Lalu Prasad Files Nomination For 13th Term As RJD President

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav filed his nomination on Monday for the post of the National President of the party for a record 13th-consecutive term.
He was accompanied by his son and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav, wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, and several senior party leaders.
A large number of party workers gathered at the RJD state headquarters in Patna, where chants of "Lalu Yadav Zindabad" echoed both inside and outside the office, creating a festive and emotional atmosphere.
Speaking to the media, Tejashwi Yadav expressed joy over his father's re-nomination.
"Lalu Prasad Yadav has completed 12 terms as the National President, and now he has filed for the 13th. It is a matter of great happiness that the party will continue to receive his guidance," he said.
According to party sources, no other candidate had filed a nomination for the top post till the 2 PM deadline, making Lalu Prasad Yadav's re-election almost certain.
The formal announcement is scheduled for July 5.
The party plans to celebrate the day as "Lalu Samman Diwas", marking his unopposed re-election.
One notable absence at the nomination event was that of former Bihar RJD President Jagdanand Singh, whose recent differences with Tejashwi Yadav have been a topic of political discussion.
His absence has further fuelled speculation about internal rifts within the party.
However, the event saw a renewed sense of energy among party workers. RJD leaders say the party is gearing up to enter full election mode under Lalu Yadav's leadership.
"The RJD organisation is strong. Our workers are energised and ready for the elections," Tejashwi Yadav added.
With the party already preparing for the electoral battle ahead, Lalu Yadav's continued leadership is being seen as a strategic move to unify the cadre and solidify its vote base ahead of a high-stakes Bihar Assembly election.

The post started a chatter, as people asked why Tej Pratap married in 2018 if he was in a relationship. The RJD leader married Aishwarya Rai, daughter of political heavyweight Chandrika Rai, in 2018. The couple separated months later and a divorce case is on. Amid this chatter, Tej Pratap claimed his profile had been hacked. "My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully," he wrote on X. The next day, Tej Pratap's father and RJD patriarch Lalu Yadav announced the decision to expel him from the party. He said "ignoring moral values" in personal life weakens the community's struggle for social justice. "The elder son's activities, public behaviour and irresponsible conduct are not in line with our family's values. In the current circumstances, I remove him from the party and the family. From now on, he will have no role in the party and the family. While the Nitish Kumar-led alliance of the BJP and JDU is looking to return to power, the RJD-Congress block is going all out to secure a win. Tej Pratap said that as an elder brother, he wants RJD's Tejashwi Yadav to become Bihar's Chief Minister. Lalu files papers for 13th term as RJD president
1 2 Patna: Former CM Lalu Prasad on Monday filed his nomination papers for the post of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national president. Having held the position since the party's inception in 1997, he is set to take charge for a 13th term (2025-2028). RJD national assistant election officer Chitranjan Gagan said the nomination papers would be formally scrutinised on Tuesday. "If the name is not withdrawn, a notification will be issued on Tuesday itself regarding the unopposed election of Lalu to the post of RJD national president," he said. However, the official certificate will be presented to Lalu at the RJD national council meeting in Patna on July 5, Gagan added.
