Delhi: 1,100 illegal Bangladeshis deported since Jan
More than 1,100 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported from Delhi since January 2025, with nearly a third of these removals occurring over the past two weeks, senior police officers said on Wednesday. The deportations are part of an ongoing crackdown on undocumented immigrants ordered by Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena in December last year. Following the LG's directives, Delhi Police launched a sweeping verification drive that began in south and central districts. Between December and January, officers screened over 16,000 individuals. Those found residing in the Capital without valid documents were handed over to the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which then carried out deportation procedures, officials said. 'All police districts are undertaking intensive verification drives in identified zones,' said an officer, adding that the focus has been on slum settlements and other vulnerable pockets. The South district police alone deported 134 Bangladeshi nationals, including 38 women and 43 children, following a six-month-long operation. Deputy commissioner of police (south) Ankit Chauhan said enforcement was based on 'credible local intelligence' and targeted those overstaying visas or living without valid documents. 'We conducted 14 checks across Sangam Vihar, Fatehpur Beri, Lodhi Colony, and Maidan Garhi between December 2024 and June 2025,' he said. Multiple teams were actively visiting suspected pockets to verify identities through Aadhaar and voter ID cards. 'Our efforts remain focused on ensuring legality and public safety,' said Chauhan. Police teams verified identities using Aadhaar and voter ID cards and activated local informants to track down undocumented immigrants. Officials also mapped irregular entry points commonly used by migrants. In four cases, FIRs have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Foreigners Act, and the Aadhaar Act. Among the notable cases, five Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Sangam Vihar earlier this year, while eight were arrested in Lodhi Colony in March. In Maidan Garhi, one individual was also booked under the Arms Act. The outer district police detained 92 Bangladeshi nationals on Tuesday, including 22 women and 39 minors. 'A team deployed near Mangolpuri Railway Line spotted several groups carrying luggage and preparing to board trains. On seeing the police, they tried to flee, but our officers swiftly intercepted them,' said DCP (outer) Sachin Sharma. On June 1, the north-west district police detained 66 more Bangladeshi nationals, including 30 minors and 16 women, in similar enforcement action. Officials said the crackdown will continue in coordination with FRRO to ensure all those residing illegally in Delhi are identified and processed for deportation.

Two unauthorised clinics raided in Panipat, owners booked for illegal medical practice
Karnal: The Panipat police have registered two separate FIRs after the Chief Minister's Flying Squad raided two clinics operating without valid licenses or medical certifications. In the first case, Shabir Ali, a local resident, was booked at the Model Town police station under Sections 18(a)(i) and 18(c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the complaint filed by Vishal, a medical officer at the general hospital, a raid was conducted at SK Clinic in the 8 Marla area based on a tip-off received by the Civil Surgeon, Panipat. The team found Shabir Ali seated in the doctor's chair inside the clinic. When questioned, Ali claimed he was running the clinic. The name of Dr Kajal, BAMS—reportedly his daughter—was displayed on the clinic board, but Ali said she got married in November 2024 and now lives in Saharanpur. The team discovered a large stock of allopathic and injectable medicines inside the clinic, some labeled under the name of a Dr S Khan. Ali failed to produce any valid medical degree or license to justify his practice. In the second case, Devender, another local resident and owner of Dev EH Hospital and Medical Institute near Deswal Chowk, was booked at the Old Industrial police station under similar sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, National Medical Commission Act, and the BNS. Panipat deputy chief medical officer Subash Galawat stated in his complaint that Devender presented certificates claiming a BEMS (Bachelor of Electropathy Medicine Surgery) degree and registration with the Electronomopathy Medical Council, Panchkula. However, the raiding team verified that these documents were not legally recognised for medical practice. The FIR further notes that the legitimacy and authority of the mentioned councils to issue such credentials need to be examined by appropriate regulatory bodies. Both individuals are now under investigation for unauthorised and potentially dangerous medical practice.

Fake police steal gold worth 6L from elderly woman
1 2 Pune: Two conmen, posing as police personnel, stole gold jewellery worth Rs6.24 lakh from an elderly woman in Warje after telling her to remove it for her safety. Under the pretext of helping her keep the jewellery safely in her handbag, the duo diverted the woman's attention and fled. The incident occurred at Warje on Tuesday around 5.30pm when the woman was on her way to a temple in the area. The woman later approached the Warje Malwadi police and lodged a complaint. The police registered a case under sections 204 (personating a public servant) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An officer from the Warje Malwadi police told TOI that on Tuesday evening, the woman, aged 61, was walking towards a temple near her house to offer prayers. "While walking on the footpath, a man approached her and told her one person was calling her. There was another man standing near the entrance of a hall along the road," the officer said. He said that the duo told the woman that they were police constables. The duo also told the woman that a murder happened in the area and she should remove her gold jewellery for safety. "Believing them, the woman removed her four gold bangles, gold chain, and Mangalsutra, all collectively worth Rs6.24 lakh. She was trying to keep it in her small purse. As the bangles were not fitting in the purse, the duo offered her help to keep it 'safe' in her bag," he said. The officer said that one of them took the purse and bangles from the woman's hand, pretended to keep it in the bag, and left. "The woman then went to the temple. When she checked her bag, she did not find her purse and the jewellery. She realised that she was duped and came to us," the officer said. He said that the police have collected the CCTV footage from the area. "Our investigations are on," he said.
