Popular bakery teases launch of CALPOL Cookies and people can't wait to try them

Daily Mail27-05-2025

A cookie brand has teased the launch of a Calpol flavoured biscuit - to the delight of many fans.
Leeds-based premium cake company Get Baked announced its latest sweet treat - 'Caplol Cookies' - on its Instagram page this week, sending those nostalgic for the childhood medicine into a spin.
Set to be available from mid-June, the 'vanilla cookies with strawberry glaze' will be sold in a box that uses the pinks and purples of Calpol's packaging and incorporates the brand's distinctive logo.
The Instagram account, run by Get Baked founder and master baker Rich Myers, posted a 'mock up' of the box along with a picture of a large, round cookie finished with pink icing two days ago.
Since social media users taking the opportunity to reminisce about their childhood when they would 'steal the bottle of Calpol from the cupboard'.
Others, perhaps getting ahead of themselves, offered ideas for other medicine-inspired sweet treats, with one person writing: 'Banana antibiotics next please'.
In the caption to his post, Rich, who launched Get Baked back in 2011, joked: 'Pardon the pun, but I genuinely think these might end up being the most viral product we've ever launched'.
He added that it was '100 per cent real' after fans asked if it was a viral hoax.
Clearly expecting people to think the Calpol-inspired cookies were nothing more than a spoof, he acknowledged fans' doubts, writing: 'I think lots of people thought the Calpol Cookie wasn't a real thing - but it's a real thing.'
Rich, whose brand is best known for its towering, multilayered 'Bertha' cakes, provided some more context:
'We're still testing them - the first time we made them, they were overpowering, so we toned it down, but then we toned it down a bit too much, and there wasn't that f****** wallop of delicious Calpol flavour that I was going for.'
The picture of the box, he added, is a 'mock up of the sleeve' and a 'carbon copy of the real packaging.'
And, for those who were wondering if the company was sailing too close to the wind with its new product, he explained: 'You'll notice we've gone with Caplol instead of Calpol.
'Thought it was fun to have LOL [laugh out loud] in the title, it doesn't really have anything to do with not getting sued.'
To celebrate the launch of the Caplol Cookies, Rich offered one person the chance to win a box of six.
Having told fans to 'tag a mate' to be in with a chance of winning, the post amassed more than 6,000 comments, with people struggling to contain their excitement.
One person wrote: 'I don't know how you feel about Calpol but this is the best thing I've ever seen'.
Another shared an experience that many will be able to relate to: 'I used to steal the bottle of Calpol from the cupboard as a child!!'
Someone else appeared to have tagged their sibling, adding: 'Tagging you for all the times you drank my child's Calpol because you "liked the flavour".'
A fourth person seemed happy with the new product, writing: 'Calpol for the kids, Caplol for us'.
Some frustrated parents also appeared grateful for the new product, explaining: 'If we give baby girl these she might begin to realise how delicious Calpol is and stop fighting us on it'.
A sixth Instagram user alluded to the addictive quality of Calpol medicine, adding: 'These will be like crack'.
While a seventh person had a suggestion to enhance the product: 'These need a syringe of strawberry glaze in the box too'.

Temporary road closures in place for Download traffic

Temporary road closures have been put in place to try to prevent fans heading to Download festival from cutting through residential to campsites at Donington Park, near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, opened on Wednesday, ahead of the three-day event over the organisers said they had been working with highways bosses to try to avoid disruption, with up to 75,000 rock fans expected to attend to see acts including headliners Green Day, Sleep Token and County Council said it hoped the restrictions would reduce the impact of festival traffic on nearby residents. A spokesperson for the authority said large signs had been placed on some residential roads heavily used by festival traffic in the past."The aim is to keep the traffic on the main routes to Download and out of residential communities," they said."If we find people are not paying attention to the restrictions, stewards can cone them off while still allowing resident and business access." Passengers flying from East Midlands Airport (EMA) while the festival takes place have been urged to allow extra time to get to travel, with the roads nearby expected to be busier than EMA spokesperson said 466 flights were scheduled to arrive and depart during the festival and airlines should alert passengers to any "potential delays".Lauren Turner, head of airfield operations, said: "We start planning for the arrival of Download in October and have had plenty of meetings with the organisers to make sure the festival doesn't impact on our operations or our customers."Last year, the new arrangements for getting people to and from the festival site worked really well so with the same arrangements in place this year, we're hoping things will run smoothly again."But we advise our customers travelling to the airport while the festival is on to allow some extra time."She added it was illegal to fly drones near the airport, as in previous years drone flights associated with the festival had caused delays.

Love Island shake up as couple SPLITS, four islanders head to the Hideaway and bombshells cause chaos in villa

LOVE Island is in a big shake up, as a couple splits, four islanders head to the Hideaway and bombshells cause chaos in the villa. It's only t he third night, but it seems things are about to heat up even more on the summer series of Love Island. 6 6 6 But first, a split hits the villa as Ben and Toni fail to achieve a romantic spark, with him even saying she's 'given him the ick.' It all occurs after Sophie Lee leaves the villa, leading American bombshell Toni to say to the Islanders: 'Boys, it's your turn, just saying - I don't think you're gonna be safe.' Ben, who is coupled up with Toni after she stole him from Shakira, then says: 'Are you saying me in particular?' To which Toni replies: 'No it's about boys, not everything is about you.' Ben then storms off, which raises a lot of eyebrows, as Meg later tells him: 'That was a bit much…I don't get what she said that was really offensive?' Ben explains that he 'got the ick,' after Toni told him: 'Not everything is about you.' Toni ends up catching wind of the conversation, and questions Ben, asking: 'I've heard from people you said I'm giving you the ick?' As things cool off between Toni and Ben, it looks like he's still got his mind set on Shakira, as he pulls her for a chat in the 'no invite needed' Hideaway wanting to let her know what he's thinking. He ends up admitting to the brunette beauty that he likes her, but she says he 'needs training.' And they're not the only two Islanders who head to the Hideaway in the upcoming episode. Helena and Harry head to the Hideaway for a chat, making jokes about what the Hideaway has to offer. Helena tells him the rules of the private area saying: 'At night time you can sleep in the bed with someone you're not in a couple with.' Harry laughs: 'So there might be a bit of corridor creeping tonight.' Harry and Shakira later debrief about the chat, with the footballer admitting he and Helena like a flirt. He says: 'Yeah, she is…we flirt, I think you know and that's ok.' Shakira replies of Helena's flirting efforts: 'Fair play girl.' And then just to keep viewers on their toes even more, two new male bombshells enter the villa. Semi-pro footballer Shea Mannings and fitness influencer Remell Mullins will be seen on screen tonight, and they mean business. They greet the girls by the firepit, as the boys watch on from the terrace. And they girls fill them in on their current couples. Toni asks them: 'So what's your plan coming in here?' Remell teases: 'I'm not gonna say too much about myself because I've got to ease in where I'm at…' Alima jokes: 'We'll see!' Harry notices Remell taking a liking to Alima saying: 'He's on Alima!' They then invite the boys down to meet the new bombshells and it's time for the first game - dares in a box. But while the bombshells cause a stir, something else causes an even bigger one, as an unexpected couple head into the Hideaway later that evening. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX 6 6 6
