Kelsey Mitchell's career high, Indiana Fever pick up massive win
Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever season has not gone like she and the organization had planned. Clark has played 13 games, and numerous other members of the Indiana Fever have also missed time.
On Sunday, Sophie Cunningham went out with a knee injury, and going forward, her status is unknown. Indiana was on the ropes of losing their third straight game, as the Connecticut Sun led the game by 21 points. The Sun came into the game with a 6-26 record, which was the worst in the league. But Kelsey Mitchell and her teammates were rock solid and finished off an overtime win. Indiana finished the 99-93 come-from-behind effort.
At the end of regulation, Tina Charles and Aliyah Boston went back and forth, both scoring in the final minute to tie the game. Connecticut got the ball with just shy of 20.0 and drew up a play. The ball eventually got to Marina Mabrey, and she was unable to connect in the lane. Indiana called a timeout with 1.4 to go, but could not get a shot off in overtime.
Kelsey Mitchell got the first basket of overtime, which was the first lead for the Fever since 4-3. After Connecticut tied the game, Mitchell struck again, with back-to-back three pointers, and another bucket to finish with a season high 38 points.
Mabrey led Connecticut in scoring with 27 points, while Charles scored 21.
Now, all eyes remain on Indiana, and whether they can reach the postseason. At 19-16, the Fever have nine games to go. The remainder of August will see Indiana taking on Minnesota in home and away games, followed by games against the Storm, Sparks, and Valkyries. The first game against the Lynx comes on Friday.
In September, Indiana starts at Phoenix, before coming home to host the Chicago Sky. In the final two games, the Fever first play at the Washington Mystics, and then have another game at home against the Minnesota Lynx.

The standings have been tightening up. Washington started Sunday at 15-18, while the Seattle Storm were even closer at 17-17. Los Angeles sits at 16-17, making things very interesting. Indiana will have to remain in the top eight of the standings to remain in the postseason picture.
