BMW Concept Speedtop, a limited production shooting brake based on the now discontinued BMW M8, has been unveiled by the German carmaker. Debuting at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, the new BMW Speedtop coupe is a reinterpretation of the brand's shooting-brake legacy.
Building on the BMW Skytop convertible, which was unveiled last year, BMW has now confirmed that the Speedtop will make the leap from concept to reality—with just 70 units slated for production. This limited edition is aimed at collectors and purists looking for exclusivity and muscular performance in a stunning, retro-inspired package.

With a silhouette that harks back to the legendary Z3 M Coupe—affectionately dubbed the "clown shoe"—and elements from the Z4 coupe concept, the Speedtop blends modern aggression with nostalgic charm. Its three-door shooting-brake design gives it a distinctive stance, exuding elegance and athleticism in equal measure.
The body is finished in a custom 'Floating Sunstone' gradient, a mix of silver and maroon that changes color with the light. The custom coating is highlighted by the two-tone, 14-spoke alloy wheels made for this concept. While last year's Skytop had a warm brown interior, the Speedtop goes with a white leather colour scheme for a touch of class and contrast throughout the cabin and luggage sections. BMW Concept Speedtop: Features
The Speedtop's interior represents artisanal luxury. For the interior of the Speedtop, BMW has collaborated with highly regarded Italian leather artisans Schedoni, to develop custom, hand stitched travel cases that are consistent with the car's design aesthetics. These custom travel cases fit conveniently into leather strapped compartments located behind the front seats, making the Speedtop functional—as well as fantastic— for extended journeys.

The rear cargo space is divided into two parts, giving ample room for larger travel luggage. To further improve the cabin atmosphere, an ambient light strip has been incorporated into the cargo space—combining practicality and a touch of occasion. BMW Concept Speedtop: Specifications
Beneath its sculpted hood, the Speedtop has some serious power to offer. Sharing its mechanical DNA with the BMW M8 Competition, it is powered by a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine as stated with an imposing 460kW of power and 750Nm of torque. It's the most powerful non-electrified V8 in BMW's extensive lineup, with which we imagine will guarantee performance to match its exotic looks.
While prices remain confidential, it is believed the Speedtop's price will well exceed the Skytop convertible's price of more than $570,000. Due to its rarity and ultra-custom, the Speedtop will likely become a collector's jewel in private collections internationally.

Former VP Dhankhar Switched To Non-Bulletproof Innova After MHA Delayed Vehicle Replacement Request

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had been traveling in a non-bulletproof Toyota Innova since November 2024 after the Ministry of Home Affairs delayed his request for replacement bulletproof vehicles, according to exclusive information obtained by The Indian Express. In February 2024, the Vice President's Secretariat formally requested new high-security vehicles from the MHA, citing the deteriorating condition of Dhankhar's three official bulletproof BMW cars. The communication indicated that two vehicles had exceeded six years of service while the third was approaching the five-year replacement threshold within months. The February 28 letter from the VP's deputy secretary to the Additional Secretary of Police Modernisation Division emphasized the urgent need for vehicle replacement, requesting immediate initiation of the procurement process for three new bulletproof high-security automobiles to ensure continued protection during daily movements. Following initial confusion about procurement authority, with the VP's office first approaching Delhi Police's security division before being redirected to the MHA, the ministry responded in June 2024. An under-secretary informed the Vice President's Secretariat about forming an inspection board comprising six officers, including specialists from the National Security Guard and Central Reserve Police Force with technical expertise in bulletproof vehicle systems. However, by November 2024, the VP's office made an independent decision to replace the aging bulletproof vehicles with standard commercial models. Internal Delhi Police communications revealed that the secretariat had switched to an Innova as the primary vehicle and a Fortuner as backup, neither equipped with bulletproof protection, after determining the BMW fleet had exceeded its five-year operational lifespan. Despite the VP receiving Z-plus security coverage from Delhi Police, his office declined offers to obtain bulletproof vehicles from the police department when informed about the security limitations of the new fleet. The Officer on Special Duty and Secretary were specifically notified that the replacement vehicles lacked bulletproof capabilities, with alternative arrangements available upon request. This vehicle situation remained unchanged until Dhankhar's resignation announcement on July 22, when he stepped down from the Vice Presidential position citing health concerns. Queries sent to relevant authorities including the VP's Secretariat, MHA spokesperson, and Delhi Police officials did not receive responses regarding the delayed procurement process or security implications.

