Love Island star reveals he is to be a dad for first time in sweet announcement

A star of Love Island series three is set to become a dad for the first time and has admits he 'was never a massive fan of the idea of kids' before he met his partner
A former Love Island star has confirmed he is to become a dad for the first time. Eight years after finding fame on the hit ITV dating show, Jonny Mitchell is ready to enter a new phase in his life.

The series three islander took to Instagram to share the exciting news with his followers in a sweet upload. He revealed he and partner SImone Engelhardt were to become parents, admitting it was getting tough to keep their news a secret.

He captioned his upload: "Well.. she's getting too big to keep this a secret much longer. As Bella Ramsey would say - I'm gonna be a dad."

The reality TV star added: "I don't post much personal stuff on here, but I'll make an exception for this. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I was never a massive fan of the idea of kids.
"But I think it's something that you don't really feel until you have a woman in your life who you know will be an amazing mother. Which I know @engelhardtlund will be. So it's safe to say I've warmed up to the idea."

He concluded: "Life has been an endless rollercoaster of unexpected twists and turns over the past decade, it's hard to imagine where we were even 5 years ago to where we are now.
"And it looks like the next chapter is here right on time! Baby Mitchell coming end of the year, let's hope i can figure this whole Dad thing out."
In the images, Jonny is seen beaming as he kneels down and caresses his partner's stomach as she cradles her bump. The reel of images also showed the duo enjoying trips on holiday together and enjoying date nights.

Among those sending congratulatory messages were fellow Love Island alum. Adam Collard simply wrote: "Congrats mate," alongside a clapping hands emoji.
Marcel Somerville also shared his delight and surprise, writing: "Ohhhh My Days!!!!! It's happening. Congratulations my bro!!!! So happy for you guys."

Rykard Jenkins said: "Congratulations and blessings to you both," while Geordie Shore star James Tindale also penned: 'Get in mate buzzing for you both! Congratulations."
Jonny and Simone reside in Bali after making the move in 2020. And the reality star previously said that helping dogs on the island was a "sense of duty". He said: "One of the biggest most unexpected changes I've seen in myself is my new overwhelming sense of duty towards helping dogs on this tiny little island.
"And how I feel like somehow one of my higher purposes in life is to make a difference by helping more dogs that need it. I've fallen in love with Bali since I've been living out here but it doesn't excuse some of the approaches they have in relation to animal rights and how they're treated."

All the signs Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty had split as they announce shock separation after 12 years of marriage

After 12 years of marriage, Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty announced they were separating on Tuesday. But while the shock announcement was a surprise to fans, there were subtle signs that the former couple were on the rocks. Confirming their split in a joint statement, they said: 'We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved. 'We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.' Cat and Patrick first met in 2002 while they hosted BBC talent show Fame Academy, however sparks didn't fly between the couple until 10 years later. After being friends for years, their friendship turned to romance thanks to his major gesture when he flew all the way from Belfast to Los Angeles for brunch with Cat. One of the signs that their relationship wasn't rock solid, was that Cat notably did not attend Patrick's mother Mary's funeral back in March. It was reported that she stayed home in order to support their two young children, Milo, nine, and James, seven, who were suffering the loss of their grandmother. Patrick, 54, looked bereft as he carried Mary's coffin through his home village, where he was joined by close family and friends at the Church of the Sacred Heart. A spokesperson for Cat told Daily Mail at the time: 'Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.' Patrick's mother, who was in her 80s, passed away at her home in the village of Dundrum on Saturday. A death notice said Mary 'will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her entire family circle, neighbours and friends.' And the couple's social media was another telling sign of their impending split. While he may be less active than Cat, Patrick's last post about her was back in February 2024 when she landed the This Morning job. He wrote at the time: 'I didn't know what a morning person actually was until I met this woman. She gets up every day with a smile on her face. A 5.30am, whistling in the shower, smile on her face. Then downs two coffees, and gives you the look. The "what the f*€K's wrong with you, let's do this" look. 'It's not a pretend smile. And it's not just some mornings. It's every morning. Which is bloody difficult cos she's married to me. I should also mention she likes a chat. To anyone. About anything. Anywhere. 'If there's anyone in the world made for a show called @thismorning, it's this human. Strap yourself in @benshephardofficial And welcome to my world. We couldn't be prouder of you @catdeeley Go get 'em Mama ! ❤️.' Meanwhile Patrick hasn't featured on Cat's Instagram since the same day as his gushing This Morning tribute when she reposted it, despite the fact that she shares social media posts on a more than weekly basis. Another sign of trouble between the pair was a lack of public appearances in the last year. Pictures showed the pair enjoying a summer holiday to St Tropez last August, where they looked in high spirits. But their last red carpet appearance together was as far back as September 18, 2023, when they attended the Ballywalter London premiere at The May Fair Hotel. And a month before they looked loved-up at the launch of fragrance brand e11even founded by Cat and Amanda Grossman. This came just two months after they attended the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) Awards together in May 2023. Back in 2024 Patrick opened up about the tricky times the couple had faced balancing their careers as both juggle parenting and hosting TV shows. Prior to her job at This Morning, Cat was the host of So You Think You Can Dance over in the US. Speaking about a period during Christmas 2023, Patrick told The Times: 'There was a moment after Christmas that was tricky. 'She had to fly to Atlanta for seven weeks. There was a wee bit of a juggle there. But I think with all these things, as long as you have a routine, it doesn't take as much fizz out of you as some people think.' Discussing how things have changed since her move to This Morning he added: 'Because Cat's doing her stuff in the morning, she would normally be back just after lunchtime. And we've got the start of the week and the weekends together, so it's not "Hi/bye".' The former couple are estimated to be worth approximately £11million with Cat believed to be on around £600,000 per year to host This Morning. Patrick, on the other hand, was given a three-year, £216,000 contract to host 30 episodes of the Late Late Show, after he took over from Ryan Tubridy. Meanwhile last year Cat stunned ITV viewers when she made a shock bedroom confession on This Morning. She and her co-host Ben Shephard were discussing whether separate rooms are the key to a happy marriage alongside Linda Lusardi and married couple Emma and Kevin - who choose to sleep in separate bedrooms. Speaking about her own bedroom arrangements, Cat revealed her sleeping situation with Patrick. She explained: 'It's one of those things that because of our schedule here [This Morning], from Monday to Thursday I sleep in the guest bedroom and the rest of the time I'm back. 'Because otherwise I get up at 5am and I want to fall asleep earlier.' Previously talking about how they got together Patrick told the Daily Mail: 'Well there had always been a spark between us, but either she was with someone or I was, and then she moved to LA, so opportunities for something to develop were limited. 'Unless someone was stupid enough to get on a plane, nothing would have happened. 'Cat was in LA and I was in Northern Ireland, so I texted her to wish her a happy birthday. 'When she said she was having a birthday lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel, I said I'd be there. She told me to go to sleep as I was drunk. 'That was 2am. I got up at 5am, went to Belfast airport for 6am, got the 7.15am flight to Heathrow, landed at 8.30am, took off again at 9.40am and arrived in LA at 1.15pm. 'I was at the Beverly Hills Hotel by 2.15pm. When I walked in, Cat looked at me and said: "Oh, you're good!"' They married in a secret, intimate ceremony in Rome in 2012 with their close family and friends present. A wedding photo showed the pair looking blissfully happy as they enjoy a celebratory drink at their wedding reception. The couple lived in California for over 14 years as she presented So You Think You Can Dance but they put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $4.9 million (£3.8 million). They moved back to North London in 2020, prior to Cat securing her job at This Morning amid fears of gun violence following an incident in which Patrick had to hide from a gunman in a Los Angeles mall.

