‘What's wrong with my wife being more famous, successful?' asks Parmeet Sethi: ‘Archana Puran Singh is the judge of the biggest Indian show'
Back in 1995, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol became everyone's favourite after the release of Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. While Raj and Simran became a household name, so did the character of Kuljeet, played by actor Parmeet Sethi. The romantic drama marked his acting debut with him playing Kajol's arrogant fiance in the film. Over the years, Parmeet took a backseat as an actor, and people eventually forgot his name. Meanwhile, his wife, Archana Puran Singh gained immense fame through her appearance as a judge on reality shows like Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma show. Her laughter became her identity. With Archana being more famous among her audience, Parmeet recently shared if it ever bothers him with his sons often joking about him being recognised as Archana's husband in their vlogs.
In an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, Parmeet said he finds the comparison between him and his wife 'extremely funny'. He said, 'You need to understand the public. I at least have the understanding that the person who is working more, seen more, is eventually recognised more. That is a given. Archana is the judge of India's biggest show (The Great Indian Kapil Show). So its obvious that people will know her more.'
He recalled the time when he was better known than his wife. 'There was also a time when I did shows and films like Dastaan and DDLJ, when people knew me, would spot me and be like, 'Arey yaar, yeh toh Parmeet Sethi hai, Kuljeet hai yeh toh'. At that time, Archana was a little bit in the background because at that point in time she was less active as an actor. These ups and downs are very normal. If today, I decide to get into daily soaps, I will reach every Indian household and people will know me by face and name.'

Parmeet said he took a conscious decision of leaving the screen and going behind the cameras as it is something he enjoys more than acting. 'I am not very obsessed with wanting to be recognised and known by others. I mostly enjoy writing and directing, so these things don't really matter to me. I laugh at it. I take it very lightly, hence we joke about it. Also, what is the problem in my wife being more famous and successful than me? It is a great thing. What's wrong in this? Archana and I don't have anything such in between us. We enjoy ourselves and we have that understanding.'
Parmeet Sethi married actress Archana Puran Singh back in 1992. They kept their marriage a secret for at least 8 years until Archana got pregnant with their first child.

Navjot Singh Sidhu shares how he stood up for Archana Puran Singh before returning to Kapil Sharma's show
Comedian Kapil Sharma recently delighted fans with the announcement of Navjot Singh Sidhu returning to his show. In his latest vlog, Sidhu described his comeback as a "homecoming" and reminisced about playing a pivotal role in helping Kapil launch his own show 13 years ago. (Also Read: The Great Indian Kapil Show: Salman Khan to be the first guest, confirms Navjot Singh Sidhu in BTS pics) Sidhu recounted his days as a judge on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, where Kapil Sharma rose to fame. He further mentioned that after the show, Kapil joined Comedy Circus, where, according to Sidhu, 'he was being exploited and lacked an individual identity.' Sidhu also recalled participating in Bigg Boss for just a month to earn money to buy a house in Amritsar. After his eviction, he said the then head of Colors, Raj Nayak, agreed to give Kapil a solo show only if Sidhu joined in. Kapil then created Comedy Nights With Kapil, with Dharmendra as the first guest. The show went on to become a massive success. However, Sidhu revealed that due to politics and conspiracies, he had to step away from it. A post shared by Navjot Singh Sidhu (@navjotsinghsidhu) He said, "Wherever I went, people used to ask me, 'Why aren't you returning to The Kapil Sharma Show?' And then, with hard work and destiny aligning, I got the show back when I appeared again. The love that episode received... Coming back to The Great Indian Kapil Show now feels like a Home run and homecoming." Speaking about Archana Puran Singh, who had replaced him on the show, Sidhu said he made sure to address about her before returning, 'Maine Archana ji ke liye bhi baat kari thi. Ki main Durga ka bhakt hoon, yeh kaise ho sakta hai ki unke dil ko thes pahuncha ke main wapas aaun. Vo farmaish bhi maan li and she is with me on the show. Thank you for all the love and affection. I feel honoured to be back on this show (I had also spoken to Archana ji. I am a devotee of Durga — how could I return by hurting her feelings? I fulfilled that request as well, and she is with me on the show).' The first season premiered on Netflix in 2024. Following the success of two seasons, the third is now set to premiere on June 21. The show features Archana Puran Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Sunil Grover, and Kiku Sharda. This season brings a new twist, offering fans a chance to showcase their talent on stage in every episode.

He said, 'Kapil Sharma rose to fame after he appeared in the show Laughter Challenge. Later, he was exploited in Comedy Circus, he didn't have an identity of his own.' He added, 'After my Bigg Boss stint, Kapil Sharma came to me and said, 'Paaji, I have a request. If you will agree to be part of my show, they will give me an independent show.' I was like who, 'He said Raj Nayak sahab'. Raj Nayak was the head of Colors back then. He wanted me to be the judge of the show. He wanted me as he wanted to increase the channel's TRP. We met over breakfast and I agreed to do it.' Sidhu shared that he actively took part in suggesting ideas to Kapil for his independent show and took credit in making it a huge success. 'I suggested Kapil Sharma to work on the show's format and how he should present it. When I came, we didn't have any guest. I suggested him to bring Dharmendra on show, and he did. Ever since, people missed me on the show and requested me to be back on the show.' Sidhu said it was the audience love that has brought his life to full circle with him once again returning to the show. 'On public demand, I made a rare appearance on the show with my wife and the amount of love I received was overwhelming. Now, that I am returning to the show it is like a home run for me.
