
BeMC starts cleanliness & sanitation drive, to cover all 42 wards

"Our aim is to make the drive a mass movement with the involvement of people," said Kalyani Sanghamitra, BeMC deputy commissioner (sanitation). Besides focusing on cleanliness, the civic body also conducted different competitions among school and college students, and members of women self-help groups (SHGs) based on the theme of 'Independence Day'.
"A 'jhoti' competition on Har Ghar Tiranga was held among the SHG members, where they showcased their artistic skills," she said.
The Har Ghar Swachhata campaign assumed significance, particularly in Berhampur, as its ranking in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 dropped to 75 and 64 at the national and state levels, respectively. On the other hand, 15 out of 18 urban local bodies (ULB) in Ganjam district received 'garbage-free city' (GFC) rating in the survey.

BeMC was adjudged the cleanest city in the state in the Swachh Survekshan in 2019 and 2020. Sanghamitra Dalei, mayor of BeMC, said they would try to retain their earlier position in the cleanliness survey in the coming years and sought the cooperation of the people.
The Gajapati administration has decided to distribute around 1 lakh national flags as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. "We have provided the flags to block development officers. They will distribute them through the SHG members," said Timan Bara, district project officer, Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM). The distribution will begin on Wednesday.
He said the flags were stitched by the members of at least 10 SHGs. "They will receive Rs 25 per flag," he added.

LMC spl drive to keep city clean on I-Day
Lucknow: Lucknow Municipal Corporation is conducting a special cleanliness and decoration drive across all 110 wards and eight zones ahead of Independence Day and Janmashtami festival. Zonal officers, sanitary staff and supervisors have been assigned ward-specific duties, focusing on road and market cleaning, drain maintenance, garbage collection and waste disposal. LMC teams will visit homes to promote cleanliness and encourage residents to hoist national flag as part of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Kashi women craft 4.76L national flags for I-Day
1 2 Varanasi: As the nation gears up to celebrate Independence Day on Aug 15, Kashi, known for its spiritual heritage, has intensified preparations for celebration of the day on a grand scale. In a significant drive under the Uttar Pradesh govt's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, more than 2,600 women from self-help groups (SHGs) are making over 4.76 lakh national flags to be delivered to houses ahead of Aug 15. The initiative, blending national service with women's empowerment, has engaged women from both rural and urban areas. Chief Development Officer Himanshu Nagpal said that around 2,000 women from over 400 SHGs associated with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) are making 2.25 lakh flags, earning an average of Rs 3,000-Rs4,000. In addition, 680 women from 68 SHGs linked to the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) are producing 2,51,500 flags. Radha of Ramdih village in Sevapuri block expressed pride in her contribution, saying, "When the tricolour waves on every house on Aug 15, it will carry the essence of our hard work and patriotism." Ranchi: As the 79th Independence Day is just around the corner, patriotic fervour gripped the streets, markets, and public spaces of Ranchi. Every corner of the city has been draped in vibrant shades of saffron, white, and green, while patriotic songs reverberate on roads. In the run-up to the celebrations on Friday, a group of youngsters, preparing to join the armed forces, took to the streets on Wednesday carrying a massive 300-ft-long tricolour, chanting the country's name at the pitch of their voices. The procession, which started at the Morabadi ground to the Albert Ekka Chowk, passed through prominent roads of the city, attracted attention and sparked spontaneous participation from passers-by chanting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. Many paused to take photographs and videos of the grand march. "We are training to join the armed forces and serve the nation for as long as we live.
