Mysuru: They started as an informal group to fight against the axing of 40 mature trees that were more than six decades old on Hyder Ali Road near the SP office in Nazarbad. But now Action Committee is now taking forward its initiative to protect the waterbodies and greenery of Mysuru. As its first initiative, the committee, which is an umbrella grouping of more than a dozen organisations, transplanted four trees (Akash Mallige) that fell during downpour at Kukkarahalli Lake in early May.
Twigs sprouted from the branches of two translocated trees. In less than a week, the trees were back to life.It has been a month since the trees on Hyder Ali Road were axed. After activists voiced their concern about the axing of the trees, deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy formed a committee to examine the need for widening the road, the need to cut 40 mature trees, and to check whether all rules were followed to remove the trees.Committee convener Kamal Gopinath told TOI that after the committee was formed to investigate the matter, its findings have not been disclosed yet. "We have written a letter to both deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy and forest minister Eshwar B Khandre seeking to disclose the report," Gopinath said. The committee, according to Gopinath, is not against development but aims to conserve the environment. Development should happen not at the cost of nature, he said.

15 km toll-free ride: Gurgaon's Kherki Daula toll plaza to move to Pachgaon, bringing huge relief to Delhi-NCR office-goers

The government has approved the relocation of Gurgaon's Kherki Daula toll plaza. It will move to Pachgaon on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. This shift aims to ease traffic and reduce costs for commuters. The NHAI will implement a Multi Lane Free Flow toll system. Delhi-Manesar commuters will be exempt from tolls. The Haryana government has provided land for the new plaza. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads No more toll for Delhi-Manesar commuters Land provided, work to start soon Tech-driven toll collection Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Longstanding demand finally met Impact on Delhi's borders? In big relief for lakhs of office-goers and daily travellers, the government has approved the long-pending move to shift Gurgaon's Kherki Daula toll plaza to Pachgaon, beyond Manesar, on the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48). The move will ease traffic congestion and cut costs for those commuting between Delhi and to a report by TOI, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has cleared the plan. To avoid future traffic jams at the new location, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will set up a Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system. In this system, vehicles won't need to stop, cameras will read registration numbers and deduct toll from FASTag wallets the toll plaza is moved over 15 km away from Gurgaon, people travelling between Delhi and Manesar won't have to pay any toll at all. Locals have been demanding this change since 2014, arguing that the toll has already recovered more money than what was spent to build the road. In fact, the government told Lok Sabha in March that Rs 2,775 crore had been collected from tolls, which is 11% more than the Rs 2,489 crore spent on the Delhi-Gurgaon told TOI that the Haryana government has given around 28 acres of land to the NHAI for the new toll plaza. It will be set up near the Pachgaon interchange, where the Western Peripheral Expressway meets NH-48. The location was chosen to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and to avoid further tolling for those coming from the Dwarka Expressway side and heading towards MLFF system will bring a big change. Since there will be no physical barrier or stopping point, traffic jams like the ones currently seen at Kherki Daula can be avoided. A source also said that once the annual toll pass for private vehicles is introduced, many current issues will be resolved decision fulfils a promise made several times over the past 7–8 years by both Haryana and central governments. Locals near the Kherki Daula toll plaza have long protested, saying toll operators have made enough profit and that the tolling has caused daily also reports that this move could now increase pressure on the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to remove physical toll booths on the capital's borders. These booths often cause major traffic jams, which defeat the purpose of building high-speed expressways for faster from TOI

Bengaluru stampede: Top cop's warning letter to Karnataka govt before RCB event puts administration in a tight spot

Just hours before a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium killed 11 people during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru 's IPL victory celebration, a senior police officer had warned the state government of a possible disaster. According to a letter accessed by The Times of India (TOI), MN Karibasavana Gowda, who is in charge of legislature security, had flagged concerns about the lack of security personnel and the risk of crowd control problems on the morning of the event. What did the officer say? In his letter to G Sathyavathi, Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Gowda strongly advised against holding a public felicitation at the Vidhana Soudha. He wrote, 'RCB has a fan following nationwide and lakhs of cricket fans will come to Vidhana Soudha if we organise a programme on the grand steps. Since there is a shortage of security personnel, making bandobust arrangements will be a problem.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dukung Orang Terkasih Menghadapi Limfoma: Mulai Di Sini Limfoma Klik Di Sini This warning, as per TOI, was ignored, and just hours later, the city witnessed a tragedy that left 11 people dead and at least 75 injured. Political firestorm grows The Karnataka government is already under heavy fire for allegedly prioritising grand visuals over public safety. The fresh revelation has further fuelled public anger. Live Events On Saturday, BJP leader and Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje came down hard on the state leadership. 'Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have blood on their hands,' she said, holding the Chief Minister and his deputy directly responsible for the tragedy. She also criticised the suspension of Bengaluru's police commissioner, calling him 'a good and honest officer' who was being made a scapegoat. KSCA officials step down Amid the backlash, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) announced the resignation of its Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer E S Jairam, who took moral responsibility for the incident. The resignations were accepted during an emergency meeting led by KSCA President Raghuram Bhat. 'They placed a letter of resignation in front of the committee, which was accepted after acknowledging the work they have done over the last two and half years,' Bhat told the media. While no interim replacements were officially named, TOI reported that MS Vinay and Manjunatha Raju are leading contenders. The current KSCA committee's term ends on September 30, with elections expected in October or November. FIR filed against KSCA An FIR has been registered against the KSCA in connection with the stampede. Bhat confirmed that the association is cooperating fully with the probe. 'It is a very delicate issue. When the appropriate time comes, I myself will call all of you and give detailed information,' he said. He added that senior police officials had visited the KSCA office as part of the investigation and reiterated the association's willingness to support both the government and the High Court in the enquiry. Despite calls for a complete shake-up, Bhat ruled out dissolving the managing committee. 'Nothing of the sort. The game must go on, and that is why the emergency meeting was held. Rest all is fine at the moment,' he said. Tragedy that could have been prevented? The stampede occurred when a massive crowd gathered to celebrate RCB's historic IPL win, its first title since the league began. Wednesday's tragic incident has raised serious questions about whether the tragedy could have been prevented. Planning, crowd control, and accountability are now at the centre of public debate in Karnataka. Inputs from TOI
