RACE 1: LONE PINE MDN PLATE 1400m
KIKOIRA (4) has been gelded since the debut but still worth noting that he was a $650,000 Magic Millions purchase by Pierata out of an I Am Invincible Reisling placegetter who is herself out of a Kindergarten winner and a half-sister to Amelia's Dream. This is the perfect launch pad to take off to Brisbane for the carnival. Ex Anthony Cummings, now Jim and Greg Lee galloper CONVERGENT (1) has trialled seven times dating back a year. As for the two recent ones, his win was outstanding and the last of 10 wasn't that bad at all.
SATIN SPARKLE (8) was well down the order behind Aeliana on debut here in August. Resumed with a surging second at Wyong over 1200m. This suits big time. KUNDABUNG (4) is by emerging super sire Super Seth; his dam was fourth in the Karaka Million and has foaled Queensland Derby runner up, Paternal. This is another of the Waller/Morgan/Devine 'K's that will serve them all well. Brisbane for him too I suspect.
ENGINE ROOM (2) (another Super Seth) was fourth at the Farm on debut then runner-up here splitting Snitzanova and Brigidine Gal - wow. Was off the map and in the red when a more convincing winner than it looks when he won on April 2. LINKS (1) has only managed two wins in 16 starts but is well suited here (albeit) with the big weight. DEEP EMOTION (8) is flying this prep and deserves her shot in town.
TRAPALANDA (5) was runner-up in his first two runs, one The Curragh, prior to winning his third and final start in Ireland at Listowel in a 2414m Maiden. Lightly-raced and can obviously stay. Can see why he's come down to Australia; 1800m gives him a chance to win. MISTERKIPCHOGE (4) has only won once in 15 starts with six placings. Granted, a lot of those runs were in quality races and he was frequently finding the line. At least that win was here but it was a long time ago now.
Bet: Trapalanda to win
CASUAL CONNECTION (2) lines up for start 40 here; $8,000 short of $400,000 in earnings. The John Sargent-trained gelding won at Warwick Farm two starts back then was third in another 2200m at the Farm so he is as fit as he is ever going to be and his pattern suits here. Ditto that big time for CAMPALDINO (4) who won the Orange Cup on April 11, post his consecutive seconds at this venue over 1400m and 1800m. Regarding the 2400m, he was once third to Matusalem and Kureder.
BOTANICA (4) is a far distant relative of Eight Carat, but breeding buffs will spot a resemblance straight away. Vinery bought her for $140,000 and gave her to Team Hawkes who have helped her craft a tidy resume of two wins and three thirds from nine runs. That was a pretty brave effort there at Wyong considering she had 61.5kg, led, 1200m, first-up. Drawn 1 here. EVERYONE'S A STAR (5) is a major player today and tomorrow depending where she goes.
Bet: Botanica to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 4, 2nd Leg 10
PIPERITA (10) is a very typical Pierata, looks-wise. Pedigree-wise, it is world-class, literally - just one that stands out is Moon Ballad who won the Dubai World Cup. This Domeland/Sara Ryan filly won first-up and was inched out after that. Her two runs last prep were fourth to Lilac then two and a half lengths behind El Castello. Nice prospect. Waller is the undisputed master of the Zoustar progeny and he would have been happy with the comeback run of ERAANTYVA (8).
UP AND UNDER (10) was one of the best things beaten in the entire 2024/25 season when climbing all over their backs, going half pace too, in that August 3 first-up run. My point there is, if you excuse him for that one, his fresh record becomes three starts for a second and third. Just pray for a fair Kensington on the day for backmarkers. put the writing on the wall first-up. SYDNEY BOWLER (9) and his stablemate SHE'S UNUSUAL (14) are major players and they're not the only ones. This is pure 'Get Out Stakes' stuff.

