KOTA BHARU, June 1 — Two individuals believed to be involved in the acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, on May 17 have been released on police bail but may be recalled for further investigation if necessary. Bachok police chief Supt Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin, said the suspects—a 38-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man—were released on May 28. 'Investigations are still ongoing, including efforts to locate another suspect believed to be in the state. 'We are also awaiting full reports from the Chemistry Department and Forensic Laboratory on the liquid, believed to be acid, used in the attack,' he told Bernama today. The victim, a female trader, was splashed with the substance by an unknown assailant near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang. She suffered burns to her shoulder, back, arms, and legs, and is currently in stable condition at the Burn Unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian. — Bernama

BACHOK, May 26 — The remand order for a 38-year-old woman suspected of an acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, has been extended by four days, from tomorrow until May 30. The extension was granted by Magistrate Mohd Fauzan Mohd Suhairi at the Bachok Magistrates' Court today to facilitate investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code. Earlier, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that the suspect, a rubber factory employee, was arrested in front of the premises at 4 pm on May 21 and initially remanded for five days. Another suspect, a 45-year-old man, has also been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently under a seven-day remand order until May 29. On May 17, the spa owner was reportedly doused with a liquid believed to be acid by an unidentified individual near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok. The victim, who sustained severe burns to her shoulder, back, arms and legs, is reported to be in stable condition at the Burn Unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian. — Bernama

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid approved the police's request for the remand order to further investigate the 45-year-old man under Section 326 of the Penal Code. The man, dressed in a police lock-up uniform and wearing a face mask, arrived at the Kota Bharu Magistrate's Court at 10.30 am. Bachok district police chief Ismail Jamaluddin said the suspect was arrested at 4pm yesterday at a rubber factory in Kuala Krai. He said the 45-year-old man was detained to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code 'Police will apply for a remand order for the suspect at the magistrates' court today to facilitate further investigations,' he told Bernama when contacted today. Yesterday, Bernama reported that a female suspect had been arrested at the same factory on suspicion of being involved in the incident. Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the 38-year-old woman was arrested at 4pm on Wednesday. Last Saturday, a female trader was doused with a liquid believed to be acid by an unknown individual in an incident near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang, near Bachok. The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs. However, she is currently reported to be in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Kubang Kerian.
