KOTA KINABALU (June 14): The 50th anniversary of the partnership between KTS and Suzuki Marine marks half a century of strong collaboration and shared success.
To commemorate this meaningful journey, KTS and Suzuki Marine, together with the Kinabalu Yacht Club, had launched the 'Clean Up the World Campaign – Suzuki Clean Ocean Project' here on Saturday.
This programme represented more than just a campaign, as it is a collective commitment by both parties to protecting the oceans and preserving coastlines for generations to come.
The clean-up campaign is a global initiative by Suzuki Marine, bringing together businesses and local communities from around the world to clean up beaches, remove marine debris, improve ocean health and most importantly, raise public awareness about the importance of marine conservation.
Since this global project began, it has reached over 26 countries, engaged more than 20,000 volunteers and successfully removed over 120 tonnes of marine waste from the oceans.
The Saturday event not only celebrates the long-standing partnership between KTS and Suzuki Marine, but also marks the beginning of their anniversary series with a strong message of environmental responsibility.
KTS Sabah operations manager Wong Kee Mee said moving forward, the company will continue to give back to society, promote sustainability and provide cleaner, more enjoyable boating experiences.
Wong underscored their commitment to building a future where people and nature can thrive together.
'Today, we are joined by passionate volunteers from KTS, Suzuki Marine, the Kinabalu Yacht Club and members of the community.
'Their energy and participation show the power of working together towards a shared mission — to protect our precious marine environment.
'Through this campaign, we hope to inspire more companies, more communities, and more individuals to take action and join us in preserving our oceans for the future,' he said.
Also present were KTS Kota Kinabalu branch manager Wong Ching Diak, KTS Group Sabah area senior office manager Paul Hii, Suzuki dealer Ha Haw Chiong, KYC manager Tony Lai and KYC head of committee Omar Baki.

Singaporeans told: Unite to face the challenges

Published on: Sunday, August 10, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 10, 2025 By: Malay Mail Text Size: Fireworks display during Singapore's 60th National Day, with celebrations returning to the Padang today. SINGAPORE: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has urged Singaporeans to hold fast to the spirit of unity that built the nation six decades ago, warning that the years ahead will bring sterner tests amid a more fractured and volatile world. Delivering his National Day message yesterday from the Padang — the historic field where Singapore's first National Day Parade was held in 1966 — Wong said national cohesion, resolve and performance would be crucial to staying ahead in an era of deepening geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. Advertisement 'As a small nation, we cannot afford to be divided. Our unity has always been our source of strength. When we stand together, there is nothing we cannot overcome,' he said, recalling how the Republic had prevailed against the odds since gaining independence in 1965. The address came on the eve of Singapore's 60th National Day, with celebrations returning to the Padang today. Before the message, a five-minute clip of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew reading the Proclamation of Singapore — the document that marked the country's separation from Malaysia — was screened. Wong, who had spoken during the May general election of a changing and uncertain global landscape, said the situation had since worsened. Advertisement 'New conflicts have broken out. Geopolitical tensions have deepened. Barriers to trade are hardening. And protectionist sentiments are worsening,' he said. 'To put it bluntly: The global order that enabled Singapore to thrive for decades is unravelling before our eyes.' Bigger powers, he noted, are increasingly willing to use economic, technological and geopolitical means to tilt the playing field in their favour — making it harder for small states like Singapore to compete. With the global economy expected to remain sluggish, Wong outlined steps the Singapore government is taking to safeguard livelihoods. The Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce, he added, is rolling out targeted support for businesses and workers while seeking new growth opportunities. While Singapore's economy remains resilient, he said the outlook is 'highly uncertain'. He also said that the country is therefore refreshing its economic strategy to strengthen competitiveness, deepen capabilities and secure its future. Five committees will study key areas including technology, entrepreneurship and productivity, he added. 'We must move faster, adapt quicker and innovate smarter,' Wong said, adding that technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics must be applied meaningfully across industries. While such transitions may cause disruption, he also said the Singapore government will expand training opportunities, bolster social safety nets and help those facing setbacks to bounce back. Measures such as the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme have already been introduced to assist the involuntarily unemployed, he added. Wong said more will be done to uplift lower-income families and widen opportunities for all, regardless of background. But this, he stressed, must be a joint effort. 'The government is partnering community groups, businesses, unions and individuals to shape solutions, put ideas into action, and make a difference,' he said. 'Singapore's future must be built by all of us together — through our actions, our compassion, and our willingness to lift up one another.' He also thanked voters for giving his government the political mandate to act decisively in his first electoral contest as prime minister, in which the People's Action Party won 87 out of 97 seats and 65.6 per cent of the vote. 'Your wisdom and trust give my government the political assurance to act boldly, and the confidence to lead with conviction,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Singapore Must Remain Exceptional To Stay Ahead, Says PM Wong

