Preparations for National Day, Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations on track
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said his ministry has already convened two meetings each for the main organising committees of both National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
"Everything is on track. Planning and participation have been very positive. We're still receiving applications from various groups keen to take part in the parade.
"To enrich the experience, we're also organising numerous side events so that those attending won't only watch the parade, a showcase of assets, or performances, but can also enjoy various activities around Putrajaya.
"Families, children, and parents alike can look forward to a truly festive and enjoyable atmosphere," he told reporters at the Pentarama Homecoming programme in conjunction with HKHM 2025 at SK Bangsar today.
Fahmi said that a range of events is also being planned for the National Day Eve celebrations in Putrajaya and across Kuala Lumpur.
"I don't want to reveal too much just yet, but rest assured, this year's celebrations will be grand, harmonious, and filled with joy," he said, encouraging the public to visit the merdeka360.my portal for updates.
This year's National Day parade will take place in Putrajaya on Aug 31, while Malaysia Day will be celebrated on Sept 16 at PICCA@Arena Butterworth in Penang.
On another development, Fahmi invited the public to attend Malam Malaysia Bersama Gaza, a solidarity event for Palestine organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM).
The three-day event will be held at Dataran Merdeka from Aug 22 to 24, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to attend the highlight night on Aug 23.
"This event serves as a reminder of Malaysia's unwavering and continued support for Palestine, especially the people of Gaza," Fahmi said.
MAPIM is expecting over 100,000 attendees, with exhibitions including a time tunnel showcasing the history of the Palestinian struggle for independence.
"I urge everyone to come out and show their support," he added.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Pentarama Homecoming programme, launched today, will be rolled out to over 80 schools nationwide to inspire patriotism among students.
At today's event, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including a casual talk session with the minister, cultural performances, fashion shows, games, and a Jalur Gemilang flag-waving segment.

Jalur Gemilang must be displayed correctly, says Loke
KUALA LUMPUR: The Jalur Gemilang, as a symbol of the nation's sovereignty, must be displayed correctly and with respect, in accordance with the law, says Anthony Loke. In a Facebook post, the DAP secretary-general said any misuse or error involving the national flag or symbols, including the Jalur Gemilang and the Malaysian Coat of Arms, are subject to the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963. "When incidents involving flag errors occur, the police must be allowed to take appropriate action based on the principle of the Rule of Law," Loke said. Loke, who is also Transport Minister, acknowledged that while Malaysians eagerly anticipate August each year, improper display of the Jalur Gemilang had sparked heated debates on social media and could shift the focus away from National Day celebrations. "With National Day approaching, let us focus on strengthening unity, respecting our diversity, and contributing to the development and progress of the Malaysia we all cherish," he added. Meanwhile, PKR vice president Chang Lih Kang called for strict action against those found guilty of displaying the Jalur Gemilang upside down. Chang, who is also the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said the flag, as the nation's symbol, should always be displayed correctly. "There is no reason to display the Jalur Gemilang incorrectly. It represents the spirit, struggle, and unity of all Malaysians," Chang said in a Facebook post. Chang said Malaysia's laws and enforcement bodies are well-equipped to address this issue and hoped that no one would try to incite division or hatred among the people. "As we celebrate this noble month of independence, I urge all politicians to focus on fostering unity, not division," he added. – Bernama

‘Don't be a bully': Loke urges calm over flag errors, says leave enforcement to police
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has urged Malaysians not to resort to intimidation over mistakes in displaying the Jalur Gemilang. He said that recent controversies over incorrectly displayed flags have sparked heated debate and risk diverting attention from upcoming National Day celebrations. 'Therefore, there is no need for any party to 'fish in troubled waters', let alone threaten to protest in front of the business premises involved or to 'teach' people how to fly the flag,' he said in a Facebook post. 'Such actions are a form of bullying and will certainly be rejected by Malaysians,' he added. Loke said the Jalur Gemilang, as a symbol of national sovereignty, must be flown correctly and with full respect. 'That is why there are specific laws to regulate its display,' he said. He said that enforcement is the responsibility of the police, who should be given space to act fairly and in line with the principle of the Rule of Law. 'In conjunction with this upcoming National Day, let us strengthen our unity, respect our diversity, and work diligently to contribute towards the development and progress of the Malaysia we all love,' he added. Loke's remarks follow a recent incident in Penang where a hardware store owner was arrested for hoisting the Jalur Gemilang upside down, one of several flag-related cases reported this year. Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh has since announced plans to hold a protest at the store tomorrow, saying he and his supporters intend to 'teach' the owner how to properly display the national flag.
