Amelia Dimoldenberg Embraces Bella Hadid's Heritage

Buzz Feed09-06-2025
Bella Hadid has always been incredibly proud of her Palestinian heritage, and is one of the biggest celebrities to regularly speak out in support of Palestine. The 28-year-old model uses her public profile to advocate for Palestinian rights, raise awareness amid Israel's occupation of the country, and donate generously to relief efforts.
For reference, Bella's dad, Mohamed Hadid, was born in Nazareth back in 1948, but he and his family were forced to flee to Lebanon before settling in Syria due to the 1948 Palestinian Nakba. This saw hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs flee their homes or get expelled from their country by Zionist paramilitaries, Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi, which later merged to become the Israel Defense Forces once Israel was established.
In December 2015, Mohamed shared a childhood photo of himself with his parents and three siblings on Instagram as he opened up about his family's history. He wrote at the time: 'Thats how we became refugees to Syria and we lost our home in Safad to a Jewish family that we sheltered when they were refugees from Poland on the ship that was sailing from country to country and no one would take them... they were our guest for 2 years till they made us refugees and they kicked us out of our own home. That my history.. Strange thing. That I and my family would do it again.'
And while Bella's Palestinian pride has always been a huge part of her public image, the star has faced severe backlash from Israel's supporters in recent months. With that in mind, people were delighted by her recent appearance on Chicken Shop Date, where interviewer Amelia Dimoldenberg subtly let the star know she was in a safe space to discuss and embrace her heritage.
'You are half-Dutch, half-Palestinian,' Amelia began. 'So, out of your mom and your dad, who makes the best food?'
'My dad,' Bella immediately replied. 'Growing up, it'd be, like, spreads… He doesn't cook for four people. Anybody that's Arab knows Arab parents cook for 50 people, and that's pretty much it. My dream for him one day would always be to open a restaurant.'
'Take care of his heritage,' Bella continued, before appearing to hesitate over how to phrase what she said next. 'And, like, the legacy of our, uhm… You know, who we are as people, and… And what our food is to the world.'
'I think the Palestinian restaurant sounds amazing,' Amelia quickly and enthusiastically interjected, at which point Bella visibly relaxed and smiled as she said: 'It would be incredible.'
Viewers were quick to pick up on this sweet moment between Amelia and Bella when the interview clip was shared to X, with one particularly viral tweet reading: 'I think Amelia let her know this was a safe space to say Palestine and I actually love that. You can see the hesitation a bit.''She was lowkey avoiding saying Palestinian, then Amelia said it,' a similarly popular tweet added. Somebody else wrote: 'Bella seemed so nervous to say the word so she just didn't (I don't blame her given the disgusting attacks on her), meanwhile Amelia made a point of saying the word Palestinian twice, making it really clear where she stood. Makes such a difference.''I really appreciate Amelia saying Palestine out loud bc watching Bella mince her words is actually painful to witness, she should never have to be so careful just talking about where her family is from,' another said. One more theorized: 'bella wasn't afraid to say palestine for her sake but rather didn't want to create any controversy for amelia and her show but then amelia let her know she was an ally and i think that's wonderful.'While somebody else circled back to the original topic as they tweeted: 'I encourage anyone to try Palestinian cuisine if you ever wanna try some of the most incredible food you will ever eat in your life."

Gal Gadot Says Snow White Flopped Because Of Israel

Let's not mince words: Disney's recent live-action remake of Snow White was a bit of a disaster. The reviews weren't great, and the box office performance was worse — grossing $205 million against a budget that hovered between $240 and $270 million. The film performed so badly that Disney reportedly halted production on any more live-action remakes at the time. The reason for why the film didn't do well really depends on who you ask. It is worth noting that there was rumors of "tension" between Snow White stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot during the film's press run, and that Rachel had received backlash for her support of the Palestinian people. Gal — who served in the Israeli Defense Force for two years — recently gave an interview on Israeli TV (via The Wrap) where she commented on Snow White's reception, and why she think the film underperformed. One notable comment: Despite the previous reports of tension, Gal said that she had a good time filming with Rachel. "We laughed, talked, and had fun," she said of her working relationship with her costar. Gal went on to claim that despite her belief that Snow White "would be a huge happening in all kinds of industries and also in Hollywood, is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to bring up things against Israel,' seemingly suggesting that pressure to speak against Israel contributed to Snow White's box office performance. 'You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening [in Israel] and what the reality is here, but in the end people decide for themselves,' she added. 'I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.' OK then!

