The development project will cover a 2.5 million square metre area in Jinawf. The first phase of the project will cover 604,000 square meters, featuring a resort with over 120 rooms and chalets.
ADFD's investment will also support infrastructure development, including roads and public utilities. Azzan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman, assured that the project will boost various important economic sectors in the Sultanate.
The project is central to the Oman Vision 2040 and is expected to be a huge success because of Salalah's popularity amongst locals and tourists during the Khareef season.

An Abu Dhabi investment project worth AED 764.5 million to strengthen tourism in Oman's Salalah has broken ground, with plans to construct a luxury resort and a marina, as the latter looks to diversify its economy. Spanning an area of 2.5 million square metres in Jinawf, Oman, the development aims to significantly enhance the city's tourism infrastructure and capacity through the construction of hospitality facilities and inch closer to the country's national goal of economic diversification. The first phase of the project spans approximately 604,000 square metres, including the construction of a luxury resort which comprises over 120 rooms and chalets, as well as the developments of a marina, the rehabilitation of coastal and beachfront areas, and the implementation of essential infrastructure works - including roads and public utilities. "This project is a testament to the deep-rooted strategic ties between the UAE and Oman," said Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). "The project also reflects our vision of economic diversification and our proactive approach to advancing sustainable development through meaningful regional partnerships and shared prosperity.' Oman: Construction of Al Ashkhara Waterfront Project begins
Jalan Bani Bu Ali – Construction of the Al Ashkhara Waterfront Project, a major coastal development aimed at boosting tourism and economic activity in the wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, South Sharqiyah started on Sunday. Laying the foundation stone, Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of South Sharqiyah, said the project is part of broader efforts to develop the governorate's natural assets in line with Oman Vision 2040. He noted that it is designed to enhance tourism infrastructure while supporting sustainable urban growth and private sector investment. The development will upgrade the Al Ashkhara coastline using a modern urban design that preserves the area's environmental character. The site will feature a mix of public and commercial facilities, including sea-facing restaurants and cafés, green spaces, pedestrian and cycling paths, and dedicated leisure areas. Covering 74,172sqm, the project includes a built-up area of 4,140sqm with design inspired by local architecture. Additional amenities will include watchtowers, rest areas, children's play zones, multi-use shaded structures, security units and public toilets. The development is expected to offer investment opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small businesses. Officials said the project will boost Al Ashkhara's potential as a tourism destination and help integrate infrastructure upgrades with wider economic objectives in the governorate.
