‘Duck Dynasty' star Willie Robertson reveals late father Phil Robertson's final message

New York Post3 days ago
'Duck Dynasty' star Willie Robertson revealed the final message that his late father shared with their family before his death.
In May, Phil Robertson, famous for founding the Duck Commander hunting company that became the focus of his A&E show, died at the age of 79.
The 'Duck Dynasty' family patriarch had previously battled multiple health conditions, including Alzheimer's disease.
'Phil had been struggling with Alzheimer's for a while,' Willie, 53, said. 'It was on our mind for sure, his condition. It's part of life.'
He continued, 'Phil had such a strong faith. He told us before, 'Do not cry at my funeral. I know where I'm going.''
'What a life he lived,' Willie added. 'We heard that from thousands of people, the people he impacted. Phil would have wanted us to do exactly what we're doing. Whatever is a reflection of that faith, and our show is a reflection of our faith.'
'Not overtly. We're not trying to preach to people or convert people, but I think you can see the fruit in the faith of our show and our family and how it sticks together through good times and bad. That's why we are on this earth. As we move on, I think it's a reminder to all of us the time will come. I hope I have a funeral like that where people feel that way about me as well.'
Phil, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in December, passed away during the same week that his family's new show 'Duck Dynasty: The Revival' premiered.
Though Phil did not participate in 'Duck Dynasty: The Revival' due to his health issues, the series' first episode included a tribute to him.

The video begins with footage of Willie reading an introduction for the show off his laptop to Phil, who was seen sitting in an armchair.
'So ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Only one will earn the bandana, so let the games begin. What do you think, Phil?' Willie asked.
Phil replied by giving his son a big thumbs-up.
The scene faded to black as a photo of Phil appeared alongside the in-memoriam tribute.
'Ah, that was awesome!' Willie was heard saying in response to his father's gesture in the background of the tribute.
6 Phil Robertson died on May 25, 2025.
Willie's wife Korie, who joined him for the interview, told TV Insider that the timing of Phil's death was 'a little surreal.'
'It was really special to our family that we had that one little clip,' she said. 'When filming this time around, he was already in the throes of Alzheimer's, so he wasn't able to be part of the show. We did film that one little thing where he gave Willie the thumbs up.'
'It was really special because, for our family, it felt like, 'OK, this is his opportunity to pass on the torch to us,'' she continued. 'It's funny to see the comments [from fans] who are like, 'The next generation are yuppies. They aren't passing things on.'

'But we are passing on Phil's legacy because his legacy was first about faith,' she said. 'His whole motto was faith, family, ducks, in that order. His first was faith. All our kids are living that out in really beautiful ways and family.'
'That's what this show is about,' Korie added. 'It's about family, inner-generational family living life together and what that might look like. And then ducks. We're still running Duck Commander, the business he started from the duck call he invented years and years ago. That has been really special to carry that legacy on now after his passing.'
Phil founded Duck Commander in 1972. The 'Duck Dynasty' television show premiered 40 years later, in 2012, before it ended in 2017.

During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Willie and Korie explained how they were coping after losing Phil and how they were touched by the outpouring of support that they received from fans.
'I think it's a combination of some sadness, just we miss him, but also joy and happiness from what he believed and where he was going and all the things he was able to accomplish in his life,' Willie said. 'And so many people that he helped and we were reminded of that at his passing. And just so many people just flooded us with messages of how he had helped change their life, either directly or indirectly through the show or through the podcast or books he has written.'

While Willie shared that it was 'tragic' watching his father suffer during his battle with Alzheimer's, he said it helped prepare the family for his passing.
'You're ready,' he said. 'We knew, he's ready to move on and so yeah, it's kind of mixed. But there was really more joy.'
'Phil pre-warned us,' he added.
'We told a lot of funny stories and just brought back all those fun memories,' Korie chimed in. 'It's a little bit the Robertson way. Even in the hard things, we laugh a lot through it.'
6 Phil's wife, Kay, previously spoke out about how the couple struggled during the early years of their marriage.

Korie said they hoped future generations would be inspired by Phil's dedication to his faith and how it transformed his life.
'Just in passing down that legacy — one of the things that we've just been reminded of over and over again is just this man who lived down on the river, didn't own a cell phone or a computer — what God did with his life. Because he was just truly passionately sold out for Jesus,' she said.
Korie continued, 'And so I think for all of us, it's brought even more of a boldness to our faith to say like, 'Hey, we follow Jesus, and that's who we are.' And if you want to know more about it, come talk to us because it's brought a full life.'
'And a changed life,' Willie added. 'There would never have been a 'Duck Dynasty' show. There wouldn't have been company had his life not changed. This family would not have stayed together.'
Phil's wife Kay, 77, has previously spoken out about how the couple faced marital struggles in the early years of their union due to Phil's alcoholism and infidelity before he committed to his faith.
The pair, who married in 1966, had four sons including Willie, Alan, 59, Jase, 55 and Jep, 47, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
'It's all responsible to his faith and his life change, of he and mom together to keep this family together,' he said. 'And now we're seeing so much fruit of that.'

