Android Auto Spotify update: Introduced ‘Jam' to make musical journeys more fun

Time of India09-07-2025
Android Auto Spotify Jam feature is transforming in-car entertainment by making every drive a collaborative playlist experience. Debuting after its reveal at Google I/O 2025, this upgrade lets passengers join a shared Spotify Jam session via a QR code on the Android Auto display—putting everyone in the musical director's seat .
The feature, supported on Android Auto, integrates smoothly with Spotify's updated UI, which now includes a prominent Downloaded section, floating search shortcut, and offline-playlist indicators.
Whether you're commuting with family or streaming with friends, this collaborative music feature optimizes ride sharing and group drives. Stay tuned to find out why this upgrade is a game-changer for mobile infotainment.
What's the new major update?
The streaming behemoth Spotify has released a revised UI and a number of new features, the most notable of which is Jam, in a significant update to its Android Auto app. Spotify's collaborative group listening feature, Jam, is now officially available for Android Auto with the release of version 9.0.58.596.
Jam, which was first hinted at at the recent Google I/O 2025, enables drivers to conduct a shared playback session using the infotainment screen of their vehicle.
While the host maintains complete control over playback, passengers can participate by scanning a QR code, adding music to the queue in real time. According to Spotify's news release, "this makes collaborative listening seamless while on the go."
With Spotify's current goal of making music more participatory, the move is an obvious gesture to road trips and carpooling.
How to access?
The latest version of Spotify Android Auto is currently accessible on the Google Play Store and will be made available to users globally over time.
The latest version of Spotify also accommodates places with inadequate connectivity, guaranteeing that music will continue to play even in isolated locations. The in-app library now features a new "Downloaded" tab that provides faster access to offline content.
In order to prevent users from inadvertently queueing tracks that require data, songs that have already been downloaded are now clearly noted.
For customers planning lengthy travels without dependable internet or traveling across unreliable network zones, this improvement is especially helpful.
Smarter search is now on
Up until recently, the only way for Android Auto users to start voice searches was with Google Assistant, which skipped the results and started playing music. The floating search button in the latest version opens a separate tab where users can peruse and choose tunes.
Safety is also prioritized in the updated user interface. With its new interface designed for in-car navigation, Spotify has made it easier to browse, choose, and control music with less visual clutter.
Whether you're driving alone on the highway or with pals on a road trip, Spotify's most recent upgrade positions itself as more than simply a music player—it's the soundtrack to every journey.
Spotify is improving the in-car music experience and advancing Android Auto by fusing social elements like Jam with more intelligent offline access.

The estimated shipping date for orders placed on Aug. 21 is October 11, as per a report by USA Today. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: 1 simple trick to get all TV channels Techno Mag Learn More Both single blind boxes and complete sets will be made available. Whole sets include six different boxes from the new series. What is a Labubu? Labubu is the creation of Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who first introduced the character in 2015 through picture books based on Nordic mythology. The doll features a large head, sharp teeth, and prominent eyes, often described as equal parts mischievous and adorable. Live Events According to Pop Mart, 'Despite a mischievous look, Labubu is kind-hearted and always wants to help, but often accidentally achieves the opposite.' Over the years, Labubu has become the centerpiece of The Monsters line, appearing in a wide range of costumes and styles. From plush toys dressed as pumpkins to figurines carrying soda bottles or styled as shrimp tempura, the collectible has become a global phenomenon. What Are Blind Boxes? Blind boxes are collectible packages that conceal their contents until opened, adding an element of surprise for buyers. Popular across Asia and increasingly in Western markets, blind boxes can feature characters from franchises such as Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh, or Japanese manga like One Piece . Some items within a series are produced in smaller numbers, making them rarer and more valuable. Collectors often seek out these rare editions, sometimes reselling them at higher prices in online marketplaces. Labubu blind boxes, part of Pop Mart's The Monsters collection, have been among the company's most popular offerings. Price of the New Labubu Series The Big into Energy blind box has been listed at USD 27.99, not including taxes and shipping charges. For those opting to purchase a complete set of six blind boxes, the total cost will be USD 167.94. Pop Mart is also offering free shipping for orders above USD 29 made through its app and website. Previous Sell-outs Signal Strong Demand Earlier this week, when customers attempted to pre-order the Big into Energy Labubu blind boxes, the items sold out within less than a minute. Many users reported receiving error codes that indicated the items were 'too popular.' After refreshing the app, buyers found that all units had been sold. With tonight's relaunch, demand is expected to be equally strong, prompting fans to prepare well in advance. Growing Popularity of Labubu What began as a regional art project has grown into a worldwide craze. Labubu keychains and plush toys are now sold across Asia, Europe, and North America. The character's quirky appearance, featuring nine sharp teeth and oversized eyes, has contributed to its cult following. While some consider Labubu's design frightening, others regard it as irresistibly cute. This split in perception has only added to its charm, fueling conversations on social media and enhancing its cultural appeal. Beware of Counterfeit Labubus, or 'Lafufus' With Labubu's growing popularity, counterfeit versions of the toy—often called 'Lafufus'—have appeared online. Consumer safety groups have issued alerts warning fans against fraudulent sellers. Signs of counterfeit Labubus include: Steep discounts on unofficial websites Packaging without a holographic Pop Mart sticker or QR code Lack of preview cards inside the box Incorrect details, such as the wrong number of teeth (authentic Labubus have nine) No UV stamp on newer versions of the doll Missing safety labeling on packaging Resealable plastic bags instead of tear-open packaging Authorities advise customers to purchase only from Pop Mart's official app, TikTok account, Amazon store, or verified retailers to avoid counterfeit products. Labubus Collectors' Market and Resale Value The resale market for Labubu blind boxes has surged in recent years. Rare Labubu figurines and plushes often sell for several times their retail price on platforms like eBay or dedicated collector forums. Experts note that the limited supply and unpredictable nature of blind boxes drive this secondary market. For some collectors, securing a rare Labubu is both a personal achievement and a potential financial investment, as per a report by USA Today. Pop Mart's Expansion Beijing-based Pop Mart has become a global leader in the designer toy industry. By collaborating with independent artists and launching series like Labubu's The Monsters , the company has established a strong presence in both Asian and Western markets. The company's strategy of combining exclusivity with surprise has proven successful, especially among younger buyers drawn to limited-edition collectibles. Labubu Blind Boxes: How to Secure Tonight's Pre-order Given past sell-outs, collectors are advised to: Download or update the Pop Mart app in advance. Log in early to avoid technical glitches. Ensure payment details are ready to streamline checkout. Refresh the app quickly if error messages appear. Even with preparation, however, many fans may still miss out, given the expected surge in demand. FAQs When do pre-orders for the new Labubu blind boxes open? Pre-orders reopen tonight, August 21, at 9:30 p.m. ET, exclusively on the Pop Mart mobile app. Where can I buy the new Labubu blind boxes? The Pop Mart app (available on the App Store and Google Play) is the only place for tonight's pre-orders. Fans are advised to update the app beforehand to avoid issues.

