75 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.75?
Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 75 since the inaugural season in 2002.
Texans players to wear No. 75
No. 75 currently belongs to offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson, who signed a one-year deal this offseason to compete for a starting job on the offensive line. Throughout the early stages of OTAs and minicamp, Tomlinson seems to be settled in as the starting left guard over Juice Scruggs and Jarrett Patterson.
While Tomlinson fizzled out after his time in San Francisco, his relationship with DeMeco Ryans from their time in the Bay could be a reason to believe he's in line for a promising season with new offesive line coach Cole Popovich. If he starts 17 games, that alone would qualify him as the best left guard in the Ryans' era since five players have started a game there since 2023.
Since Tomlinson hasn't taken a snap yet wearing the No. 75, he doesn't qualify for the G.O.A.T., but given a small list of quality names, check back in this time next year if all goes according to plan. There are only two names that probably would check off enough boxes to fit the criteria.
Best Player: Vince Wilfork
When you take over the internet for your overall, no-shirt, no socks, big boots look, you win the title of G.O.A.T. Wilfolk won't ever be considered a Texans' legend for his two seasons of on-field play after a Hall of Fame career with the New England Patriots, but Wilfork always be distinguished as the guy who became an icon on "Hard Knocks" during the 2015 season.
Helping the Texans win back-to-back AFC South titles under Bill O'Brien, Wilfork, who signed a two-year contract, started all 16 games in 2015 at nose tackle and recorded 22 tackles. The following year, he recorded 21 stops and three sacks.
Big Thunder won't be forgotten down at NRG Stadium for years to come.

Browns to name starting QB ahead of preseason finale amid battle in Cleveland
The quarterback battle in Cleveland is almost over. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski plans to name a starting quarterback for Week 1 ahead of the team's final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams next Saturday, the team announced on Sunday. It's unclear when that will be announced specifically, but Stefanski said the team is using this week as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "We will do more competitive periods than we would say in the regular season," Stefanski said, via the Browns. "So, we'll do plenty of Browns versus Browns in practice, as well as introducing carded periods where we'll be simulating the Rams' offense and defense. So big week for the football team." The Browns, who are fresh off a 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in their second preseason game, will officially open the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. Who will the Browns name their starting QB? Though the room has been hit with several injuries that have altered the competition, the quarterback battle in Cleveland has been among the most interesting across the league so far this preseason. It started out as a four-man race, though veteran Joe Flacco has taken the majority of first team reps in recent practices and has appeared to have separated himself from the pack. Flacco returned to the Browns this season after spending last year with the Indianapolis Colts. Kenny Pickett, who seemed to have the early advantage in the race, has been battling a hamstring injury for several weeks now and has still been limited in practices. He hasn't taken 11-on-11 reps since going down on July 26. The Browns also picked up two rookie quarterbacks in the NFL Draft earlier this year. They selected former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Colorado standout Shedeur Sanders in the fifth. Sanders started the team's preseason opener, but he went down with an oblique strain last week. He did not play in the Eagles' preseason game on Saturday. Gabriel, who missed the first game with a hamstring injury, started on Saturday. He went 13-of-18 for 143 yards with two turnovers in the win. Tyler Huntley came in to replace him to finish the game. Stefanski said he was hopeful that both Sanders and Pickett would be able to increase their productivity in practice this week amid their respective injuries, but it's unclear when either of them will be back to full strength. Gabriel is healthy again, but he wasn't outstanding on Saturday. That leaves Flacco, who has undoubtedly proven himself time and again throughout in his career. He's due to turn 41 in January, however, and is not a long-term solution in Cleveland by any means. Whether Stefanski opts to go with Flacco or one of the younger quarterbacks still remains to be seen. At least an answer there is imminent.

