Bachok spa acid attack: Second suspect remanded for a week
KOTA BARU, May 23 — Another suspect allegedly involved in the acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, on Saturday has been remanded starting today until May 29.
Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid approved the police's request for the remand order to further investigate the 45-year-old man under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
The man, dressed in a police lock-up uniform and wearing a face mask, arrived at the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court at 10.30 am.

Yesterday, media reports cited that a 38-year-old female suspect was placed under a five-day remand in connection with the case.
The spa owner was doused with a liquid believed to be acid in an incident near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang, in Bachok.
The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs. However, she is reportedly in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian. — Bernama

At least 15 killed in Upsi student bus crash on East–West Highway

A statement from the Hulu Perak operations control centre of the Civil Defence Force (APM) said that they received an emergency call from Gerik Hospital regarding the collision at 1.10 am. Advertisement 'Upon arrival at the scene, we found an overturned bus and a Perodua Alza MPV,' the statement read. The statement confirmed that 48 people were involved in the crash, with thirteen victims pronounced dead at the scene, while two more died in the hospital. Four others sustained injuries. It is understood that the bus was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to Tanjung Malim, Perak. Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the ministry will provide all necessary assistance to those involved in the tragedy. Johor police detain Singaporean driver after road rage dispute in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU, June 9 — Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. 'The complainant stated that while driving his BMW at 2.39pm in the Tun Aminah area, he was honked at by a Toyota Altis with a Singapore registration number, whose driver was dissatisfied because his path was blocked. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult).