Bella Hadid's Ballet-Core Sneakers Are Somehow Still in Stock

Bella Hadid has been keeping us fed on 'fits as of late. The supermodel-slash-cowboy WAG (she's living my dream, for real) has been alllll over L.A. serving looks—and I, for one, can't hit "add to cart" fast enough. I've already got tracking numbers in my inbox for her Mango slip dress and these red-hot gingham capris, but her latest look just might be my fave inspo yet. Earlier this week, Bella stepped out in the perfect Labor Day-coded look: an all-white denim Canadian tuxedo vibe complete with an ab-barring crop top and the it girl shoe of summer—ballet-inspired sneakers. While this is hardly the first time the trending style has made its way across my desk—Dua Lipa lovessss the Adidas version and Bella herself has been influencing the Cosmo office since April—it's the first time I found myself personally swayed on the subject. Which, sorry to make it all about me, but feels big! This particular shoe is just that good! The style in question, Vivaia's Jogger Re-Nylon Sneakerina, feels like a slightly more classic (yet still cutesie!) take on the trend. The design is slim and sooo lightweight à la a ballet flat but with a more traditional sneaker look. The grippy rubber outsole adds the perf amount of traction, while the elasticized heel ensures a comfy 'fit from the fist wear—and also makes them really easy to pack. The recycled re-nylon fabric looks and feels like buttery soft leather but is so much easier to care for! Seriously, you can toss these bad boys straight in the washing machine and they'll look good as new. While I'm (clearly!) infatuated with the jogger version, Bella's also been spotted in Vivaia's Square-Toe Lace-Up Satin Sneakerina, which shoppers are similarly obsessed with. "My feet can breathe even [on] a long walk. It's like walking without shoes," one reviewer says. "I took them to London and Paris and walked around for miles. The sole is super cushy and saved my feet even on European cobblestone streets," another adds. As for the rest of Bella's look, while I couldn't find her exact tank, I am feeling pretty confident she's sporting these Agolde low-slung baggy jeans and the nearly sold-out matching jacket. Since I'm too impatient to wait for a restock in my size, I'm grabbing this similar Madewell version that will coordinate just as well. Oh, and when you see me still wearing this full white fit (down to the Sneakerinas) even after Labor your business <3 Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. She loves strong coffee, eating her way through the Manhattan food scene, and her dog, Murray. She promises not to talk about herself in third person IRL.

Bella Hadid Can't Stop Wearing Vivaia's Sneakerinas – Here's How To Style The Divisive Shoe

The more Bella Hadid steps out in sneakerinas, the less and less divisive the trend starts to look. It's a story as old as time: supermodels managing to make just about anything look appealing. With the ballet flat renaissance well and truly underway, 2025 was the year a less 'palatable' hybrid trainer version came into the mainstream. But, lest we forget, ugly shoes are fashion catnip. Soon this lovechild was influencing the shape of new sneaker drops and street style spotlights. Goodbye chunky soles and Triple S vibes, hello to the slimline silhouette we loved back in the Seventies, with sporty side stripes, suede uppers and featherweight serrated soles. There's a reason Puma Speedcats, adidas Sambas, Onitsuka Tigers and Miu Miu Plumes are having such a moment. Now, Vivaia has hopped on this bandwagon with a new take on its cult Cristina shoes. If the original design was delicate and balletic, crafted in lustrous satin and dyed in pastel hues, the new Yancy style is sportier than ever. Bella Hadid was spotted out in West Hollywood just this week modelling the creamy 'Natural' shade with tonal Jean Paul Gaultier jeans and a matching denim jacket. Made from padded Re-Nylon (that's recycled Nylon, for the non Prada-mad out there), the Vivaia Yancy has swooping overstitching and suede panelling, as well as a retro rounded toe. Unlike the candy-coloured Cristinas, this shoe comes in basic black, white, cream and a bold red. Of course this isn't the first time Bella has been spotted wearing Vivaia. In fact, the shoe brand has the model to thank for its sudden success. While, yes, the direct-to-consumer label has garnered a roster of celebrity fans – Selena Gomez, Julia Roberts, Alexa Chung and Katie Holmes, to name but a few – since its launch five years ago, in 2025 Vivaia entered the big leagues. When the Cristina sneakerina launched in February, it took less than a month for it to sell out – all thanks to Bella, who was seen wearing a a black pair with a Saint Laurent bag and wool overcoat in early March 2025. Two short weeks later and the Orabella founder was out in sneakerinas yet again: this time in New York, in Vivaia's ivory Cristina with capri leggings and a black Saint Laurent bomber. Cue another sell-out situation. Naturally, in April of this year, it was impossible to get your hands on a pair. But, luckily, Vivaia has kept the drops coming, with fresh new colourways landing all the time – namely butter yellow for summer and an on-trend burgundy to see you through the autumn season. We're big fans of the square-toed full vamp Cristina that Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray Hamlin own, but these shoes also come in a more balletic version, the Yanka, for the truly trainer-averse. Charli XCX has these lower-cut, rounded-toed sneakerinas in pink – she was seen wearing them at Glastonbury and out with friends in NYC. As a self-confessed trainer hater, my life changed the day Vivaia's Cristina sneakerinas landed on my desk. I find – believe it or not – classic trainers to be uncomfortable and I hate the silhouette they create. I was partial to a slim Nike Cortez once, but would rather opt for a heeled boot than ever wear a dress with trainers. Then, ballet flats returned and my feet were freed from their clip-clopping prison. However, there are some outfits that the classic ballet flat can easily take into 'twee' territory, and this is where the sneakerina really comes into its own. That injection of easy athleisure was just what my stripy Ganni midi needed to feel less mumsy (I am a mum, the fear is real), and suddenly my all-black outfits had a cherry on top in the form of low-key flats, not heels. You get the gist: sneakerinas are wearable. No one should be intimidated by this shoe. It goes just as well with an unabashedly girlish midi or mini (think Simone Rocha or Cecilie Bahnsen) as it does with streetwear or sleek Skims loungewear. And, as Bella has proven, it also goes particularly well with this season's favourite capri pant and a relaxed leather bomber (or any bomber jacket for that matter).