Tracked speed before getting clear and closed stylish to win her May 29 Rosehill trial by over a length on a Heavy 9. COSMIC EAGLE (8) is another two-year-old filly on debut. Raced outside the leader before dashing away to win her Rosehill trial on the same day in slightly quicker time. MEDITERRA (10) also starts her career off a trial win, her one at Kembla on May 12. BOHEMIAN ART (1) was well backed on debut and raced outside the leader when a neck second behind Impressionism who kicked back to beat here on Apr 26. She bled from one nostril when fifth to Monte Veebee at Kembla second-up. Worth another chance. ZO FRILLING (9) followed three placings with a fourth to Faceoff last start. Will appreciate the extra trip. OAKFIELD EARTH (7) also debuted in that race won by Impressionism where she finished a three length sixth. Went to the tricky Quirindi track and finished a half-length fourth. Bet: Bohemian Art to win ARISTOCRAT (11) made steady ground from near last when fourth to Regulated Affair on debut then battled away on the heavy ground when sixth to Agarwood at Randwick. Winkers and tongue tie on and dropping back to provincial grade can help him break through. LORD VETTORI (3) has placed in four of his six start including second placing at his last two. Boxed on gamely behind Faceoff on a Heavy 9 at Goulburn last start. MATETE (4) has been just behind the placegetters in his four runs and won't be far away again. DIVO (2), the grandson of Makybe Diva, has won both trials this preparation. The margin wasn't great in his latest Wyong heat but it was on a Heavy 9. JUST RESPONSE (4) sat three-wide and cruised home to win on the Beaumont on May 7. Led all-the-way to beat Smashing Nova on a heavy track on the Beaumont last Monday. MAGIC FLAMES (7), the half-sister to city winner Magic Pharoah, has shown nice ability with placings in her two Randwick trials. QUEEN'S RHAPSODY (2) kicked off her second preparation with a stylish win from Missie Lee over 1100m at Hawkesbury and will appreciate stepping up to 1200m here and even further in time. Gets in well with a 3kg claim. TRUE AMOR (5) was scratched a couple of time before resuming with a length fourth to Secure at Warwick Farm on May 7. Will take benefit from the run and appreciate the drop back t provincial grade. NINGALOO REEF (1) returned with a big win at Hawkesbury. LOUNERSE (1) will appreciate a drop back in grade on her second last of 11 in the Midway at Randwick on May 24. Prior to that was a narrow winner over this track and distance. AUTUMN DREAM (2) debuted with an upset win over Hurry Miss in a Warwick Farm Super Maiden over 1300m before finishing just behind the placegetters in her next two over 1600m. CALYX ROSE (7) took improvement from her first two runs when she stepped up to 1375m to win at Cowra and followed with an all-the-way win over 1500m here on Feb 1. MISSILE SEEKER (2) missed the start by a couple of lengths before coming through the middle of the field to score by a length from Willie Oppa at Wyong on a Heavy 9. Boxed on for sixth to Piggyback at Warwick Farm last start. AIX EN PROVENCE (3) resumed with a close third to Miss Kim Kar at Canterbury first-up last campaign. Was a close second in a Midway three starts later. Trialling well. CARNEGIE HILL (10) has claims on his last start Hawkesbury win. RUSH ATTACK (1) was freshened after racing keenly and finishing down the track behind Enter The Dragon at Hawkesbury on Apr 9. Just pipped by Pocketing in a Randwick Midway and beaten a length onto seventh behind Inferencia in a Rosehill Midway. SCHOLL DEEP (8) was a three-quarter length third to Fiftyfivechevy on a Good 4 here then relished the heavy track when a smart winner over Better Explain here on May 3. Gets in well with the 3kg claim. OAKFIELD MAMSELLE (5) has a win and a second from three first-up runs. Is two from two over the mile.