The pair were together from 1994 to 1997, with Gwyneth recalling in 2023 of Brad's proposal: 'One night we were on the balcony of this house we were renting in this little town in Argentina…I wish I remembered exactly what he said, but he proposed, it was fantastic, I was thrilled. We had talked about it, but I was surprised in the moment, I remember that. I must have been 24.' Shortly after Gwyneth and Brad called off their engagement, he famously began dating Jennifer Aniston. Jacob Elordi Is Completely Unrecognizable in Frankenstein

Originally appeared on E! Online is bringing one of pop culture's most famous monsters to life—literally. In the first look at Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Frankenstein movie, the Euphoria star transformed into the titular scientist's reanimated creation. With his disfigured face wrapped up in tatter rags, Elordi was barely recognizable as a creature fused together by Dr. Viktor Frankenstein (played by Oscar Isaac). And according del Toro , the 28-year-old was the "perfect actor" to take up the role after dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. "We have a supernaturally good connection," the filmmaker told Vanity Fair in an interview published July 28. "It's like, very few words. Very few things I have to say, and he does it." Likewise, makeup artist Mike Hill couldn't be more thrilled with Elordi taking up the mantle. 'What attracted me to him was his gangliness and his wrists. It was this looseness,' Hill told the magazine. "I was like, 'I don't know who else you could get with a physicality like this.'" He continued of Elordi, "His demeanor is innocent, but it's encompassed in a six-foot-five frame. He could really do a lot of damage if this man really wanted to be a bad guy." But Elordi understands that he's proverbially standing on the shoulders of giants in this role. After all, past actors who've portrayed Frankenstein's monster includes Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Robert De Niro and Benedict Cumberbatch. "At first I thought, 'I'll stay away from this. I want to do my own thing,'" he said of visiting past portrayals of the monster. "And then I asked Guillermo, 'Should I watch the other Frankensteins?' And he goes, 'What the f--k do you mean?'" Reasoning that he didn't want to be "influenced" by other actors, Elordi recalled how de Toro assured him that his performance would not be affect. "He says, 'My friend, it's a movie, it can't f--king hurt you,'" Elordi added. "I went home, and I just binged them." Pokemon Legends: Z-A Gives Us First Look at Mega Dragonite, Wild Mega Evolutions

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is bringing back mega evolutions, the battle gimmick that first appeared in the X and Y games, but is also bringing us new twists, including brand-new mega evolutions. A recent Pokemon Presents video walked us through a few different features of the game, including the new and returning mechanics from the series' last romp through Lumiose City. Mega evolution, which allows you to temporarily evolve certain Pokemon if they're equipped with a corresponding stone, is coming back in Legends: Z-A, alongside trainer customization. But we're also getting a few updates to the battle mechanic from Gen 6. Here's what we've learned about the game so far. Pokemon Legends: Z-A release date Legends: Z-A will be available Thursday, Oct. 16 on Switch and Switch 2. Z-A adds new mega evolutions and rogue mega evolutions Mega evolutions were a focal point of the X and Y story, and a big part of the competitive scene until Gen 7 came out. X and Y introduced 28 mega evolutions, with another 20 coming in the Gen 3 remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Mega evolution allows you to give even fully evolved Pokemon a temporary stat boost, a new ability and sometimes even a type change. Legends: Z-A is adding to the list of megas, prominently featuring the new Mega Dragonite in the trailer. No details yet on whether Mega Dragonite has a change in type or what its new ability is, but I would guess it has something to do with the eight different wings all over its body. The Pokemon Company/Screenshot by CNET The other big change with mega evolution is the addition of rogue mega evolutions -- wild Pokemon that are able to mega evolve on their own. It's an interesting change from the Gen 6 games, where mega evolutions were only encountered in battles against gym leaders and similarly powerful trainers. Legends: Z-A brings back Lumiose City's fashion scene, detective work In Pokemon X and Y, trainers could shop at various cities to customize their attire, from hats and hoodies to socks, shoes and skirts. You could also change your hairstyle by visiting salons. That kind of customization is back in Legends: Z-A, as the trailer showed its trainer in a variety of styles ranging from sporty to chic. Sign me up for new styles in different Lumiose districts. The Pokemon Company/Screenshot by CNET Part of X and Y's postgame content was the Looker Detective Agency, where players could help a Lumiose City detective investigate some mysteries. Players will get to work with Emma, "the best detective in Lumiose," and seemingly the grown-up version of a child who featured prominently in the Looker Bureau missions in X and Y. Detective Emma on the case. The Pokemon Company/Screenshot by CNET Detective work in Legends Z-A appears to be a system for accepting quests from people around the city who need help with their problems, like trash Pokemon hanging out on restaurant tables outside. Other Pokemon staples return, like a Pokemon researcher, Mable, who needs you to catch Pokemon to help with her research, and a shady criminal organization -- in this case, Corbeau and his Rust Syndicate. Overall, Legends Z-A seems to be leaning into the city life of Lumiose, which could be a fun flavor for the game. But more than anything else, I hope we'll see more new mega evolutions and other expansions to returning mechanics. Bonus: New Pokemon Champions info Today's Pokemon Presents also gave us some new details on Pokemon Champions, the upcoming battle-focused game that will be available on both Switch and mobile devices. The game seems to be pretty exclusively a battle simulator, and we've now learned that it allows you to pull in your teams from Pokemon Home or recruit new Pokemon either temporarily for free or permanently by using in-game currency. Try out Pokemon for a week for free, or recruit them permanently for a cost. The Pokemon Company/Screenshot by CNET You can also train your Pokemon within Champions, allowing you to adjust competitive-focused stats like individual values and effort values, which affect stat numbers, and natures, which boost one stat and lower another. The Pokemon games have made a lot of changes to make training easier and less time-consuming, and this appears to be another step in that direction, though I have several questions about the in-game currency and how players can earn it. The trailer showed moving stat points from one stat to another, at a cost. The Pokemon Company/Screenshot by CNET Pokemon Champions will be available sometime next year, with no precise release date set. I wonder if this will be an attempt to split the competitive scene from the mainline games, making it easier for people to collect and train Pokemon for competition and removing the pressure of robust competitive systems from the mainline games. We'll find out whenever we get info about Gen 10.
