Offer AI programmes, varsities urged
TAWAU: The Ministry of Higher Education has called on all universities to offer programmes or establish faculties related to artificial intelligence (AI) in preparation for the growing demand for AI talents across various industries.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir ( pic ) said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia has taken the lead in AI education by establishing the country's first AI faculty.
'We have made it clear that all universities should offer and open faculties and programmes related to AI, and the government will continue to monitor the latest developments in this field.
'In addition to AI, we are also seeing new developments in quantum technology,' he told Bernama after officiating the appointment ceremony for the chairman of the Sabah Community College Advisory Committee here yesterday.
'The ministry is also ready to offer AI-related courses at community colleges nationwide.
'Community colleges will not be bound by rigid course content and will be open to emerging fields. This will enable graduates to be more employable as their skills are aligned with current market demands,' he said.
Zambry said the government would also review the viability of community colleges that are no longer active or reassess the programmes offered at the inactive colleges.
'This is because some colleges are offering programmes that are not well-suited or have not received good response from the local community or students,' he said.
Commenting on the water supply issue at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Zambry said he hopes that the issue could be resolved by the state government as the ministry and the Federal Government have channelled RM5mil, including for the construction of underground piping.
'At the UMS level, we are not facing any problems. However, there may be other technical issues, either in terms of the pipeline or the supply volume of water needed for the university's main pipelines,' he added.
Zambry also announced an allocation of RM50,000 for each of the nine community colleges in Sabah to support the implementation of various activities.

Resume Clinic A Major Draw At MoHE Career Carnival
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Resume Clinic proved to be one of the main attractions for graduates and members of the public attending the 2025 National Career Carnival organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). The two-day career carnival, which began today, brings together over 100 leading local companies from various key sectors. Among them are investED, Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Paynet, Infineon Technologies, IJM Corporation Bhd, SD Guthrie Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Bhd. Ahmad Danial Ihsan Nordin, 26, a private sector employee in accounting, said the Resume Clinic was very helpful in helping him prepare a complete and high-quality resume. 'We don't need resumes with overly bombastic wording, just something concise and straight to the point,' he said when met by Bernama at the carnival held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today. Ahmad Danial said his participation in the Resume Clinic was a valuable and informative experience. He also expressed hope that the programme would be continued to help more individuals learn how to craft a proper resume. Similarly, Noor Fazhilah Haron, 23, a recent graduate from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Machang campus said the programme helped guide young people in understanding their potential and career direction. 'I came to the career carnival to find a job as I have just completed my studies. My main focus is in the field of muamalat (Islamic commercial transactions). 'We just need to bring our resume and the mentors will review and guide us on how to improve it,' she said.

Ramanan allocates RM100,000 to upgrade school facilities in Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, who is also Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, has allocated RM100,000 under the Mesra Rakyat Project (PMR) to upgrade facilities at two secondary schools in his constituency. The allocation involves SMK Sierramas and SMK Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara, each receiving RM50,000 for the construction of covered walkways, new classrooms, canteen repairs and other basic facilities that are in urgent need of maintenance. "We want the children of Sungai Buloh to have access to the best education. Their schools must be equipped with safe, student-friendly facilities. This is an investment in the nation's future," said Ramanan, who is also PKR vice president, when officiating the programme on Saturday (June 14). During the event, he also announced that over 10 outstanding SPM 2024 students from both schools would receive Special Education Incentives from Yayasan Bank Rakyat next week in recognition of their academic achievements. Ramanan also personally contributed RM6,000 to SPM Excellence Award recipients from SMK Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara. – Bernama