By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Singapore must remain exceptional to stay ahead, as the world becomes increasingly uncertain amid deepening geopolitical tensions and rising protectionist sentiments, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said. Speaking on the eve of the country's 60th National Day celebration, Wong, who is also Finance Minister, emphasised that the need for Singapore to move faster, adapt quicker, and innovate smarter by embracing new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and robotics, and applying them meaningfully across the economy. bootstrap slideshow 'We must enable our people, workers and businesses to make full use of these tools, and sharpen our competitive edge. 'The pace of change will be rapid and not always comfortable. There will be disruption. Not everyone will find the transition easy,' he said in a pre-recorded televised National Day Message from the Padang. Wong said the government would continue to walk this journey with the people, including by expanding opportunities for learning and skills upgrading, strengthening social safety nets, and helping every Singaporean who faces setbacks to bounce back. He noted that Singapore is refreshing its economic strategy to strengthen competitiveness, deepen capabilities, and secure its future. On Aug 4, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced that the government has formed five commitiees as it would undertake an Economic Strategy Review to consider new ideas and approaches aimed at strengthening the nation's global competitiveness and economic relevance. T-shirts, medals for those who complete Penang bridge run

(From left) Low, Saw and Lim showing the finisher T-shirts for all three categories that will be given out during Aspen Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon in Batu Kawan. — KT GOH/The Star ALL those who complete Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) on Dec 14 will walk away with a finisher T-shirt and medal. Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said PBIM has grown to become one of the most anticipated marathons in the region and in Penang's sports tourism calendar. 'PBIM brings together tens of thousands of runners, supporters, family members, and businesses, turning a single morning of sport into a weekend of large-scale activity that boosts the state economy.' He said registration places were filling up quickly. 'Our target is 25,000 participants and so far, we have over 16,000 registrations,' Wong said during a press conference at Komtar. Also present were Ikea Batu Kawan local marketing manager Vivienne Low, Klippa deputy commercial manager Jo Saw and Aspen trade divisional director Janice Lim. Wong said the marathon traversed Penang Second Bridge, making PBIM the longest bridge run in the region. 'Running across that bridge, surrounded by water, wind and sunrise, is an experience. 'Which is why we feel every journey needs to be honoured. 'This year, we are proud to announce that finishers in all categories – Full Marathon (42.195km), Half Marathon (21.1km) and 10km – will receive a finisher T-shirt and specially designed finisher medal. 'Whether you are wearing it for your next run or just as a reminder of what you have accomplished, we want it to be something that runners are proud to put on,' he added. Wong said medals would be the same for finishers of all three categories. 'For many runners, that T-shirt and medal are more than a souvenir; they symbolise the achievement of a personal milestone.' He said pre-run events were being organised by Penang Forward Sports Club. 'There will be four held before Dec 14. Two have been held and two more will be conducted in the months to come. 'The four pre-run sessions are held at different locations on the island and mainland, ensuring greater accessibility and convenience for participants. 'This event is free and runners can choose to join either the 5km or 10km categories.' He said the sessions would help runners boost their stamina, get familiar with race conditions and adjust to Penang's weather and routes. Wong said last year's PBIM attracted over 23,000 participants. That translated into thousands of hotel bookings, restaurant visits, retail spending, and digital impressions online showcasing Penang to the world, he noted. 'I see PBIM as more than a race; it is an engine for economic stimulation, a platform for cultural celebration and a movement that promotes health and unity,' Wong added. PBIM will be hosted at Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan. To register, visit