‘Can't let him land first': Host lifts lid on explosive Latrell exchange

Braith Anasta has revealed more details surrounding his fiery dust-up with Latrell Mitchell outside a Sydney restaurant in 2024. The 43-year-old was asked about the exchange on Thursday's Off the Record podcast with The Australian's Andrew Webster and The Daily Telegraph's Buzz Rothfield. Mitchell had reportedly taken issue with perceived personal attacks by Anasta and approached him inside the restaurant before asking him to step outside. While the exchange never turned physical, Anasta said to he had fears it could have turned nasty. Watch Anasta lift the lid on the explosive exchange in the video player above 'I was thinking in my head, I can't let him land the first one because I'll be gone, because he's a beast,' Anasta said on the Off The Record podcast. 'I'd be lying if I said at some point, I didn't think it might happen. I can understand what he was going through and I can understand how frustrating it is when people have an opinion and you just want to play footy. 'He could have easily called me. He could have easily (talked to me) and I would have spoken to him about it.' Anasta said he thought the confrontation might turn physical. Credit: Off The Record podcast. The incident quickly found its way online with Anasta left disappointed with how Mitchell's camp leaked the story. 'That was another DW (Danny Weidler) stitch up,' he said. Buzz added: 'He (Latrell) leaked his version of it.' Anasta replied: 'Very quickly mind you.' The NRL 360 host then went into further detail on how the whole night played out but clarified he and Latrell are now on good terms. 'Okay, let me get something clear here – before I tell it, me and Latrell are fine,' he said. 'It's not about putting sh*t on him. I don't want that. But what actually happened was, I finished NRL360 and … by Wednesday night, I just want to have a beer, and have something to eat and just relax. 'So, I've gone to Chin Chin's to meet someone there. I hadn't even ordered. I had my back to the restaurant. So I couldn't see anything other than who I was having dinner with. 'Anyway, I hadn't even ordered a drink and I get this tap on my shoulder. I look over my shoulder and it's Latrell. I coached Latrell in the (under) 20s, always had a good relationship with him, and I didn't think anything of it. I'm sick of you having a crack at me on 360, yada, yada, yada'. I'm thinking, is he joking here, or is he serious? 'And he goes, let's go outside. By that point, people are looking at us, right? It's the middle of Chin Chin's. It's a busy night. I thought, I need to de-escalate this, or at the very least, I need to get this out of this restaurant, right? 'We go out the front and he just lays, he lays into me, right? He's standing over the top of me and he's having his whack. 'I'm like, mate, okay, slow down. Because there was nothing making sense. It was just abuse. I said, 'mate, what am I doing that isn't right? Is there something that I'm wrong with? Can you just explain to me what you're angry with?' 'They were coming last at the time. I don't know if it was a week or two before, but I'd shown some vision of him at fullback. 'I watch every game of every player … and there were just a few instances where I thought he could be better. 'In that instant, he was over the top of me. I didn't back down at all. I gave as good as I got.' The criticism from Anasta came as the Rabbitohs slumped to to last place on the ladder at the end of round 9, 2024. At the time Anasta and fellow NRL 360 panel members raised questions about Mitchell's place in the team and whether the club should shift him away from the fullback position. Anasta had pointed out that the then 26-year-old Mitchell struggles with defensive positioning as a fullback. 'You look at the great fullbacks in our game and they're there before the play is there. They pre-empt it, they are moving before the ball goes, they are on the bike,' Anasta said. 'He gets caught out a lot in defence, he's very rarely in the frame at the last second when there's a try or when he's got an opportunity to save a try. 'That's where he needs to improve on. That comes down to fitness too Gordie (Gordon Tallis) and comes down to being one of those high energy fullbacks. He plays differently.' Mitchell has turned his form around in 2025 with the fullback staring for the Rabbitohs as well as producing jaw-dropping feats for the NSW Blues in the State of Origin opener. Rocks or Diamonds? Classy mare tests trainer David Pfieffer's patience
