Saudia Cargo, Henan Aviation Group ink deal to bolster routes between Riyadh, Zhengzhou
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and China are strengthening their air cargo cooperation through a new agreement to create a joint freight hub as part of the Air Silk Road initiative.
The deal, inked between Saudia Cargo and Henan Aviation Group, will see new new routes opened between Riyadh and Zhengzhou, according to a statement.
This correlates with the Saudi Aviation Strategy, which recognizes the need to increase air connectivity with key markets such as China as part of the Kingdom's goal of transporting 4.5 million tonnes of air cargo by 2030.
The statement further highlighted that the agreement aims to 'support integrated logistics services and free trade zone development' and 'advance sustainability and cross-border e-commerce through logistics innovation.'
It also seeks to explore investment opportunities in the high-tech and aviation sectors in Zhengzhou.
The MoU came during a meeting held by President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej in Riyadh with Henan Province Vice Governor Sun Shougang to bolster investments between the two countries, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
During the discussion, the two sides discussed strengthening economic relations, focusing on fostering high-quality investments for leading firms and empowering the private sector to seize available opportunities. Both parties also explored enhancing Saudi-Chinese air transport in alignment with Vision 2030 and the Saudi Aviation Strategy.
GACA also held a Saudi-Chinese roundtable to explore collaboration opportunities in logistics zones and air cargo. The meeting included the Chairman of China Henan Aviation Group, along with representatives from national carriers and logistics firms.
The roundtable also included various Saudi government entities, such as the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Investment, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, as well as the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade, the Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority, the Industrial Center, and the Air Connectivity Program.
The Chinese delegation conducted a field visit to the Special Integrated Logistics Zone in Riyadh and the cargo zones at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, where they observed operational capabilities, cargo-handling facilities and zones, e-commerce shipments, and the digital capabilities and mechanisms in use.
The delegation also visited King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, where they toured the Airport Operations Control Center to observe the services provided as well as explored the commercial areas, and duty-free store.
China's COSCO Shipping unveils Dammam office
Chinese company COSCO Shipping has launched its first office in the Kingdom in Dammam in an attempt to enhance operational efficiency and logistical connectivity.
This move also strengthens the firm's partnership with the Saudi Ports Authority, or Mawani, supports trade growth, and achieves the goals of the nation's Vision 2030 of consolidating the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub.
Saudi NHC continues house building deal with Chinese firm
Saudi Arabia's National Housing Co. has extended its partnership with China State Construction Engineering Corporation, which aims to build 20,000 housing units within NHC destinations.
The partnership has been realized through the launch of multiple projects across NHC sites in the Eastern Region, Riyadh, and Jeddah, delivering over 3,800 housing units.
It comes as an extension of the Saudi-Chinese partnership series and several agreements signed with Chinese firms during the official visit to China by Minister Al-Hogail and NHC CEO Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Buty.
NHC stated that the partnership extends its efforts to enhance the real estate supply and inject more housing units through quality partnerships with major international companies to establish urban destinations with high-quality standards across the Kingdom.

Saudi Gazette report AMMAN — The Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Gaza, chaired by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan, held a virtual meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday. The meeting included the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Ayman Safadi, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit. From the Palestinian side, the meeting was attended by Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammad Mustafa. The Committee briefed President Abbas on its international efforts aimed at securing an immediate end to the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, lifting the blockade, and ending the humanitarian catastrophe. The Committee also updated the President on ongoing preparations to ensure the success of the upcoming High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, scheduled to be held in New York this June under the joint chairmanship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic. The Conference seeks to advance the realization of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Committee reaffirmed its support for the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. It called on Israel to permit the immediate, adequate, and sustained entry of humanitarian and medical aid, and to grant access to United Nations agencies—particularly the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)—to deliver assistance across the Strip. The Committee also called for an end to the dangerous escalation by Israel in the West Bank. The Committee emphasized the importance of convening the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, to be held in Cairo immediately after a ceasefire is reached. The conference will implement the reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab Emergency Summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025. The Committee reiterated the importance of supporting the Palestinian National Authority and praised the reform measures initiated by President Mahmoud Abbas. It strongly condemned Israel's obstruction of the Committee's planned visit to Ramallah earlier today, describing it as a violation of diplomatic norms and a reflection of a dangerous policy aimed at hindering the Committee's efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, as well as to support the Palestinian government's reform agenda. The Committee stated that this action was, regrettably, consistent with the Israeli government's extremist policies, which continue to block humanitarian aid from entering Gaza and obstruct broader peace efforts. For his part, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for the Committee's efforts to mobilize international support for ending the war in Gaza, alleviating the humanitarian crisis, and advancing the implementation of the two-state solution. He reiterated hope for the success of the upcoming High-Level International Conference and for expanding international recognition of the State of Palestine. President Abbas affirmed the government's commitment to its reform program and called for coordinated international support across the political, economic, and security dimensions to reinforce these efforts. He also called on Israel to release the Palestinian funds it is unlawfully withholding. The President reaffirmed his commitment to rejecting violence and the targeting of civilians, and to working toward peace and security in cooperation with Arab states and international partners. He expressed hope that the Ministerial Committee would soon be welcomed in person on Palestinian soil.

