Society chairman accused of siphoning off Rs 16 lakh
As per the complaint, Indrasinh Patil was appointed chairman of Suman Pratik Avas Co-Operative Society, which has 168 members and is located on Dabholi Road. The annual maintenance charge per household was Rs 30,000. The society, originally constructed by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), was officially handed over to the members in 2019, along with a fund of Rs 50.4 lakh. This amount was deposited in the society's account at SBI's Singanpor branch.
During the Covid period, Rs 25.05 lakh from this fund was distributed to members facing financial hardship. Later, on June 28, 2020, the society invested Rs 20 lakh in a fixed deposit, maturing on Aug 26, 2025.
In Jan this year, the society decided to install solar panels to reduce electricity expenses. To finance the project, the members planned to take an overdraft against the Rs 20 lakh FD. However, upon visiting the bank, they discovered that the account had insufficient balance.

Don't be intimidated, state has your back, Mamata tells state officials
Kolkata: Assuring state officials that her govt would back them, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee asked them not to be intimidated. "Do your work honestly, no one will be able to do anything," the CM told officers during a 30-minute address at the meeting she wasn't even scheduled to address, said sources. The hybrid meeting was attended by senior officers, DMs, SPs and police commissioners. Even thought the CM didn't make any mention of the state's tussle with the EC, her statements came on a day when the EC asked Bengal chief secretary Manoj Pant to physically appear before it in Delhi and explain the action taken against four state officers and a data entry operator. The EC wants the state to suspend the five, draw FIRs, and take disciplinary action. The Bengal govt has removed two from poll duty and has ordered an inquiry against all five. Sources said that the CM made it clear at the meeting that those involved in electoral roll revision could not be intimidated. Accusing Assam govt of putting Bengal residents under NRC threat, Banerjee stated that Bengal would not bow down and urged officers to fight to protect the rights of Bengal's people. The CM asked SPs and CPs to take control instead of delegating responsibility to ICs or OCs and asked them to supervise police work properly. She asked the senior cops to be proactive in preventing crimes like murder, sources said. Banerjee also asked the district administration to help migrant workers returning to the state. She instructed the DMs to take initiatives, help in getting children of migrant workers admitted to schools and provide health care if needed. The CM also asked officials to include the returning migrant workers under the Karmashree scheme. Banerjee emphasised the need for increasing publicity for 'Amader Para Amader Samadhan' camps so more people could join the camps. APAS camps have already seen a footfall of around 30 lakh. IIM-A to study socio-economic impact of Olympics on city, state
Gandhinagar: How could the 2036 Olympics, if hosted by Ahmedabad, impact the city and Gujarat? The findings will play a crucial role in shaping the commitments outlined in the 'Host City Contract', with a focus on fostering long-term benefits and sustainable development for the host communities. The Gujarat govt has enlisted the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) to conduct an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic and environmental impacts of hosting the prestigious event. Commissioned by the Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development Company (GSIDC Ltd), and to be conducted over the next six months, the studies aim to evaluate the potential impacts on Ahmedabad and Gujarat, ensuring alignment with global sustainability standards. The studies will focus on identifying and standardizing relevant environmental metrics, design of a stakeholder engagement framework for environmental assessment, and assessment of carbon emissions associated with the Games. Top govt sources said that these studies are mandated as part of the requirements for Olympic bid evaluation and host city selection. "The findings from these studies will influence commitments in the Host City Contract and will require continuous monitoring, with reporting obligations at one, five and 10-year intervals after the Games," sources said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Watches Under 20,000, Buy Now Sale Is Live Luxury Watches Shop Now Undo You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad | Gold Rates Today in Ahmedabad | Silver Rates Today in Ahmedabad Stating that independent third-party verification and validation of the studies are also required, official sources said, "The primary purpose of these studies is to ensure that the Games contribute positively to host communities, support sustainable development, and create measurable long-term benefits beyond the event." The scope will also include risk management by identifying and mitigating potential negative impacts and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals. According to officials, IIM-A's scope of work includes examination of changes in demographic patterns and community development, analysis of public health and well-being outcomes, assessment of workforce development, skills enhancement, and volunteerism, and evaluation of long-term social changes. "The economic impact study will evaluate direct contributions from key revenue sources, analyze indirect and induced impacts on sectors such as transport, hospitality, retail, and real estate, assess employment generation potential before, during, and after the event, and forecast long-term economic benefits," said officials, adding that the business school will use economic modelling techniques like input-output analysis and cost-benefit analysis during the studies.
