SEOUL, July 14 — Big Hit Music, the Hybe label behind global sensations BTS and Tomorrow X Together (TXT), will debut its first new boy group in six years on August 18.
Korea Herald reported that the five-member group consists of teenagers Martin, James, Juhoon, Sunghyun, and Geonho, all of whom have experience in performance, songwriting, choreography, and video production.
'These five are a 'young creator crew' who approach music, dance and visual content with a completely fresh and original perspective,' Big Hit Music reportedly said in a statement.
'They write and compose based on their own stories and showcase their creative abilities across lyrics, performance and videography. What makes them special is that they work together as a collaborative unit, without being limited to fixed roles or positions.'
Members of the new group have previously contributed creatively to other established Hybe artists.
Martin has writing credits on TXT's 'Deja Vu,' 'Miracle,' and upcoming single 'Beautiful Strangers,' as well as Enhypen's 'Outside,' Le Sserafim's 'Pierrot,' and Illit's 'Magnetic.'
James co-choreographed TXT's 'Deja Vu' and Illit's songs 'Magnetic,' 'Cherish (My Love),' and 'Tick-Tack.'
He also co-wrote TXT's 'Deja Vu,' 'Miracle,' and Illit's 'Magnetic' alongside Martin.
Big Hit Music has yet to announce further details, including the name of the group, which will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The label last debuted a boy group in 2019, TXT, which has since gained international popularity.

Michelle Yeoh says ‘hell yes' to English dub of ‘Ne Zha 2' (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Michelle Yeoh is lending her voice to the English-language version of Ne Zha 2, the Chinese animated smash that raked in over US$2.2 billion (RM9.3 billion) to become the biggest animated film ever. Channel NewsAsia reported that after watching it in Hong Kong, and also while being fluent in Mandarin, Yeoh found the subtitles hard to follow amid the dazzling visuals — and knew that kids wouldn't stand a chance without a dub. Soon enough, studio A24 and CMC Pictures invited her to voice Ne Zha's mother, Lady Yin — and Yeoh's response was a resounding, 'Hell yes.' The English dub opens in over 2,500 North American theatres on August 22. The film follows the young demon-reincarnate Ne Zha, striving to rewrite his destiny by saving his village and friends. This screen grab shows a scene from the movie featuring Lady Yin, voiced by Michelle Yeoh, and her son, the young demon-reincarnate Ne Zha. — Screengrab from YouTube/A24 The sequel is accessible even if you haven't seen the first one, as it provides all the necessary backstory. Crafted over five years by 4,000 creators across 138 studios, the epic 143-minute spectacle weaves together 2,400 animation shots and 1,900 visual effects scenes. Yeoh praised the artistry, saying the team 'pushed all the boundaries…created this magical world…intricacies are mind-blowing.' The Oscar winner also helped fine-tune the English translation, maintaining a poetic nuance while keeping it contemporary and accessible. After earning over US$20 million in North America with subtitles earlier this year, Yeoh hopes the dub will help Ne Zha 2 resonate even more widely. 'It's the universal language of family... of the underdog,' she said. 'It immerses you into our culture…a beautiful way to cross that bridge.'

Lisa steps into heartbreak: Blackpink star channels grief in ‘Dream' music video (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Blackpink's Lisa has released the music video for Dream, a track from her debut solo album Alter Ego, which features Japanese actor and model Kentaro Sakaguchi as her lost love. According to Billboard, the five-minute clip directed by OJun Kwon sees Lisa using her acting skills — the Kpop girl group superstar starred as Mook, a a health-guru type in The White Lotus — as a heartbroken widow haunted by memories of her partner. It opens with the singer in funeral attire placing a white flower on his casket, before the video shifts to scenes of happier days — road trips, late-night stops, and playful moments that highlight the couple's bond. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that her lover is gone. Lisa is shown carrying his ashes to a lake, recalling a conversation where they shared dreams of another life together. The video ends with her scattering his remains, symbolising both loss and longing. Sakaguchi, known for his roles in Japanese dramas and films, currently stars in Netflix's Beyond Goodbye, where he plays Naruse Akihito, a man whose fate becomes entangled with a grieving woman. Lisa, meanwhile, continues to enjoy solo success. She recently picked up her third MTV Video Music Awards nomination for Best K-pop with Born Again, and is on tour with Blackpink, with the group set to perform at London's Wembley Stadium this month.

‘Unexpected challenge': Jet Li says he's recovering well after surgery

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Martial arts star Jet Li has told fans he is recovering after undergoing surgery, easing concerns about his health. According to The Straits Times, the 62-year-old actor shared a video on August 17 on Douyin, China's version of TikTok, showing himself lying in a hospital bed with his eyes closed. 'I've recently faced another unexpected challenge,' he wrote in English, before appearing later in the clip standing and saying, 'I feel much better now. Let's tell the others that I'm fine.' The following day, Li posted a photo on Weibo of himself enjoying a bowl of knife-cut noodles, saying in Chinese: 'I have left the 'factory' and am eating something delicious.' He also thanked fans for their concern and sent them wishes of good health and happiness. A close friend of Li's — Hong Kong film producer Tiffany Chen — told Taiwan's China Times that the surgery was to remove a small benign tumour. Li had revealed in 2010 that he had hyperthyroidism, and continues to manage the condition — which can cause fatigue and weight loss — with medication. The actor also shared on Weibo earlier this month that he had bought a Luxeed R7 sport utility vehicle as a wedding gift for his eldest daughter, Li Si, 37, from his first marriage to former actress Huang Qiuyan. The couple also have another daughter, Li Taimi, 36. Li has been married to former actress Nina Li Chi since 1999 and share two daughters — Jane, 25, and Jada, 22.
