SP walks out of UP Vidhan Parishad over school merger
SP MLCs Mukul Yadav, Ashutosh Sinha, Balram Yadav, Rajendra Chaudhary, Jasmeer Ansari and the leader of opposition in the Vidhan Parishad Lal Bihari Yadav raised the issue.
'The level of education in the BJP regime is deteriorating day by day. The current dispensation doesn't want children of Dalits, backwards and minorities to get educated and that is why it is conspiring to keep children of these classes away from education,' alleged Lal Bihari Yadav.
'The government is planning to hand over education into private hands. The government should not look at education as a business. Instead of closing the schools, the government should focus on increasing the number of students,' he claimed.
Yadav also claimed that madrasas in the state, which were built by the money contributed as Zakat (donation) by the Muslim community, had to face unnecessary audits and investigations.
Meanwhile, basic education minister Sandeep Singh in his reply said school merger was being done to improve the quality of education and promote classroom learning. 'The state of education system in UP before 2017 is not hidden from anyone. Earlier, no one used to talk about increasing the number of students. There were around three crore children who were not getting education during the SP regime,' the minister said.
'School merger will also increase the grant money from the Centre which is given as per the number of students,' he added. However, soon the SP MLCs interrupted and staged a walkout.
Earlier, SP MLC Man Singh Yadav raised the issue of the old pension scheme. 'If the new pension scheme is that good, why has it not been implemented for legislators and in the judiciary?' he asked. Another SP MLC Ashutosh Sinha demanded that the state government employees should be given a choice between the old and the new pension schemes.
Moreover, BJP MLCs Jai Pal Singh 'Vyastha' and Anoop Kumar Gupta congratulated Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla of the Indian Air Force for being the first Indian ever to set foot on the International Space Station (ISS).

Terming the trend of 'one child' and 'no child' among Patidars as 'fatal', Ahmedabad based Patidar socio-economic organisation, Vishv Umiyadham, requested the community to have three to four children. Addressing the community gathering in Kutch's Nakhatrana recently, Vishv Umiyadham President RP Patel said that since the numerical strength of the community is gradually declining, Patidars should have three to four children. 'If (our) numerical strength decreases, then (our) social and political strength will also decrease. If the political strength decreases, then the strength of Sanatan Dharma will decrease. AAP Leader Says Party Exposed BJP's Vote Theft, Congress Remained Silent
New Delhi: Amid the row erupted over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's "vote theft" allegations, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Priyanka Kakkar on Tuesday alleged that a "massive vote theft scam" is currently underway in the country and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of "stealing votes" during the February 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Kakkar also expressed disappointment over the Congress party's silence on alleged electoral irregularities in Delhi, despite raising similar concerns in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Speaking to ANI, the AAP leader said, "We stand with the country. Currently, a massive vote theft scam is underway in the country. AAP had shown how they (BJP) stole votes in the Delhi Assembly elections... We have always exposed the BJP's vote theft, but Congress has always remained silent on this issue." "Even today, when Congress raises the issue of SIR in Karnataka or Maharashtra, they still fail to acknowledge vote theft in Delhi. It is very unfortunate that at that time, they supported the BJP and said that whether someone's name is on the voter list or not, it doesn't matter to the public. This is very unfortunate," Kakkar added. Earlier today, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge joined fellow INDIA bloc members in staging a protest in Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue. Sambhal court orders SP MP to raze illegal structure within 30 days
A sub-divisional magistrate court in Sambhal on Tuesday ordered Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq to demolish an alleged unauthorised structure within 30 days, measuring 1 metre deep and 14 metres long, built outside his residence. The administration has warned that bulldozers will be used if the directive is ignored. Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq (File photo) Under Section 9 of the Uttar Pradesh (Regulation of Building Operations) Act, the court also imposed a fine of ₹1.35 lakh on the MP after it was found that the construction lacked an approved building plan. Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Vikas Chandra said the order reinforced that legal provisions apply to all. 'If anyone works outside the law, action will be taken against them,' he stated. The matter began on December 5, 2023, when the first notice was issued. Despite earlier fines of ₹500 and ₹1,000 for the same violation, Barq did not submit a revised building plan. Over the past eight months, the court scheduled more than 20 hearings, but no map or satisfactory reply was provided. Hearings were conducted on December 12, 14, and 27, followed by a third notice on December 28. Deadlines were extended to January 16, 23, and 30. From February to April, the MP sought repeated extensions, even after multiple warnings and two fines. The SDM's office said proceedings were repeatedly stalled at the request of his legal team. In a separate matter earlier this June, Barq deposited ₹6 lakh with the electricity department as per an Allahabad high court order in an alleged electricity theft case. The payment led to the restoration of electricity to his residence in Deepa Sarai, ending a legal dispute that also began in December 2023.