Blackpink headlines Wembly: It's not that big a deal for the K-pop group

Earlier this week, K-pop group Blackpink made history as the first Korean girl group to headline London's iconic Wembley Stadium for concerts over two nights. This feat has been previously accomplished by the likes of Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, and Blackpink's fellow K-pop stars, BTS. But, as someone aware of K-pop for roughly a decade, and who took a deep dive into it during the Covid lockdown, I wonder whether playing up such milestones is still warranted. And it's not Blackpink or BTS alone; almost all K-pop groups and artists see their fans highlight everything from an award nomination to daily Spotify streaming numbers. Part of this has to do with the way the industry ecosystem has made true success contingent on vocal fan support. After all, K-pop permeated the internet with (or infected it, if you prefer) terms such as 'stan' (meaning a fervent fan) and 'delulu' or being delusional about the artists one admires. The latter was recently added to the Cambridge Dictionary, proving that the genre is already impacting culture, including the English language itself. There is also the fact that is the unusual makes the news, and a girl group from a small East Asian country, often singing in their native language and conquering a supposedly masK-psive milestone in London, fits the bill. The group itself described it as 'a dream come true', but anyone even vaguely aware of global and cultural news knows it's just another item in what is already a pretty well-feathered cap. Nine years after their debut, Blackpink has an audience spanning continents. This won't come as a surprise to anyone who has seen either young children hooked on member Rosé's viral hit 'APT', or spotted Lisa in the third season of HBO's The White Lotus. At this stage, success and megahits are the norm for them, not the exception. It's also part of the larger story of globalisation and the growth of K-pop. Since it began as a genre in the '90s, countless artists — singer-dancers, rappers, songwriters and producers — have helped propel it forward through relentless hard work and dedication to perfecting their craft. Government policies also supported such cultural exports along the way, as they recognised the limited room for domestic consumption in their own, 50 million-strong nation. Beginning with success in the East and Southeast Asian markets, particularly the neighbouring, lucrative Japanese market, the doors to the seemingly impermeable Western audience have now been blown open. Back in 2021, Blackpink's label revealed that an online paid concert saw the biggest audience, in descending order, in the US, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Brazil, Canada and the UK. That is not to say that some in the West, especially established music critics, are still on the fence about the musical merits of K-pop. Such criticisms can be fair at times. Many will also resort to lazy racist or sexist descriptions, but that battle is a larger one, and not exclusive to music. With the sheer scale of K-pop groups' successes, it's time to stop treating their artists as outliers. Everyone loves a good underdog story, especially fans, and that will still hold in a world that judges success in terms of age-old norms. However, one stadium in London, granted that it's an iconic one, is likely to be a footnote in the Blackpink story. K-pop itself could also do with a deeper, more substantial and critical lens in terms of the discourse around it, rather than stereotypes or exaggerated praise for everything put out to fans. Take the fact that Blackpink is not just the biggest K-pop girl group at the moment, but also the biggest girl group globally. It is worth examining why the group has succeeded even in the English-speaking markets, when previous pop girl groups have largely faded away within a much shorter duration. Or, the fact that the group, and many others, is enjoying the fruits of global popularity, but is often unlikely to respond to fan demands for a clearer articulation of their political stand. This is not just a theoretical concern. A section of BTS fans recently expressed disappointment after an official McDonald's collaboration was announced for multiple countries, including Israel. A sizable group of fans has earlier demanded that the artists boycott pro-Israel brands, given the attacks on Gaza, and has frequently voiced frustrations over labels' lack of interest in engaging with such questions. A better quality of conversation on K-pop could also ultimately improve how artists and audiences see each other, and introduce more accountability on the part of the notoriously rigid music labels. Hoping for that is anything but delulu.
