PAPAR: The Safe Internet Campaign (Kempen Internet Selamat, KIS) plays a crucial role in strengthening digital literacy and awareness, especially among students, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He said the campaign reflects a strategic approach by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which goes beyond internet access to focus on safe, ethical, and responsible internet use. 'We can use the internet, TikTok, WhatsApp but we must always be cautious. Don't use it to bully, to scam, or to harass others. 'I hope everything you learned today will be put into practice. And to the teachers, I urge you to be extra careful,' he said during an engagement with the SM St. Mary community in conjunction with the campaign. Fahmi explained that one initiative under KIS was to appoint Safe Internet Icons for schools. 'Each month, we will share the latest information on scams because we don't want even teachers to fall victim,' he added. At the event, Fahmi presented a Safe Internet Campaign poster to SM St. Mary principal Philip Chew, and awarded K-Dat Icon vests to Norzanidah Hazeyani Abdul Kini (teacher) and Faradira Haratio (student). The teacher icon is responsible for promoting online safety awareness within the school, while the student icon serves as a peer guide for safe, smart, and ethical internet use. Driver dies, teen injured in Ranau crash

RANAU: A 42-year-old man died and another was injured after the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in collided with a palm fruit-laden lorry along KM45 of the Ranau-Telupid Road on Sunday. The Fire and Rescue Department said the car, believed to be heading towards Ranau, had veered into the opposite lane before the crash at about 1.15pm. The driver, Sylvester Pius Gulmit, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the Paginatan Health Clinic. His 18-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, including scratches and bruises. Russia says 291 Ukrainian drones downed
MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russian air defence units downed 291 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Sunday. "Air defence systems downed two guided aircraft bombs, three projectiles of Czech-made Vampire multiple rocket launch systems and 291 fixed-wing drones," the ministry said on its Telegram channel. CPO misappropriation syndicate busted in LD, worth RM2.29 million

LAHAD DATU: Marine police have uncovered a crude palm oil (CPO) misappropriation syndicate worth RM2.29 million after raiding an illegal storage facility at Batu 15 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan. Sabah Region Four Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the raid on July 25 at 12.50pm led to the discovery of 77,590kg of CPO. Officers also seized two trucks, a van, and an oil storage tank during the operation. Five Malaysians and a foreign national, aged between 20 and 53, were detained to assist with investigations under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Regulations 2005.