Oh Diamond Lil might be a slow maturing mare but she just happens to be an extremely fast racehorse. Trainer David Pfieffer spoke about the two very different sides of Oh Diamond Lil on the eve of the Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday. 'She is probably an owner's nightmare and a dream at the same time,'' Pfieffer explained. 'Because she has been such a slow maturer, she has taken a long time to grow into herself and I still don't think she is there yet. 'Although she is nearly a five-year-old, she's still not fully matured but her owners have been patient and they are reaping the rewards now.'' Oh Diamond Lil, a daughter of Coolmore's champion racehorse and sire So You Think, has only had nine starts but she has already won four races and only once has she missed a top three finish. At the Scone stand-alone meeting three weeks ago, Oh Diamond Lil resumed with a powerful win over 1300m and Pfieffer was confident his mare would handle the class rise at Randwick. Even the likelihood of a heavy track surface doesn't overly concern the trainer. Randwick was rated a heavy 8 late on Friday. 'Ideally, I would like to see it between a soft 6-7 as she is only second-up, but I think it will be an improving heavy,'' Pfieffer said. 'She is a horse that puts a lot into her work so she naturally gets herself fit anyway. 'The way she raced last start it was like a horse that is wanting more ground and the soft-heavy track is going to make it more of a test. Pfieffer is taking two horses to the Randwick meeting with Whinchat lining up in the Singapore Pools Handicap (1300m). Whinchat resumed after a long spell at Scone last month and ran a blinder to beat all but The Instructor in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m). 'It would have been a nice feat to get a win first-up with Whinchat after such a long break,'' Pfieffer said. 'But he's pulled up well and is going great. Jay (Ford) galloped him during the week and said the horse is ready to fire. 'The barrier (10) probably works out well for him and he will appreciate the improving track, too. This was Private Eye's fourth barrier trial in recent weeks as Pride prepares the gelding for an audacious first-up Stradbroke bid at Eagle Farm on June 14. â– â– â– â– â– Baker in hot form in country Jack Baker, the 3kg claiming apprentice, is starting to make a name for himself on the NSW country circuit. Baker, 21, is in only his second season of riding but scored his 35th career win and his first at the provincials on Hot Bandit at Kembla Grange earlier this week. The young apprentice rides next at Sapphire Coast on Sunday on the Luke Pepper -trained Fifty Five Mustang. For racing historians, Jack Baker's name might be familiar – and with good reason. The apprentice shares his name with the jockey who rode the legendary Phar Lap to his very first win as a two-year-old at Rosehill in 1929. The great Phar Lap only won once in his first 10 starts but during the spring of his three-year-old season, he started to turn into a famous winning machine. Phar Lap won 36 of his final 41 starts including the 1930 Melbourne Cup. Champion jockey Jim Pike became Phar Lap's regular rider and the combination won 27 of their 30 races together. The mighty chestnut went to America to win the 1932 Agua Caliente Handicap only to die weeks later after contracting a sudden but mysterious illness. â– â– â– â– â– Waller, J-Mac shooting for history Chris Waller and James McDonald are joining forces to try and break national Group 1 records at Eagle Farm. Waller is aiming to train his 19th Group 1 win of the season, which would set a new standard after equalling his all-time record of 18 majors he first achieved in 2018-19. McDonald has ridden 14 Australian Group 1 winners during 2024-25 and has the opportunity to equal or even break 'Miracle' Mal Johnston's longstanding national riding record of 16 major race winners he established in 1979-80. O'Brien has three runners in the famous English classic with Moore deciding to stay with the in-form Delacroix over The Lion In Winter, the long-time Derby favourite until his first-up defeat last month. 'It was always going to be hard for him not to ride Delacroix,'' O'Brien said of Moore's Derby choice. 'He is classy and we always thought he would be a Derby horse. 'The Lion In Winter went to the trial and did everything wrong but he has come forward a lot since. ' Lambourn is a lovely, straight forward horse he has a lovely draw in the middle, and he's a genuine, tough stayer.'' Later that year Classique Legend won the world's richest turf race, The Everest. The Brisbane winter carnival was impacted by the Covid pandemic and the Queensland Derby and Oaks, and Kingsford Smith Cup were not run in 2020. Snitzel, trained by Peter Snowden, scored an upset win at odds of $26 in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (then called the BTC Cup). Ridden by Blake Shinn, Hot Snitzel defeated Knoydart for a career-best win. There were more upsets with the Mark Kavanagh-trained Magicool winning the Queensland Derby at odds of $14. Wouldn't It Be Nice denied top mare Avoid Lightning a second straight win in the June Stakes. The 2015 Queensland Oaks was the start of something special. Winx notched up her first of 25 career Group 1s. Hall of Fame jockey Glen Boss won two Queensland Derbys and both were for trainer John Morrisey including Lachlan River in 2005. Boss also won on Camarena in 1999. Vitesse Dane, trained by Kris Lees, won the Queensland Oaks. For Valour won the June Stakes.
