Bengaluru auto driver celebrates birthday with machete-cut cartridge cake, lands in soup: Report
An autorickshaw driver's dramatic birthday celebration in Bengaluru landed him in trouble with the law after a video of him cutting a cartridge-shaped cake with a machete went viral. The incident took place on the night of May 31 in Gudibande of Chikkaballapur in the outskirts of the city, when Anil Kumar, a resident of Vychukurahalli, was celebrating with friends, family, and colleagues, reported The Times of India.

According to the report, the festivities were like any other birthday party—until the cake-cutting moment. Instead of a standard cake and knife, Kumar pulled out a machete and sliced into a cake designed to resemble a bullet cartridge, drawing cheers and applause from the guests. The celebration continued with a cocktail party, and Kumar later took the machete home.
However, the viral video caught the attention of the Gudibande police, who acted swiftly after someone forwarded them the clip. 'Upon receiving the footage, we booked Anil Kumar under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS),' said Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Choukesy to TOI. Kumar, who reportedly has no prior criminal record, was arrested on Monday and produced before a court, where he was fined ₹1,000.

Authorities are now taking further preventive action. Kumar is expected to appear before the tahsildar on Tuesday, where he will be required to sign a security bond ensuring he will not repeat such behavior or engage in any activity considered antisocial.
'When an executive magistrate has reason to believe that an individual may disturb public peace, a show-cause notice can be issued, asking why they should not be bound to maintain peace for up to one year,' Choukesy told the publication.
This isn't the first time Karnataka police have cracked down on over-the-top birthday celebrations involving weapons. A few years ago, Bengaluru's Girinagar police issued a similar notice to Kannada actor 'Duniya' Vijay after he was seen in a viral video cutting a cake with a sword during his birthday celebrations, which also led to a case for obstructing traffic.

Spurious cancer drug racket busted, 6 arrested in 3 raids: Delhi Police
The Delhi Police Crime Branch busted a well-organised racket that allegedly sold spurious, unauthorised, and unregistered cancer drugs to unsuspecting patients. Six people were arrested in three simultaneous raids — at Laxmi Nagar, Budh Vihar and Chandni Chowk — and counterfeit medication worth several lakhs was seized, police said Wednesday. Police said the accused targeted cancer patients via social media groups, claiming to offer expensive drugs at discounted rates. In Laxmi Nagar, Neeraj Kumar (23) and Anil Kumar (30) from a pharmaceutical firm were arrested with five counterfeit Opdivo injections lacking importer details. In Budh Vihar, police said Dhanesh Sharma (23) and Dheeraj Kumar were found with three boxes of Cetuximab, six Opdivo injections, and three boxes of Lenvatinib. In Chandni Chowk's Bhag-irath Palace, Rohit Bhatti (24) and Jyoti Grover (52) were arrested with a large haul of spurious medicines. Drug inspectors from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation confirmed these drugs were unauthorised for sale in India. 'During the inquiry, it was found that the owner of a shop (in Chandni Chowk), Naveen Arya, is the kingpin of the racket. He remained behind bars for about three months in a similar case. After he got out on bail, he activated this syndicate, as the profit margin is very high. The drugs, valued at several lakhs of rupees, were sealed as evidence. The accused were selling these counterfeit medications at discounted rates, exploiting vulnerable cancer patients and endangering their lives,' said DCP (Crime Branch) Vikram Singh. Arya is yet to be arrested. Police said their investigation revealed that the syndicate sourced the counterfeit drugs at low prices from illicit suppliers and sold them to unsuspecting patients at rates between Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 — far below the market value of Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 lakh. The accused allegedly admitted to exploiting desperate patients by offering counterfeit drugs marked as 'Not for Sale in India', said police. Technical analysis of seized mobile phones showed the accused were connected to multiple victims through social media groups, where patients often posted appeals for affordable medication. The Crime Branch is working to identify and contact affected victims, said police. A total of 66 spurious drug items were seized. A case has been registered under sections 276 (adulteration of drugs), 277 (sale of adulterated drugs), 278 (sale of drug as a different drug or preparation), 318(4) (cheating), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and 3(5) (common intent) of the BNS, police said.