BMW Carmaking Margin Declines Due to US Tariffs, China Slump

BMW AG's profitability declined in the second quarter as lower sales in China and extra costs from President Donald Trump's trade war weighed on the German luxury-car maker's earnings. The manufacturer's automotive operating margin fell to 5.4% in the three months through June — still within its guidance range for the year and slightly above analyst expectations. BMW expects tariffs to drag down the margin by 1.25 percentage points in 2025. The carmaker confirmed its full-year outlook of an auto margin of at least 5%, making it an exception among European automakers this earnings season. Over the past week, Porsche AG, its parent Volkswagen AG and Mercedes-Benz Group AG all scaled back their earnings expectations after tallying the cost of President Donald Trump's trade war. BMW has been faring somewhat better than Mercedes in the transition to battery-powered cars, with its EV sales rising 16% in the first half. Chief Executive Officer Oliver Zipse wants to continue the trend as the company prepares to unwrap the first of its Neue Klasse EVs in September. Still, BMW and its German peers are losing ground in China, where increasingly competitive domestic manufacturers led by BYD Co. are squeezing both volume and pricing. The European Union's recent trade deal with the US lowers duties on auto imports from the bloc to 15%. That's well below the earlier 27.5% levy but far higher than the 2.5% tariff in place before Trump's new trade policies. BMW said Thursday that its outlook also includes mitigating measures to dampen the impact of the duties. The company operates its biggest factory globally in South Carolina and in April said it's considering additional shifts there to increase output. Ajith Kumar Adds BMW S1000RR Superbike To Swanky Fleet

BMW's flagship superbike finds a spot in Ajith Kumar's growing collection. South actor Ajith Kumar, known for his love of superbikes and racing, has added a new machine to his garage, the BMW S1000RR. A video filmed in Dubai shows the actor riding the superbike out of a hotel parking area. It is nighttime, and Ajith is suited up in riding gear, making for an impressive visual. Ajith has chosen the Light White Uni / M Motorsport colour scheme, which includes sporty M Carbon wheels and M footrests. Ajith has always had a strong interest in bikes. Earlier, he was seen riding a BMW R1200GS in India on road trips. While the R1200GS is more suited for adventure touring, the S1000RR is built for speed and performance, both on roads and race tracks. Ajith enjoys both styles of riding. What Makes the S1000RR Special? BMW Motorrad launched the updated S1000RR this year at the Bharat Mobility Expo. In India, it reportedly costs Rs 21.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2025 model gets sharper design updates, new winglets for better downforce at high speeds, and a sleeker side and tail profile. These changes are visible in the video in which Ajith was seen. The bike is packed with top-end features like five riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and Race Pro), launch control, traction control, hill start assist, and a 6.5-inch digital display. It runs on a 999cc inline-four engine that produces 206.5 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The superbike can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of over 300 km/h. Other advanced features include a quickshifter, anti-hopping clutch, and a new short-stroke throttle. Strong Sales in India Despite being a high-end bike, the S1000RR has reportedly found great success in India. As per Cartoq, BMW Motorrad recently delivered the 1,000th unit in Delhi, marking a major milestone. The bike competes with other litre-class superbikes like the Ducati Panigale V4 and Aprilia RSV4 Factory. Its smooth handling, performance, and relatively competitive pricing make it a favourite among Indian superbike fans. Ajith's latest ride is just another reminder of his deep passion for motorcycles and his love for the thrill of the ride. view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: July 31, 2025, 11:37 IST News auto Ajith Kumar Adds BMW S1000RR Superbike To Swanky Fleet Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
