This week's episode of ABC's The Rookie — an homage of sorts to the movie Speed — was ostensibly about the hijacking of a city bus by bomb-toting baddies seeking a kajillion-dollar ransom.
But that was not what the hijacking was about. Not at all.
About two-thirds of the way through the episode, the LAPD struck a deal with one of the hijackers, after his cohort/brother got shot and needed urgent care. The would-be bomber agreed to drop his brother off at a hospital, as well as release half of the bus' 20-ish passengers.
Among those who disembarked was Cassie (played by Last Man Standing's Molly Cook), a pregnant woman who appeared to endure some physical distress during the intense hijacking. But just as the Mid-Wilshire Division team realized that 'Cassie' is the person who leased the house where a near-deadly booby trap had been set for Angela and Nyla earlier in the hour, the 'pregnant' woman went missing.
Viewers saw 'Cassie' (real name: Denise) scurry off, duck into a parked car, and take out the government ID card that belonged to a fellow passenger (played by The Flash's Eric Nenninger). After using a gizmo to scan the ID card and upload info to a phone, Denise dialed the person for whom she was working:
Monica frickin' Stevens, The Rookie's recurring bad apple (played winningly by Bridget Regan) who has been 'in the wind,' as they say on cop shows, since last season's finale.
After gloating about the LAPD's wonderful predictability, Monica reminded Denise that she is being well paid to not ask questions about the true value of the swiped ID card, and that she is to keep her lips zipped, lest any harm come to her actual child.
And say nothing, Denise did, after being scooped up and questioned by the LAPD.
In the weeks ahead, The Rookie cast member Richard T. Jones told TVLine, Lt. Grey and his team may hear rumblings that the elusive Monica could have been involved in the bus hijacking, 'but we don't know completely. We're still trying to figure it out.'
So, is the ABC procedural speeding its way towards another season finale in which Monica will make much mayhem?
'Yes, it is. Yes, it is,' Jones affirmed, adding that the finale, which is seven episodes away, will again require assists from The Rookie: Feds characters such as FBI agent Matthew Garza (played by Felix Solis).
'Some Monica mayhem is coming,' Jones warned. 'She's always stirring the pot.'Best of TVLine

Tristan Rogers, who played super spy Robert Scorpio on ‘General Hospital,' dies at 79
Tristan Rogers, who played legacy character Robert Scorpio on ABC's 'General Hospital,' died Friday, less than one month after he made a special appearance on the soap opera. He was 79. 'The entire 'General Hospital' family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers' passing,' said Frank Valentini, the show's executive producer, in a statement. 'Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio).' Born in Melbourne, Australia, Rogers' first foray into performing was in his early twenties and playing drums in a rock band with a group of friends. They weren't successful so Rogers turned to commercial work and modeling to earn some money. When the band dissolved, Rogers decided to give acting a try. After various roles in Australia, he also worked as a DJ and eventually moved to Los Angeles to try to break into Hollywood. He said casting directors were initially turned off by his accent but he eventually landed a two-day role on 'General Hospital' in 1980. 'I had no idea at the point how big the show was,' Rogers told fellow 'General Hospital' actor Maurice Benard on the YouTube show, 'State of Mind with Maurice Benard' in 2022. 'I had no name. I was brought in expressly to beat up the hero, Luke, (played by Anthony Geary), and then disappear,' Rogers said. His first day was half-over when then-executive producer Gloria Monty asked if he would like to stay on. They had no character written for him so for three weeks Monty asked him to just appear in scenes 'looking furtive, looking suspicious' until they came up with a storyline. It was decided he would play a spy known as 'CK8' and eventually he was given the name Robert Scorpio. The character would remain a fixture in Port Charles for the rest of Rogers' life, even when he wasn't a current cast member. Scorpio's on again/off again romance with Emma Samms' character, Holly Sutton, remained a favorite among fans. Scorpio also had a romance, and many storylines with another spy, Anna Devane, played by Finola Hughes. Scorpio and Devane shared a daughter, Robin, played by Kimberly McCullough. Samms returned to the show for a stint last fall where it was revealed that Scorpio was the father of her adult daughter, Sasha Gilmore (played by Sofia Mattson.) Rogers and Samms left the show together in November 2024 in scenes taped with a nod to 'Casablanca.' He returned to the show in July for one episode when Sasha arrived to his home in France with her new baby. It was then revealed that Rogers had lung cancer Rogers' other acting credits include 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' 'The Young & the Restless' and 'Studio City,' which won him outstanding supporting actor in a digital drama series at the Daytime Emmy Awards. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Parkerson, and a daughter and a son.

Tristan Rogers, a longtime star of ABC's daytime soap General Hospital, has died. He was 79. Rogers died early Friday after a battle with lung cancer, though he had never been a smoker. He played Robert Scorpio on General Hospital over several stints for some 45 years and also had a run on CBS' The Young and the Restless. A native of Melbourne, Australia, the blue-eyed Rogers appeared on several TV series in his home country early in his career. He joined General Hospital in 1980 as Scorpio, a colorful character who quickly became a fan favorite. In one of the character's most notable early storylines, Scorpio teamed with Luke and Laura (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) to rescue the world from the Ice Princess weather machine in 1981. He was initially set to work for only two days on General Hospital, 'to beat up the hero — Luke — and then disappear,' he recalled in a 2022 interview. 'I then was called into [executive producer] Gloria Monty's office and told, 'We really like what you're doing, would you like to stay?'' Rogers remained on General Hospital through 1992, when Scorpio was killed — though his dead body was never seen onscreen — in an explosion in South America. He returned briefly three years later as Scorpio's spirit, who comforted his daughter Robin (Kimberly McCullough), though in subsequent returns the character was alive. Rogers reprised the role for several brief stints in the 2000s and 2010s, along with a role on the spinoff General Hospital: Night Shift, before rejoining the show in a recurring rule from 2019-24. His final appearances on General Hospital came in an unannounced guest appearance in July. Rogers also played the character of Colin Atkinson on The Young and the Restless from 2010-19, appearing in about 180 episodes of that CBS soap. His credits also included voice work on Batman Beyond and The Wild Thornberrys, along with roles on the web series The Bay and Studio City. He won a Daytime Emmy for his role on the latter and was nominated for his work on The Bay. Rogers is survived by his wife and two children. Mike Barnes contributed to this report.
