Gangs in Central Jail create challenges for prison officials
Nagpur: The prison authorities, like the police department, are forced to be on their toes due to the rivalry among various gangs lodged in Nagpur Central Prison. Sources stated there are around 25 different gangs lodged in Nagpur Central Jail, including 18 from Nagpur. With raging rivalries between most of them, the prison authorities have a huge task at hand to keep them apart. Following guidelines in the prison manual and various past court orders, the prison department deals with the task of keeping the rivals away. The Nagpur prison has witnessed several gang clashes within the barracks and also attacks on officials trying to intervene in their fights. Sources said the prison department is mostly left on its own to find each gang's profile and gather information about their rivalries, as there is no existing system in the police department to provide them with such information. Following the arrests of Hiranwar gang members, the prison department recently approached the court seeking permission to shift the goons elsewhere, as their arch-rival Sheikhu gang members are also lodged in the Nagpur Central Prison. Three accused and a woman of the Hiranwar gang are currently lodged in Nagpur Jail. Sources said the prison authorities have an uphill task every day to avoid a possible gang war or group clash in the jail. "On the basis of the information shared by the gang members, the officials decide how to keep the rivals separated in different barracks," said an official. The official also stated that the prison department prepares a conduct report and sends it to their higher officials with a proposal to transfer convicts from one prison to another if there is a genuine threat to their lives. "In the case of the under-trials, the court is approached with an application seeking a nod for their transfer to other prisons for security and safety," said the official. The jail authorities are also compelled to guard against clashes at some common meeting points like the interview or mulaquat room, hospital OPD, videoconferencing room, and also sometimes during events or programmes. Intra-gang rivalries too The dreaded gangster Pravesh Gupta, who is part of the Sheikhu gang, is learnt to be facing a life threat from a minor of his own group. The minor, rounded up by the cops for his role in cafe owner Avinash Bhusari's murder, is learnt to have vowed to eliminate Gupta. The Hiranwar gang's first target was Gupta, whom they wanted to bump off on April 14 during Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti rally. He escaped by a whisker. The Hiranwars later found Bhusari an easier target to bump off. Gupta is now the target of his own gang members. An insider said the minor, accused of Bhusari's murder, wanted to eliminate Gupta to avenge his humiliation of his father. MSID:: 120768907 413 |

Rising crime: CP suspends 3 PSIs, disbands 2 DB squads
Nagpur: In whirlwind actions on Thursday, city police commissioner Ravindra Singal suspended three officers of MIDC police station and disbanded detection branch (DB) squads of Ambazari and Kapil Nagar police stations under different circumstances. Singal delved into the cleansing act after rising crime rate put a question mark over policing in the city. During a surprise check at MIDC police station, Singal found three sub-inspectors — Nisha Gawali, Mahesh Pawar, and Vaishali Solankhe — absent from duty. The trio had reported sick without furnishing supporting medical documents. With the growing challenges of law and order and bandobast duties, the officers remained away from work. Learning about the lackadaisical approach, Singal ordered their immediate suspension. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo The city witnessed two gory murders in a span of four days — a gang war at Dharampeth and a contract killing at Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar last week, raising questions about security quotient of the city. Following the murders, citizen groups met Singal and expressed disappointment over the alleged nexus between a section of cops and some anti-social elements, paving the way for illegal activities. Miffed with the allegations, Singal decided to replace detection branch (DB) squads of Ambazari and Kapil Nagar police stations. While Ambazari police station 's DB personnel earned the ire of Singal following the murder of cafe owner Avinash Bhusari in Dharampeth by Hiranwar gang in a revenge act against arch-rival Sheikhu group on April 15, Kapil Nagar police station 's DB unit was replaced in the backdrop of murder of property dealer Ankush Kadu on April 19. Following the murders, crime branch had made crucial arrests in both the cases, which seem to have raised questions about functioning of the detection wings of Ambazari and Kapil Nagar.

Bulldozers to roll on illegal properties of gang war kingpin Hiranwar
Nagpur: Bulldozers are now set to run on gangsters' properties in the city in coming days, with the illegal properties of the Bunty Hiranwar gang now under police radar. After police chief Ravinder Singal and his team surveyed and searched the Hiranwar den at Chamadiya Vasti and Kachipura areas on Monday, cops are hammering out the legal procedure to ensure illegal constructions, extensions, and other structures owned by gangsters and their aides are demolished in coming days. Sources stated Ambazari police already dismantled a portion of illegal constructions of bootlegger Ingoley brothers at Pandharabodi on March 16 after they masterminded a brutal murder of a neighbour on suspicion of being a police informer. Similarly, police surveyed every nook and corner of the Hiranwar dens and unearthed their safe havens, where the conspiracy was hatched to eliminate Avinash Bhusari and other targets of the Sheikhu gang, like Parvesh Gupta, Dheeraj Bamburde, and others. Sources stated a police team under Singal scoured the abandoned houses of Hiranwars and their gang members for more weapons and ammunition. The cops are now unearthing details of property documents of the Hiranwar gang to kickstart their process with civic authorities for initiating the demolition procedure. With Supreme Court guidelines on demolition of the outlaws' properties in place, cops are adopting legal measures before dismantling houses of goons. "Even the MCOCA accused and members of other crime syndicates will face similar action," said a senior official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Al Basrah: AI guru Andrew Ng recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Aroun...
