Texas point guard Rori Harmon to return next season in bid to get Longhorns back to the Final Four

NBC Sports09-04-2025
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas point guard Rori Harmon announced Wednesday she will return for a fifth season in bid to get the Longhorns back to the Final Four.
Harmon has a medical redshirt season to use after a knee injury knocked her out of the 2023-24 season after just 12 games. Texas advanced to the Elite Eight that season. Texas made the Final Four this season for the first time since 2003.
Harmon announced her decision in a post on the team's social media accounts.
'Let's finish what we started. Hook'em,' said Harmon, who averaged 9.3 points and 5.9 assists last season. She also was considered the team's top defender.
Texas lost to Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina in a national semifinal.
Harmon's return means the Longhorns will have three full-time starters back for next season, and will again pair her with All-American Madison Booker in the Texas backcourt.
The Longhorns rose to their first No. 1 ranking 2004 this past season and made it to the Final Four for the first time since 2003. Texas won a share of the SEC title in its first season in the league.
Harmon is a graduate student and is pursing a master's degree.

Steelers rookie Derrick Harmon destroys Buccaneers' Ben Scott for first sack in preseason

Roll out the red carpet — Derrick Harmon has officially arrived on the Steelers stat sheet, earning his first team sack against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in preseason. With just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, Harmon completely bullied Buccaneers rookie LG Ben Scott — driving him into the backfield with ease, sacking QB Kyle Trask in the process. Selected by the Steelers with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, it didn't take Harmon long to earn the starting defensive end spot — and he's clearly ready for the big lights, as evidenced by his impressive sack on Saturday. Steelers fans are still holding onto hope that veteran DT Cam Heyward, who's mentored Harmon early in his development process, will return to action sooner rather than later — as he's currently sitting out of team activities in pursuit of a new deal. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin names 2 rookies who impressed him the most vs. Buccaneers

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers falling short to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their second preseason matchup of 2025, HC Mike Tomlin was impressed with the Steel City rookies — specifically the team's top two selections from last April's draft. Following the Steelers' 14-17 preseason loss, Tomlin revealed to reporters which rookies impressed him the most: first-round DE Derrick Harmon and third-round RB Kaleb Johnson. 'Harmon and Kaleb Johnson really took a step forward off of their first performance,' Tomlin said Saturday's postgame press conference. 'But again, that's a reasonable thing to expect. Second time stepping into a stadium, you see more of their talents.' Tomlin hit the nail on the head — as Harmon bullied Buccaneers G Ben Scott on his way to earning his first sack as a Steeler, while Johnson exploded for 59 yards from scrimmage on just 12 touches. In less than 25 days, Johnson and Harmon will get the opportunity to translate their preseason success into regular-season dominance, when the Steelers kick off their 2025 campaign against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on September 7 at 1:00 PM EST.