Texans gain back 206 fifth-round pick from earlier trade in Metchie deal
When the Houston Texans traded for defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, they knew the asking price would be something valuable. It ended up being a 2026 fifth-round pick and offensive lineman Kenyon Green. Now, that fifth-round pick is back in Houston. According to NFL Network's Tom Pellissero, the Texans are re-acquiring their 2026 fifth-round pick and tight end Harrison Bryant from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Surprisingly enough, that 2026 sixth-round pick was also acquired in the Gardner-Johnson trade. A second-round pick out of Alabama, Metchie reunites with 2020 national championship teammate DeVonta Smith and should compete for reps in the slot. He missed his entire rookie season while battling leukemia after the Texans selected him in a trade-up following his breakout season with the Crimson Tide in 2021. Entering a contract year, Metchie's totaled 40 career receptions for 412 yards and a touchdown in 29 games. This preseason, he was leading all Texans receivers with six catches for 53 yards. As for Bryant, the former John Mackey Award winner has totaled 98 career receptions for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns between his time with the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders. He signed a one-year contract this offseason with the Eagles and was expected to compete for the No. 3 tight end role, which should be the same for him in Houston now with Brevin Jordan out for the season with a lower-body injury. The Texans will wrap up the preseason on the road next Saturday at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. They will trim the roster down to 53 following Saturday's preseason finale ahead of Week 1's showdown against the Los Angeles Rams.

49ers Lose Bidding War to NFC Rival for Former Second-Round WR
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles made waves on Sunday when the two teams agreed to a trade for former second-round wide receiver John Metchie. The 24-year-old wideout has had a turbulent start to his NFL career after being selected with the 44th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Metchie missed his entire rookie year after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He was cleared to play the following year, but made a minimal impact with 16 receptions for 158 yards in 16 games. More NFL: 49ers Suffer Major Injury Blow to Key Offensive Starter Ahead of Week 1 The former Alabama star played a slightly bigger role in Houston's offense last year, logging 24 catches on 37 targets for 254 yards and a touchdown as the Texans' No. 4 WR behind Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Stefon Diggs. But after Houston traded for former 1,100-yard receiver Christian Kirk back in March and taking Iowa State star Jayden Higgins in the second round of the 2025 draft, Metchie became expendable in a suddenly crowded receiver room that also features Braxton Berrios, Quintez Cephus, Xavier Hutchinson. The Texans reportedly fielded a couple of offers for Metchie, with the team settling for a late-round pick swap and adding tight end depth behind Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover, Irv Smith Jr., and rookie Luke Lachey, according to ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime. More NFL: Colts Predicted to Replace Anthony Richardson With Heisman Trophy Frontrunner John Metchie III #8 of the Houston Texans runs the ball during an NFL wild-card playoff football game against the Cleveland Browns at NRG Stadium on January 13, 2024 in Houston, Texas. John Metchie III #8 of the Houston Texans runs the ball during an NFL wild-card playoff football game against the Cleveland Browns at NRG Stadium on January 13, 2024 in Houston, Texas."Per league sources the Texans are swapping day 3 picks with the Eagles and receiving tight end Harrison Bryant for WRs John Metchie," Bien-Aime reported. And while the Eagles already deep WR room, which features A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, and Johnny Wilson, got even better, Philadelphia also poached Metchie from another NFC rival, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. "Sources: The #49ers were the other team trying to trade for John Metchie III. But the #Eagles made a better offer," Schultz wrote on X. San Francisco's interest in adding another wide receiver should come as no surprise. More NFL: Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Receives New Major Injury Update The team's WR depth took a big hit after trading Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders this offseason. Star wideout Brandon Aiyuk is expect to be out until Week 6 of the regular season as he recovers from an ACL and MCL tear last season, Equanimeous St. Brown was placed on season-ending injured reserve nearly two weeks ago, Jauan Jennings has been dealing with a calf injury, and rookie fourth-round pick Jordan Watkins has been dealing with a high-ankle sprain. As things stand, the 49ers will likely head into Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks with Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, Russell Gage, Jacob Cowing, and Robbie Chosen as their top healthy wide receivers.