YouTube most popular first TV destination for children, Ofcom finds

Children are now heading to YouTube from the moment they turn on the television, in the latest sign of the video platform's migration from the laptop to the living room. YouTube is the most popular first TV destination for generation Alpha, according to a comprehensive survey of the UK's viewing habits by Ofcom, the communications regulator. One in five young TV viewers aged from four to 15 turned straight to the platform last year. The survey showed Netflix close behind. While BBC One was in the top five first destinations, children were just as likely to choose BBC iPlayer. YouTube's increasing presence on televisions is not just down to the very young. In a gradual cultural shift, viewers aged 55 and over watched almost twice as much YouTube content last year as they did in 2023, up from six minutes a day to 11 minutes a day. An increasing proportion of that – 42% – is viewed through a TV set. Overall, viewers spent an average of 39 minutes a day on YouTube in 2024. The platform is now the second most-watched service in the UK, behind the BBC but ahead of ITV. Those aged 16 to 24 watched just 17 minutes of traditional, live television a day last year. Only 45% of them tuned into any broadcast TV in an average week, down from 48% in 2023. YouTube has evolved to become a closer competitor for traditional broadcasters. Half of the platform's top-trending videos now resemble the content of mainstream broadcasters, including long-form interviews and gameshows. The rise of YouTube is presenting a major challenge for public service broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, who have to decide how much of their content to place on the platform. While doing so helps them reach new and younger audiences, YouTube also takes a huge chunk of advertising revenue. There is also a risk that putting shows on YouTube ensures viewers spend less time on a broadcaster's own platforms. 'Public service broadcasters are recognising this shift, moving to meet audiences in the online spaces where they increasingly spend their time,' said Ed Leighton, Ofcom's interim group director for strategy and research. 'But we need to see even more ambition in this respect to ensure that public service media that audiences value survives long into the future.' Ofcom has already told 'endangered' broadcasters they should work with YouTube to place more of their content on the platform, but it has also said this must be done 'on fair commercial terms'. Michael Grade, Ofcom's chair and a former head of Channel 4, said ministers should look at new laws forcing YouTube to give content from Britain's public service broadcasters more prominence. Sign up to Headlines UK Get the day's headlines and highlights emailed direct to you every morning after newsletter promotion Channel 4 has gone the furthest in placing its content on YouTube. Executives insist it is only helping them reach new viewers, rather than cannibalising its own platforms. ITV also announced a new deal with YouTube at the end of last year. While there is a live debate within the BBC over how much content to place on YouTube, more of its coverage is set to be featured on the site. Deborah Turness, the head of BBC News, told staff this week that the head of the corporation's new AI department would also be responsible for 'driving growth off platform with a focus on our YouTube strategy and younger audiences'. The amount of time people are watching video content every week is holding steady. Overall, the average person watched four hours, 30 minutes a day at home last year, just a minute less than the previous year. Content from traditional broadcasters still accounts for most viewing, making up 56% of the total. However, the proportion has fallen significantly, from 71% in 2018. YouTube is also the most popular online audio service, used by 47% of UK adults each week, followed by Spotify, used by 36%. Podcasts are now increasingly streamed on YouTube – a sign of its impact right across the media.