The TNFS Summit 2025 concluded on May 29 in Riyadh with the adoption of an ambitious vision for a future free from tobacco-related harm — one rooted in innovation, prevention, and regulatory integration. The summit served as a regional platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange around effective harm reduction policies and the encouragement of safer alternatives. The summit was organized under the TNFS initiative, a strategic partnership between Badael (a Public Investment Fund company), the Quality of Life Program (a Vision 2030 program), and Smart Health as the summit's scientific partner. The event brought together more than 100 experts and decision-makers from within the Kingdom and abroad, representing health organizations, regulatory authorities, and leading academic institutions. Summit sessions reviewed global models for tobacco control, including experiences from Sweden and the UK. Core themes aligned with Saudi Arabia's national strategy included: •Correcting public misconceptions about nicotine and its role as a lower-risk alternative to tobacco, as part of the solution, not the problem. •Evaluating the impact of taxation as an effective tool to reduce tobacco consumption. • Showcasing scientific innovations in reduced-risk alternative products. Official data from the General Authority for Statistics showed that the adult smoking rate in Saudi Arabia dropped from 17.5 percent to 12.4 percent within one year. Participants emphasized that TNFS is a true transformation platform, one that moves beyond awareness toward real impact on policy and societal behavior — reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a regional model to follow. Organizers announced that the summit would serve as the first in a series of specialized events in this field. During the summit, Tolga Sezer, CEO of Badael, said: 'We believe harm reduction is the pathway to a smoke-free future. TNFS marks a powerful starting point for Saudi Arabia's national efforts to tackle tobacco use, driven by science, innovation, and supportive legislation.' Salman Al-Khattaf, adviser to the CEO of the Quality of Life Program, added: 'Health is not a choice but a foundation for a dignified life and a productive society. Dr. Sara Al-Rashoud, research adviser at Smart Health, noted that the TNFS initiative reflects a shared commitment across sectors to reducing smoking and achieving a smoke-free Saudi Arabia, especially with nearly 4.8 million adult smokers currently in the Kingdom. Dr. Christopher Russell, a UK-based behavioral scientist specializing in tobacco and nicotine use, estimated that smoking causes approximately 14,200 premature deaths annually in Saudi Arabia. He also predicted that the global end of smoking could be achieved within the next 40 years. Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos shared successful international harm reduction models, highlighting Sweden's achievement in reducing smoking rates from 15 percent to 5 percent over 15 years. This shift contributed to a 41 percent drop in cancer incidence and a 39.6 percent decrease in tobacco-related deaths. He called these outcomes a strategic opportunity for the region. In the session titled 'Tobacco Harm Reduction in the Middle East,' Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Qudhib, a Saudi family physician specializing in noncommunicable diseases and tobacco harm reduction, warned about persistently high smoking rates in countries such as Jordan and Lebanon. Public health expert Dr. Mohammad Yaman noted that 85 percent of smokers relapse within months, according to Mayo Clinic studies. He therefore considered the TNFS initiative an important step toward reducing smoking, calling for the model to be expanded and for greater regional collaboration. In closing, participants affirmed that the TNFS Summit 2025 marks a pivotal step in the Kingdom's journey toward a society free from tobacco-related harm. Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud Sponsors Annual Ceremony for Forces Participating in Hajj Season
Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, reviewed the readiness of the Hajj security forces to carry out their field duties in ensuring the safety and security of the pilgrims. This came during his patronage of the annual ceremony organized by the forces participating in this year's Hajj season, 1446. In a speech delivered during the event, the Director of Public Security and Chairman of the Hajj Security Committee, Lieutenant General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, affirmed that the wise leadership has mobilized all capabilities to serve the pilgrimage and care for the pilgrims, making it one of its highest priorities. He also noted that these great efforts have produced exemplary outcomes in managing human crowds, coordination, planning, and integration among the various sectors, thereby ensuring the intended goals and allowing the guests of God to enjoy the highest levels of safety and security.
