David versus Goliath: University teams to face JDT and Selangor
In Monday's draw, UM Damansara were handed the ultimate test — a showdown with defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zom (JDT), while Malaysian University FT will face former winners Selangor.
It sets up two of the most lopsided clashes in recent memory, with student squads juggling training around lectures now tasked with halting the nation's top sides.
JDT thrashed Selangor 6-1 in last season's final.
Meanwhile, Bunga Raya, who play in the A1 League, take on Sabah, while newly promoted Immigration FC and Melaka FC face Terengganu and Penang, respectively.
The two-legged ties begin on Aug 16, and while the draw clearly favours the seeded big guns, the magic of the cup often defies expectation.
The draw
Round of 16: UM Damansara v JDT, Melaka FC v Penang, Armed Forces v Kuching City, Immigration v Terengganu, Malaysian University FT v Selangor, Negri Sembilan v Police, Bunga Raya v Sabah, Kelantan Real Warriors v KL City.
