BRS urges State poll body to delete symbols similar to car
Ahead of the forthcoming elections to the rural and urban local bodies in the State, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has requested the State Election Commissioner to delete certain identical symbols which look like the BRS election symbol of car from the list of free symbols to avoid confusion among the electorate.
In a letter addressed and submitted to the State Election Commissioner, BRS leaders B. Vinod Kumar and S. Bharath Kumar said on Tuesday that the symbols identical to the BRS election symbol of car was being misused to cut into the votes of BRS. They explained that opponents of BRS were taking advantage of such identical symbols to confuse voters in choosing and recognising the BRS' car symbol on the ballot papers.
Candidates who have contested on the identical symbols such as 'chapati rollers, camera, ship and a few others got/secured votes more than some of the recognised national parties too. A look at such symbols with the size in which they are displayed on ballot papers/EVM machines clearly show the similarities of the free symbols with the BRS symbol of car.
It could be clearly understood as to how candidates getting those symbols had been cutting into BRS votes in the past, affecting the prospects of BRS candidates. They also explained with details how the candidates who were allotted symbols identical to that of BRS have secured considerable number of votes, which otherwise would have been polled to BRS.
They also requested the SEC to give an opportunity to the party (BRS) to appear in person to present the case properly to ensure a free and fair elections to the local bodies.

Former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of compromising the interests of Telangana and misleading its people with regard to river water issues. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said the words and actions of Mr. Revanth Reddy are contradictory. He noted that the CM had hinted that he would boycott the meeting in New Delhi if Andhra Pradesh's Banakacherla project was discussed. 'Why did he rush to Delhi at midnight. What prompted this sudden trip? What secret understanding was reached in the dead of night?, he questioned. He pointed out that the CM had falsely claimed that Banakacherla was not on the agenda. In reality, it was the first item on the agenda. While Andhra Pradesh Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu confirmed discussions on Banakacherla and the formation of a committee, Mr. Revanth Reddy denied any such discussion. 'Is this the level of honesty expected from a Chief Minister?,' he wondered. Mr. Rao pointed out that Central Water Commission, GRMB, and the Polavaram Project Authority had all rejected the pre-feasibility report for Banakacherla. 'These statutory bodies, created through Parliament, denied approvals. How then did the Centre convene this meeting? Why did Revanth agree to a committee? His actions are nothing short of signing a death warrant for Telangana,' Mr. Rao said. On telemetry, he clarified that installations up to Pothireddypadu were already set up during the BRS tenure and BRS had proposed similar arrangements at all projects. He criticised the move to shift the KRMB office from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, calling it a betrayal.

Rahul & Kharge write to PM Modi, urge him to fulfil promise of restoring statehood to J&K
'For the past five years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have consistently called for the restoration of statehood. This demand is both legitimate and firmly grounded in their constitutional and democratic rights. It is important to recognise that while there have been instances of Union Territories being granted statehood in the past, the case of Jammu and Kashmir is without precedent in independent India,' states the joint letter penned by Rahul and Kharge. Their push comes at a time when political tensions are rising in Srinagar, with Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah clashing with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha over matters of jurisdiction—a marked shift from the relative diffidence that had characterised much of his eight-month tenure so far. With six MLAs in the 90-member legislative assembly, Congress is a member of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling alliance led by National Conference. However, of late, the ties between the two parties have been frosty with Abdullah disapproving of the Congress's allegations on EVM tampering, and the rudderless state of the INDIA bloc. Even on Monday, when various opposition parties criticised the L-G's administration for using security forces in an attempt to physically prevent Abdullah from visiting the Naqshband Sahib graveyard in Srinagar to pay tribute to those killed by the Dogra army in 1931, the Congress national leadership remained silent. The party's Jammu and Kashmir unit president, Tariq Hameed Karra, had however condemned the incident. In their letter, Rahul and Kharge did not refer to Monday's events, but reminded the PM of his promise to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, which was made a Union Territory in August 2019 along with the abrogation of Article 370, under which it enjoyed special status. Since then, the Congress has tip-toed around the demand for the restoration of Article 370—from criticising the manner in which it was abrogated at times to arguing that the Supreme Court upholding the Centre's move has effectively put a lid on the matter. The party has been consistently demanding statehood be returned to Jammu and Kashmir, which Rahul and Kharge reiterated in their letter. The two leaders mentioned that the Union government made assurances before the Supreme Court in a matter regarding Article 370, submitting that statehood would be restored 'at the earliest and as soon as possible'. A request was also put forth to include the Union Territory of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution, which provides autonomy and self-governance to the Scheduled Tribes in the hilly regions of the Northeast. 'This would be a significant step towards addressing the cultural, developmental, and political aspirations of the people of Ladakh, while safeguarding their rights, land, and identity,' they said in the letter. BRS failed to bring even single drop of water to Nalgonda: Addanki Dayakar
Hyderabad: The Congress party on Tuesday countered former Minister Jagadish Reddy's statements, alleging that his statements are a pack of lies, as the previous BRS government has failed to provide even a single drop of water to erstwhile Nalgonda district. MLC Addanki Dayakar held that not a single project was constructed which would serve irrigation purposes. In a media statement, he said that Jagadishwar Reddy's comments were devoid of facts. The MLC accused the BRS MLA of lying shamelessly without building a single project and not providing a drop of water to the erstwhile Nalgonda district. He accused the previous government of pushing the State into bankruptcy and its failure to complete the SLBC project tunnel. He questioned whether the BRS built projects during its term, which would match the endurance of projects like Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam. The MLC said that people were happy under the Congress government after unseating the BRS regime, as it had betrayed the Telangana and Nalgonda people during its ten years rule. He advised Jagadish Reddy to look at the comprehensive plan of CM Revanth Reddy in Nalgonda's development, before jumping to conclusions.
