Prime accused in Murshidabad father-son murder during Bengal violence arrested
The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested the prime accused in the murder of a man and his son in violence-hit Murshidabad district in West Bengal. Police sources confirmed to India Today that a 24-year-old man named Fekarul Sk, alias Mohak, was arrested last night in the Domjur area in Howrah district.Fekarul is a resident of Shamserganj in Murshidabad district of the state. According to STF sources, he was one of the individuals who physically attacked the victims with a sharp weapon, killing the father-son duo during the violence in Murshidabad on April 12.advertisementFekarul Sheikh was on the run after the double murder. He took shelter in Howrah and started working as a labourer in Domjur. His name was revealed during the interrogation of other arrested accused in custody. Based on their statements, the STF raided the Domjur area and arrested Fekarul last night. This is the fifth arrest by West Bengal Police in the case.

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Seven Naxalites, including two high-ranking leaders, were killed in a major anti-Naxal operation conducted by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district between June 5 and 7, officials said on Saturday. According to officials, the operation, led jointly by the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in the dense forest region of the National Park area, also resulted in the seizure of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and communication equipment. Inspector General (IG) of Police, Bastar Range, P Sundarraj, said that so far, a total of 7 bodies of Naxal cadres have been recovered by security forces during the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the National Park area of Bijapur district. These include the bodies of Central Committee Member Gautam @ Sudhakar and Bhaskar, a Telangana State Committee Member. 'It is worth mentioning that, as part of the continued anti-Naxal operations in the National Park area of Bijapur district, a total of 7 Naxal bodies have been recovered following multiple encounters that took place on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of June 2025,' he added. The security forces conducted multiple encounters with Maoists in the dense forest terrain of the National Park area over three consecutive days. During the combing and search operations that followed the encounters, they recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and communication devices from the encounter sites. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the five remaining deceased Naxals. 'Search and area domination operations are still ongoing in the surrounding forested terrain. A few of the security personnel suffered injuries due to snake bites, honey bee stings, dehydration and other operational injuries. They are being provided with appropriate medical attention. Right now, their condition is normal and out of danger,' added the IG. According to official data, 186 Maoists have been killed in counter-insurgency operations across the Bastar Range in 2025 so far. Between 2024 and 2025, over 403 Maoists have been neutralised in the region following sustained anti-Naxal efforts. Commenting on the recent success, Chhattisgarh Speaker Raman Singh referred to the deadline set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for eliminating naxalism and said, 'Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also set a deadline that naxalism will be eliminated from India by 2026. Woman Maoist operative on the run for 15 years arrested in Bihar
Patna: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-LWE operations, the Jamui Police in Bihar on Saturday arrested Sarita Soren a.k.a. Sita Soren, a female Maoist operative who had been absconding for the last 15 years. The arrest took place near Karma village, an official said. The development marks the second major success within three days for the district police as the force on Thursday nabbed another long-absconding Maoist operative involved in serious cases from as far back as 2005. Jamui Superintendent of Police Madan Kumar Anand confirmed the arrest and said that Sarita Soren had been on the police radar for years but consistently evaded capture. Acting on an Intelligence input, a joint team comprising Jamui Police, STF personnel, and officers from the technical cell launched a swift operation and surrounded her maternal home in Karma, successfully apprehending her. "Sarita Soren was involved in the 2010 Maoist attack in Chakai which claimed two lives. She also served as a key member of the female Maoist squad," SP Anand stated. Several cases, including charges under the Arms Act and murder, are registered against her. Her prolonged evasion and strategic role within the Maoist ranks made her one of the most wanted operatives in the region. The police consider her arrest a major blow to Maoist activities in the Jhajha-Chakai belt. Earlier on Thursday, Jamui Police arrested Naresh Ravidas a.k.a. Patal Ravidas, a notorious Maoist operative and former area commander, from Teliyadih village under the Jhajha police station area. On January 5, 2005, he was allegedly involved in the ambush and killed then Munger SP K.C. Surendra Babu and five other police personnel in the Bhimbandh forest area. The deadly attack near Peshra village sent shockwaves across Bihar and exposed critical gaps in the state's security preparedness at that time. In 2008, he was also accused of being involved in a Maoist attack at Belhar village that claimed five lives of innocent civilians in Banka district. The back-to-back arrests reflect increased pressure on Naxalite groups in Bihar and reinforce the state police's commitment to dismantling remaining insurgent networks.

Sambhal violence: Posters with photos of absconding suspects to be displayed in other UP districts
Posters of the absconding persons accused in the Sambhal violence case will be displayed in other districts of Uttar Pradesh, PTI reported. The properties of the persons accused wanted in the matter will also be attached, the news agency quoted Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar as saying on Friday. Kumar added that raids were being conducted at several locations to arrest the persons. The police had in February put up posters with photos of 74 persons suspected to be involved in the violence that erupted in November. The photos were displayed at several spots in Sambhal for residents to identify the persons accused in the matter and help authorities find them. On November 24, violence broke out in Sambhal after a group of Muslims objected to a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Chandausi town. A trial court had ordered the survey in a suit claiming that the mosque had been built in 1526 by Mughal ruler Babar on the site of the 'centuries-old Shri Hari Har Temple dedicated to Lord Kalki'. Five persons were killed in the violence during the survey. In December, the district administration said that posters of those allegedly involved in the violence will be put up on public walls. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government had said that it will make those involved in the violence pay for the damage to public property and display their pictures on public walls. The police have registered eight first information reports against 150 persons and 2,500 other unidentified individuals suspected to be involved in the violence. Several persons were arrested for allegedly throwing stones at the police during the violence. In 2020, the Uttar Pradesh government had put up posters of individuals allegedly involved in vandalism during the protests against the contentious Citizen Amendment Act, before the Allahabad High Court forced them to be taken down, The Hindu reported.