Cabinet nod to new bill for welfare of gig workers
1 2 Ranchi: The state cabinet on Wednesday approved The Jharkhand Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill of 2025 for tabling it during the next session of the state assembly. Briefing the media after the meeting, state finance secretary Prashant Kumar said the proposal was moved by labour employment and training department. "The bill is to streamline and work towards welfare of gig workers in the state who are engaged with various online based platforms," he said. After the enhancement of the law, a Jharkhand Platform Based Gig Workers' Board will be formed in the state. "The board will ensure their registration, data keeping and work towards their welfare. A separate welfare fund for gig workers will also be set up," Kumar added. The cabinet approved 11 other proposals during Wednesday's meeting. The cabinet gave it's nod for the creation of teaching and non-teaching staff positions in the newly established government engineering colleges in Bokaro and Godda as per AICTE norms and regulations. "For each college, 85 teaching and 125 non-teaching positions have been created. It will incur an expense of Rs 41.87 crore annually to the state exchequer," Kumar said. The cabinet also approved formation of the Jharkhand Municipal Contractor Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2025, which will make GST registration in state mandatory for entity seeking to take work orders or contracts from the state urban development department. Administrative approval was also given for the transfer, widening, strengthening, and reconstruction of the Pakur-Barharwa main road with an estimated budget of around Rs 40,39 crore. The cabinet also sanctioned transferring of all posts of doctors and medical staff at jails across the state to the health department from home department for better management of resources. It also approved a proposal to reinstate 25 teachers, whose appointed were declared illegal in a in CBI investigation but was later allowed by the Supreme Court and Jharkhand High Court, allowing them to receive their due benefits and pensions.

Both Kumar and Paswan are allies in the NDA, and the letter assumes political significance ahead of the crucial Bihar assembly elections. According to sources, Paswan's intervention also underscores the internal complexities of the alliance and signals his intent to 'carve a larger role for himself in the state'. New Delhi: Union Minister Chirag Paswan has written to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the Muzaffarpur rape-murder case, expressing concern about the 'profound failure' of law and order and the public health system in the state. Criticising the PMCH, Paswan wrote: 'Instead of providing the necessary treatment to save the girl, the hospital left her in the ambulance, wasting precious time. This is not just negligence, but a crime against humanity.' 'The incident of gang rape and the subsequent attempted murder of a nine-year-old Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur's Kudhni area on 26 May has shaken the entire state. This horrific crime is not only the brutal killing of an innocent life but also highlights a deep breakdown in law and order, social consciousness, and the public health system of Bihar,' he added. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the PMCH on 1 June. Paswan alleged that she had to wait for over six hours in the ambulance before being admitted, severely affecting her chances of survival. This isn't the first time Paswan has positioned himself in opposition to Kumar. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)—before the split between Chirag Paswan and his uncle Pashupati Paras—had contested solo, despite being part of the NDA at the Centre. The party won just one of the 137 seats it contested, but inflicted significant damage on JD(U), which saw its tally drop to 43 from 71 in 2015. LJP's 5.7 percent vote share reportedly affected JD(U)'s fortunes in at least 28 constituencies. 'Nitish Kumar ji was once synonymous with good governance—that situation has changed drastically. Chirag Paswan is only reflecting the reality on the ground. Issues of lawlessness and crumbling healthcare must be urgently addressed ahead of the elections,' said a senior LJP (Ram Vilas) leader. He called this 'a crime against humanity'. The union minister has urged the CM to arrest the accused immediately and ensure they receive the 'harshest' punishment. He has also called for a high-level judicial inquiry into the conduct of the PMCH hospital staff, demanding that 'criminal charges be filed against those who deliberately delayed treatment' and that 'immediate suspension and departmental action' follow. Representatives of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) have visited the victim's family and assured them of 'every possible effort to ensure justice.' 'But until firm and transparent action is taken against all responsible—both within the government and the administration—justice will remain incomplete and unacceptable,' Paswan concluded. However, a senior JD(U) leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said this was not the first time that Paswan had publicly criticised the Bihar government. But such tactics may not help him in the long run. He could have communicated these issues without going public,' said the JDU leader.
